Awesome video of my little piece of paradise! :) The Smiling Seahorse is the liveaboard most often cruising these exclusive dive sites! :) I'm so glad you liked it! your video editing is amazing.
So great to see all your outstanding work full of life and love for the ocean, i´m from a small Island in the caribbean (Old Providence and Sta Catalina) and i´m going to start do some underwater filmmaking, and i really like your work... Thanks a lot for sharing your talent with the world, hopefully next year i will start to post my own underwater films. As a beginner in filmmaking which tip could you give to me? Ones more thanks a lot.
i just bought a sony a7sII and a 16 35 mm 2.8 carl zeiss when i saw your vid, i really hesitate to buy underwater housing, i'll do a divemaster in october/november in bali ...
Vincent Lee Thank you Vincent. These palces can be visited on Liveaboard. We headed there from Lanong, border city btw Thai and Myanmar. Best spots are Black rock, where you can see lots of big stuff including giant oceanic mantaray. And the second best was Western rocky, gorgeous wall dive sites.
That is a Great video. I just purchased this camera to take underwater video and I am not getting the color you have. I was wondering what camera mode and picture profile were you using?
i am not Miru, but myself I do all my professional work with sony a7IIs and colorgrade with premiere. If you understand the basic settings like you need to light everything up 2 stops over with sony and use the s-log profile you get amazing results, even without external videolights, these cameras can handle much higher ISO-settings and main reason is light up your shadows correctly, otherwise you will get grains. One of the other reasons why i use sony is very good color temperature for underwater footage at greative style
Thanks for watching. There are pros and cons, but I'd like to recommend mk3. S2 has battery problem, 120fps slow-mo crop(more than super35), weakness in pictures. M3 has crop in 4K 30P, not in 24P.
Thank you Thomaz. No, I did not use red filter. I used Sea & Sea housing, and I adjusted color with manual WB, underwater automatic WB mode. And I did some color correction in FCPX
Thanks your reply! There is no great underwater video with this camera as yours :) I'm planning to buy this camera to do movies and photos.. Do you recommend it? Or DSRLs still been the best deal for underwater photographers/videographers? Thanks!!!!
Sorry for late reply. In movie, there are no benefits for using DSLR. Mirror is only an obstacle. In photography, I guess it depends. Each manufacturers show their specific color and WB, you have to choose - I still think mirrorless cameras already exceeded DSLR in movie.
Hi Just wondering if anyone from your trip got belly photos of the manta rays you encountered. It doesn't seem like it from your videos but I thought someone else might have. If so, would you mind uploading them to www.mantamatcher.org Marine Megafauna Foundation scientists are studying the manta population in the area and your citizen science photos would be a great help!
Miru hi!! I am a research assistant for MMF Marine Megafauna Foundation :) I’m guessing the footage was from Black Rock. Beautiful video you got by the way 😊 If anyone got a pic or video of the underside / belly of the manta, we can use it to identify the individuals and upload it to MantaMatcher.org
