I watched him while he was at penn state. always was in the right spot and made a lot of plays. he should’ve been at least a second rounder imo but glad we could get him where we did

Agree about Brown, Winters and Graham. Also thought Bell had some good plays, Manning was incredible, and Jamison looked good, including as returner. What's interesting is how some guys look better in games than (non-tackle) practices, some due to the position they play, such as Brown and Manning. I'm sure there are others, but those flashed.

Any thoughts on Tayler Hawkins, Ilm Manning, and Conley? Had high grades for these three. Hawkins looked good in coverage and mixed it up in the trenches. Conley laid a block or two that caught my eye, in addition to his solid rec stats. Ill admit, I just heard the hype about Ilm Manning...

Ilm Manning was awesome. Hawkins I thought was solid and Conley did what he should. I still have a hard time seeing Conley make the team though. Against zone, he was fine. Man, didn't separate a ton.

Great stuff as always, carnal! So good to have actual football back! I have a question if you get the chance regarding firezone blitzing. In all the variations, is there one where If 5 players are on the LoS pre-snap but only send while the 5th drops back into coverage, is that still a firezone blitz even though only 4 actually rushed the passer? I think I know the answer but I'd rather ask someone who knows their stuff. Thank you in advance!

No, the fire-zone - I believe the name actually comes from a word that starts either F for "five". So it's a zone scheme with 5 rushers. It really is a 3 deep, 3 underneath zone-blitz. What you're talking about would be like how Seattle would play an "under" front on base downs with the SAM backer on the line and he would drop in zone for a pass. There's also a "creeper blitz" which brings an extra rusher, like a LB or safety, and drops a DE or DT into coverage so it functions like a blitz but only rushes 4.

So...Kinlaw hasn't been good....but kept on the roster? Latu is yet another 3rd pick that Kyle falls in love with but isn't doing anything much like Hurd didn't, Davis-Price, Trey Sermon, the jury still out on Ambry, let's not forget Beathard, Pettis ( whos was 2nd ), all guys that had an affair with Kyle.

I don't understand The Coaching strategy by having Trey practice and train with mostly the starters, but then have him pass to the 2nd and 3rd string receivers in the actual games? You see him developing and correcting mistakes throughout the Vegas game and instead of building on that, you toss him in behind the 3rd string line and have fun doing whatever he can. This is starting to look more like sabotage than progression of young QB.

I miss the days of jim tomsula when he ran our defense. We had a kick ass secondary other teams feared and were the number 2 ranking league defense. We have not had a secondary since, and it shows. Fred warner and Greenlaw end out holding the line and worked half to death with no help. This coordinator we have now don't play any zone like jim I don't even know what he's trying to do. This must be why he's been with so many teams and 1 year contracts.
