My hands-on review with 4D Systems uTOLED-20, a 2" 160x120 transparent PM-OLED display. You can read the whole review here: www.oled-info.com/hands-4d-sys...
this would be great for smart/analog watches. something where when the screen is off you have a traditional watch display underneath but have a digital overlay for notifications from your phone. I'm patiently waiting for a company to do this to purchase a smart watch as I don't care to own any in their current forms...
that's exactly what I'm talking about!!!! I've had this idea in my head for some time now. Awesome that someone has implemented it!!! thanks for the heads up!
not at all... you cant benefit form transparent displays in it, its all about projection.. transparent oled is just a regular oled without black backing.
not exactly. if you understand AR as transparent display technology, you are incorrect. try googling how a dot sight works. and in case you say you dont want to, imagine you put a piece of flat transparent plastic next to a light. the light(in AR's case thr light from the display) partially reflects on a transparent reflector(prism/plate), so you see the display and at the same time the background world through that.
i was tryna find this kind of thing for ages, literally free real estate if u want to make your AR glasses. Thanks for the video so i know this actually already exists, and a long time ago too
Are similar screens available where you can see the content displayed on one side but not from the other side? As in it should just be transparent from the other side
I don't know about any forum but you could maybe experiment with lcd's you can make clear lcd for cheap if you remove the backlight and some layers. watch some videos.
Thank you for the review. I would like to see it working outside... You said it's useless, bu what if you display black pixels, is it still not visible?
Hi, Ron. I really didn't know one couldn't display black pixels, on OLED displays, thanks for the info. But the black "color" isn't that necessary, what I meant was if we put the darkest background, is it possible to see what's on display if it's against the light?
Hi, just wanted to ask - did you ever try displaying/loading images onto the display (if it's possible)? If so, what was the quality like? Thanks. ^___^
I'd love to have a color epaper display behind it... and a translucent, color, memory-in-pixel display in front of it I kinda hope that display combination becomes the standard for all raster screens Monday, March 27, 2023 CE, 20:34 EDT
I am completely new to this sort of thing. These would be perfect for augmented reality glasses. is it possible to connect this to a computer and use as a mini monitor?
It is possible to find samples at resellers, at least a small amount of samples, anyway. You can search here for other T-OLEDs: marketplace.oled-info.com
for what i see, 4d system discontinued the item.... the display is still available on aliexpress (just search for "oled transparent 2 inch") it comes with only the parallel port connector so i'm trying to find a compatibile controller board for reading simple animations from an sd or arduino.... neat!
I was just thinking that and how it would fit! There's a video of a guy who made one years ago and always been fascinated! Look up something like "real working scouter" or something along those lines 👍
