It was for a while. They wanted to be careful about stress on the frame. So I think the first limiters were set to 4.5 Gs, then 5.5 Gs, then 7 Gs, and now they are at 9 Gs. The F-35B will apparently never go beyond 7 Gs while the F-35C will be locked at 7.5 Gs.

Basic Wing loading without cant'ed tails, body and vortex lift. F-35A Empty weight: 28,999 lb (Year 2015). Wing area: 460 ft² Wing loading: 63.04 lbs/ sq feet. F-16C Block 52 Wing area: 300 ft² Empty weight: 18,900 lb Wing loading: 63 lbs/ sq feet. F-35A's empty weight is 1.54X scaled from F-16C. F-35A's wing area is 1.53X scaled from F-16C. F-35A's 43000 lbf thrust is 1.50X scaled from F-16C's 28600 lbf. There's a near straight 1.5X scaling between F16C to F-35A on basic wing loading, engine thrust and empty weight. F-35A's wing area is influenced by weight growth and F-16C's empty weight wing loading target.

bestamerica the F-35 can maintain momentum better in hard maneuvering and recover it quicker. It also has what amounts to a supercomputer reading the pilots inputs and controlling them accordingly to squeeze the maximum performance out of it for each maneuver in real time. Those really sharp direction changes it does are made possible by those computers. If an F-16 ever tried to pull a turn like the one at 1:13 and bled off almost all of it's airspeed and immediately went vertical, it would stall and drop like a brick. The Super Hornet can manage it but it does it at slower speeds and can't gain anywhere near the momentum the F-35 can. The F-35 is closer to the F-15 than the F-16 and F-18 are and that's saying something for a single engine aircraft. When you get into the electronic warfare suite, sensors, computers, weapons, stealth, LO, internal weapons carriage, internal fuel carriage matching a Super Hornet with 3 external tanks, you get an aircraft that is literally superior to anything flying save for perhaps the Raptor which was designed less for multi-role and more for air dominance. The F-35 is to the F-15, what the F-15 was to the F-4. The F-35 is to the F-16, what the F-16 was to the Saber and other light fighter jets and the F-35 is also to the Super Hornet, what the Super Hornet was to the F-14. The F-18 was a true multi-role fighter that revolutionized that role and the F-35 represents the next major leap forward in multi-role fighter technology. Whereas the F-15 and F-16 were afterthoughts for multi-role, the F-35, like the F-18 was designed from the ground up for all roles. The fact it took so long and still faces some issues shouldn't be a surprise. The best and most groundbreaking aircraft always come with a high cost. Price of staying ahead of your competition.

I think this is block 3F software which is 9G - I guarantee you he hit 9G because you can see the computers release the load on the horizontal stabilizer during (at least) one of these maneuvers to prevent over-stress. Makes me sick thinking about it haha. I hope they get Auto GCAS running on these quickly, because inevitably someone is going to black-out during training.

@@Ph33NIXx this is a hella late answer but generally since turbine engines have become extremely reliable, adding another one to the mix increases weight, points of failure, and maintenance costs while decreasing internal space and internal payload. Think of it this way, the Raptor is fairly large to accommodate its engines and internal bays but even then its best for air superiority because of it. Something like the F16 is gonna be lighter, less expensive overall, and more multirole geared

It's the result from high angle of attack or high alpha maneuvers.

You're just seeing advanced programming and flight control systems at work - not all aircraft are capable of maintaining flight in certain maneuvers, it requires very advanced flight control software and a LOT of power. If you have those two things, you can basically point the thing wherever you want. Sometimes it's no longer flying, sometimes it's a rocket, sometimes a rock, etc... but the computers allow the pilot to "point" the thing wherever they want. It has enough power to maneuver post-stall, so "flying" becomes less important, which is what you see in this demo. It's really incredible to watch the physics behind it. In one of those turning pull-up maneuvers you can see the flight controls actually relax the inputs to prevent overstress.

Hopely are your films better , try first to film an airshow and you will see with one camera that you have to make a choice close up or Smartphone view . An F-35 is plane no longer then 15m and 10 m wide the distance of the plane to the camera is between 100m and 2km height and 400m - 4km wide and the speed between 200km/h - 900km /h .Try it to film in close up and with a little luck you will catch it on your lens for a few seconds .
