Scenery mountain cabride by freight train through Bosnia along the Neretva river canyon and over the Bradina mountain pass. Colorfull autumn ride through scenic nature landscape of Herzegovina, part of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The ride starts at Mediterranean littoral near the Adriatic sea and extends to the high mountainous region between Mostar and Sarajevo.
It is the famous Sarajevo - Capljina - Ploce railway line. This ride starts near Capljina, at station Zitomislici and elevation of 25m. The most scenic parts stretch along the Neretva river edge. The video ends with a climb to the highest point on this line, at 756 meters above sea level. There is a constant alternation of tunnels and bridges along the whole ride. At this railway line there are 99 tunnels and over 65 bridges. Most of them are on the section between Mostar, Konjic and Bradina. Special ones are the longest tunnel "Jedrenje" (3239m long) and the highest bridge "Gazela" (70m high and 400m long).
Bradina mountain pass is a special railway mountain pass built in the form of numerous serpentines and curves. Climbing the railway along the slopes of the Bjelasnica mountain required the construction of numerous long rail tunnels and high bridges. It is also the steepest segment of this line. It section has 24‰ slope (maximum incline of 26daN/t). This makes this railway line famous and special. Ride through the forests of beautiful autumn colors is a particularly nice experience at this section.
This railway line connects cities of central Bosnia and Herzegovina with Adriatic sea coast. It is important for the goods transport for the needs of large industries in Bosnia. It is mainly represented by the transport of various coal ores and metallurgical products. Coal ores arrive by ships from all over the World in the Port of Ploce and from there are transported by trains to industries in the mainland of Bosnia. Existing cabview videos of this line were made from the passenger Talgo trains on the route Sarajevo - Capljina and vice versa. This video was made from one of the mentioned freight trains which makes it specific.
It is also special that the recording was made from one of the old ASEA electric locomotives. These are old Yugoslavia Railways, currently bosnian locomotives class 441. These locomotives are characterized by a special engine sound which is especially pronounced at high traction currents during ride with heavy freight trains. In this recording, it can be nicely heard during uphill ride on a mountain pass Bradina.
The recording was done from the train 48108 (Port of Ploce - Lukavac). Train weight was 1771t and 337m long. At station Bacevici a half of the train was decoupled and further ride was continued with 865t freight train. At the Bradina mountain pass, from Konjic to station Bradina, two locomotives were used to pull the train.
