because the non-playoff teams need to get started asap on building their next season, and it would put guys like Peters at a disadvantage in the market if they're not available for another month or so
@@chrisdg100 I get that but if that’s the case you shouldn’t be able to interview any personnel from a playoff team until they’re out the postseason. Interview people from teams that aren’t in the playoffs then so on and so forth. It’s a long offseason. Not like a month is going to make a difference in the success of a bad team by hiring immediately
The problem is "Black Monday", the day after all the teams get eliminated and they fire their coaches. Plus, there's the impending NFL Draft. If you lock out the personnel on all the playoff teams so they don't get poached, there's a hiring disadvantage, because the losing teams can poach only from each other or from the college ranks. If you designate a hiring period that begins post-SB (February), those losing teams lose at least a month they could use to prepare for the draft and OTAs. Owners need to hire immediately after Black Monday.. These teams urgently need to staff up coaches who need to work, build playbooks, and prep for draft. So the NFL has put in a system of compensatory picks that are given to teams who lose personnel. I like comp picks. We hit the jackpot with one: #262 - Brock Purdy. A number of our current guys are comp picks, Jake Moody was a great use of a comp pick too.
We are so lucky as niners fans. So much of our success is due to ownership. When Jed made bad decisions for quite some time, he kept growing and learning. When you look at all the teams that never quite attain success
@@Rhaspun Jed York made one good decision: He hired Kyle and John Lynch and got out of the way. So he gets credit for staying out of the way. And that was new after Jed and Trent Baalke totally undermined and got rid of Jim Harbaugh.
For those wondering why a new GM would go from the Niners to Commanders: 1. This is a promotion. He’s currently an assistant and now gets to become The Guy. 2. There is no better place to start for a GM than a bad team. He can take them from worst to first, which is very fulfilling and also will be legendary. Going to a good team means a GM cannot make a positive difference. All they could do is maintain status quo or fail. That’s boring and risky and not worth it.
Exactly. It's a business, and you can move up by moving out. And we will get compensatory picks which are great for re-stocking talent. Brock Purdy and Jake Moody were comp picks. Brock may be the greatest comp pick ever.
Yep, his hiring doesn’t become official until they’re eliminated So he’s still a 49er for at least a couple of games and maybe as his final hurrah he’s putting the draft picks together
I don't think any amount of money would get me to join the commanders, he could have gotten a nice raise with a lot of teams. I wonder why he chose them
I’ll never understand why the nfl allows interviews and organizational moves right into playoffs. It makes no sense and can be a huge distraction. Look at the nba, they at least now postpone their awards till after the entire season.
I think you're right. It really seemed as though the team has been concentrating on Tariq's career development the last few years. He's even been with Peters during post draft press conferences the last few years.
As a 30-year Niners fan, we have to win it this year. I’m still sick over losing the Threepeat game vs the Giants. I can still see Joe getting destroyed by Marshall.
Overpaid Gorrapolo paid Armstead and Dee Ford over Buckner also overpaid Jerick McKinnon traded for Kinlaw let Dj Jones walk and Mosley could've atleast kept one of them but Mosley kinda made sense
Ok it happens but I don't think the timing of this is great, could he not have waited until after the playoffs. Washington wouldn't have missed out on much at all if he went in a few weeks time. I find his move at this time a bit sour personally so good riddance.
Ridiculous they are already picking at the niners staff before the season ends... these guys are vultures. Should be changed to not allow this to happen until team is done for the season! This guy is going from Cupertino to Washington DC... have fun on the east coast, be careful what you wish for.
Is Peter’s the reason or is it the head of College scouting Treyk Amand. (Spelling). I have heard he is a very good talent elevator. If True the niners won’t miss Peter’s much.
so what? THis is the guy who traded 3 1st round picks to get Trey Lance, he pushed to get Ambry Thomas aka The Bust. And I bet there are countless more draft busts he was responsible for
Snyder is not there anymore. The new owner is Josh Harris. He doesn't carry Snyder's baggage. We'll see if he is an improvement. I expect him to be that.
The 49ers do not have good management. Let's not forget the three first round picks lost and the fact Purdy bailed Lynch and Shanahan out from a terrible embarrassment of a year. Without his success, both Lynch and Shanahan would more than like be looking at the unemployment line because those three lost picks would have acted as a major deciding factor on whether to keep them or to fire them.
Bottom line for personal.... always good to find out and get rid of the trash that has no loyalty. The Niners will be better in the long run with someone else who has the organizations back! Good riddance. Let another Org wasted money and picks on the next Trey Lance.
Adam peters was reason we got good draft later in rounds and great udfas. He helped build this team along with john, kyle, martin mayhew and as well as adams espically our head of scout department. He helped John to become a good gm. he decided to stay here in bay to wait to become gm until better options there. its fine you don't peters but john like him and he did great a job building a team that is competive for years and top of our division. a lot success
The Jed York 49ers never come through in the brightest of lights since he took over.... so what is to be different this year they will probably lose again and get upset.... I would not be surprised at all...
Um... over John Lynch? Peters is a bay area native and 49er dude for life. I think he left so he could be the sole GM in a building organization. Not to mention they must have offered him a huge contract.
@@lesliemartin2376 John Lynch had the title of president of football operations added to his general manager role. Why not drop GM from John's title, give it to Peters to keep him in the building?
Lynch is an ex player with to much inside knowhow of football to let go, he gets the players and the fans plus his business savvy is second to none, so no we shouldn't get rid of him yet as he works so well with shanahan. Why break up a good management team.
@@mjlafavoritelike others have been saying this gives Adam a chance to shine on his own Eventuality Adam would’ve left somewhere down the road, you can’t keep someone from doing what they want to do otherwise they’ll end up regretting that person And like the other guy said they probably gave Adam a huge dollar contract which probably includes incentives based on the pick and maybe later a position at the top
I don't see it that way. Peters is a huge loss. But we still have one of the best head coach/GM combos in the league. And if there is anything this team is good at it's succession planning. It's going to be a change of the guard just like when Ran Carthon left. But the show will go on.
