I am pretty impressed with the graphical quality of the base Xbox. No doubt it's the worst of the 4, but It seems more than capable of putting out nice enough quality to have a fun gaming experience.
MoonNight it jumped low for a second whilst playing at Native 4K, it was clearly a bug and it ran poor on all systems, if you think a Ps Pro that is 40% LESS powerful than the Xbox One X will ever run the same when they are both programmed properly then you must belive the Switch can run the same as the Pro as well.
True but it sucks. Whenever you get off the road it repositions you and gives you penalty. Or if you try to shortcut the game does the same. Forza Horizon is much better.
@@Hopkins955 oh man. These games are different. Forza is an arcade racing game for fun and Dirt Rally 2.0 is a simulator which gives you an opportunity to feel yourself a true racing driver. Of course it will give you penalties for getting off the road. This is a rule of this game. Don't forget this game has a multiplayer and everything must be fair
I would have expected 1440p minimum for the Pro but 1080p only? May as well just have a base PS4. Hopefully Codemasters release a patch to bump the resolution and texture quality on the Pro.
@@Ben-Rogue I mean it comes across as they focused on the 'X', which is fair enough but then appear to have ran out of time to do anything for the Pro. Even 1440p would be a nice step up from 1080p
Pro looks miles ahead of PS4 and XB1. If the settings were kept the same on the Pro as base PS4 then 1440p should be easy. Question is do you want a better looking game or the same looking game at a higher rez?
@@kainthetrollreaver9270 I want resolution and performance over quality for a racing game... since the base PS4 and Pro are the same here, then yeah, first bump resolution as far as possible while keeping it to 60 fps...
Playing Dirt Rally 2.0 on Xbox One X is striking after playing Dirt 4. 4K and 60fps is a real advantage. If CodeMaster can add detail to the wheel FFB and provide more routes to drive, they will have a true classic.
@@arthurlisboa6723 That's awesome for the few people who actually own a One X. You also only get to cheer for the X at least another 18 months until next gen comes out. Then the X will be abandon 🤷♂️
Metro Exodus: 1440p on PS4 Pro 4k on Xbox one X. I have never been so satisfied with a console as the Xbox one X... Last time probably was with the SNES...
@@markuschief4472 that's what the x was made for. When it's utilises its full potential, it's truly something impressive. Rd2 is the best example of this in my personal opinion.
What do you mean is tge only way to play? What's wrong with the Ps4 Pro? I mean the Xbox One x may have slightly better power but that's because it came out later.
@@bearwynn of course there is a light improvement I have both PS4 and PS4 Pro and when playing heavy games like BF5 I can notice a bit sharper graphics and better frame rate.
Markus Chief Yes he and PS4 lead designer both said similar, but for some strange reason they never mentioned it again when the Xbox One X specs were released.
rina c Because it was early this gen when there was no PS4PRO/XB1X in sight so Sony was just taking advantage of the power advantage the PS4 had over the XB1 in their marketing, I hope that MS goes crazy next gen with the specs of their new console and does the same thing to Sony 😂
@@franzusgutlus54 Even though i'm an X user I did think this was strange at first, but then i wondered why there was a 1080/60 mode for the X, it must be because there are moments latter in the game that even push the X a little far. Stable framerates are the most important in a racing game.
@@rdothl5 Nobody asked. Omg you ps fanboys. As a PC gamer i will never understand why you guys don't comprehend the difference between perfomance and list of games. They are two different things.
Crazy how the industry shit on Xbox all the time but to dish out a rally game like this at native 4k at 60frames? Its very close to PC gaming in your living room. Even without the 1st party games, the 3rd party alone make this system stand out big time.
because having good graphics doesn't make up for being a shit console with no exclusives, a tiny online player base and literally no reason to own it when it has PC cross buy
@@azzaprime7257 - the one has almost no exclusives at this point, it just lost its best ( MCC ) the player base is 3x smaller than ps4 the Console features itself are ps3 era seriously no cross share?
@@ThreeDaysOfDan so in other words you wasted everyones time. For example how does a game made 4 years ago mean anything today? 2nd - Lost an exclusive? You know you can still play it on Xbox right. 3rd - Steam lacks any major AAA exclusives and Steam drawfs PS4. 4th - 3rd party games play better on the X, Offers play anywhere, cross play with Switch, better online infrastructure, full backwards compatibility and better controller options and customizations.. You say Xbox is PS3 standards of features yet PS4 doesnt even offer BC.. a 6th gen feature. Your post was bias and facepalm worthy.
@@THEREALKEMMZ I feel like using Google is easier than asking in the fucking RU-vid comment section of all places. You're already on the internet, so use it. Your listening comprehension must be pretty bad if you didn't hear him talk about the pc settings menu and actually showed it in the video to compare to what the consoles are using settings-wise. 7:38
Now I’m a pc guy and this comment section is stupid. I have this game on pc and it looks amazing, instead of praising you box of choice you should be asking your self why isn’t the PS4 pro version running higher than 1080p it’s 2x4 the power of the vanilla PS4. If the standard ps4 is locked 1080 60 with zero drops then the pro should be higher than that. Instead of being a loser and comparing your box why are we not ask codemaster wtf?
You were a rushed mistake or a mistake tbh. You hating on the console even tho the devs chose to stick it at 1080p even though the ps4 pro can do way more than 1080p in this game.
@@rinaa6865 , it's obviously more than just the teraflops. X1X is 100-125% better in most games. Several are even 300% better like Dirt 2, Dead or alive 6, Jumpforce etc.
OK* at first they said the PS4 Pro is a 4K machine, but it was more a 1440p machine and now it's only 1080p? It's now the second game where it runs better at 1080p! First Anthem and now Dirt Rally 2.0. Is the Pro really that weak? No hate, but that's what I see lately.
So after years of games being at 1440p and above, 2 games coming in at 1080p makes you think it's not a high resolution system? Obvious troll is obvious.
@@jaxsgameplayvideos What part of my comment indicates my emotional state? Furthermore when did I call you a fanboy? Unless you're calling me a fanboy in which case I'll ask again, what part of my comment brought you to that conclusion?
@@BenjerminGaye nope since the pro came out it was always better to play it on a 1080 TV, 1440 doesn't look good on a 4k tv and even the pro doesn't support 1440 output which the majority of its games are at, its only fanboys saying other wise

P.S. InB4 "Fanboy" response: I own both.
While I do love 4K, I still think there can be a very good 1080p image with some decent AA. I don't see why people just shit on something when it's below 4K when you can still get a good image with a lower resolution.
@Xtrash Done lol if he wanted to he could play this game the way all racing games will be played in the future, in VR. Meanwhile xbox has no VR because it's too weak not to mention poor sales means it's not even an option. Bad times indeed!
Van Dammage Remind us all again at what settings do you play Forza Horion 4? 1080p60 was it? But why not play it on your imaginary gtx1080, you know the one you lied about owning the day the God of War review came out? 🤔
You are the biggest fanboy i ever seen in a youtube video. I bet you work at microsoft 😂, for me i play on every console and i love it, just play the game and stfu dude.
I'm seeing a lot of People making themselves look stupid with comments saying "The PS4 Pro can only run this Game at 1080p" cause if you pay attention to the Video the Game runs at a locked 60FPS at 1080p on the Standard PS4 and with the Pro having double the GPU Power it should easily be able to run at 1440p/60FPS. So it's not the Hardware to blame on the Pro but the Developers, which they can easily fix with a future Update.
As an owner of a Pro, I hope it is that simple, but I have a gut feeling it is something else. While the Pro does indeed enjoy 2x the GPU power, it does not unfortunately have anywhere near 2x the bandwidth of base PS4. The Xbox One X, interestingly nearly does.
Xbox 360 had much better exclusives than ps3 are u trying to tell me killzone was better than halo 3 or 10 hour sp game uncharted was better than gears of war 2?
You get some screen tearing when in the night/using headlights and busy sections with alot of people on track side can cause a little judder, no doubt this is why they have a performance mode. Love the game, it's sooooo good
Great vid. Game looks beautiful and holds 60fps. I was expecting significant drops when playing rallycross with the AI kicking up mud in the rain. Weird that the PS4 doesn't even have an adaptive resolution. For a game like this i could live with it though.
I have a hypothesis about the reflections which could explain the low res reflections on base consoles and the use of ssr in replays on the premium ones. I suspect a dynamic cube map is used during gameplay, centred on the player car. This is something we see in many racing games. Since, during gameplay, the player car is the most obvious source of reflections, using it as the viewpoint from which to render reflections makes for an acceptable approximation. Now... this wouldn’t work for replays during which the camera is nowhere near the player car and being able to have a really good look at the reflective surfaces would make, even camera centred cube maps not hold up. So, for these shots, I suspect ssr was chosen because it produces more correct looking reflections. As for no ssr in gameplay or at all on base consoles. I suspect performance considerations lead to those decisions.
@@ArjunVerma-wx7tf for anyone who is not interested in those games, PS4 is irrelevant. From 90m of PS4 owners, 80m of those only play FIFA and COD. Only 10m bought GOW.
Arjun Verma Two OLD single player only games that you would of finished (If you actually bought them) long long ago. The only game on ps4 I would have is Nier Automata, Hang on !!! I forgot it is now on Xbox and the Xbox X is the best console version
When Dirt 4 hit shelvesit used a similar setup across PS4, Xbox One and PS4 Pro - Xbox One X wasn't available at the time. I suspect that they went once again with 1080p across the board when it came to porting this one, only to find out that they Xbox One X was severely underutilized, and therefore added a 4k mode last minute. I am also quite sure that with a bit of persuasion, they could have pushed a larger pixel count on PS4 Pro, but it seems like they were content with having lots of headroom at 1080p and just didn't bother.
Wouldn't see my vids as I'm just a small time nobody but my clips are 4k and usually good quality, smashing the game on X and loving it. Got some good footage up on my channel
Thanks Tom. Looks to me like it’s a bug with the Pro’s settings. It should have the same toggle as X1X to choose between resolution modes. It’s not going to hand in a DRS range as high as X1X but 1800>1440p sounds about right. Pro owners can expect a patch I’m sure.
Playing on the X here, but was gobsmacked to see the PS4 Pro & stock PS4 are virtually the same - WTF Codemasters? I hope a patch is released for you guys. Then again, I was waiting for an X enhanced upgrade to the original Dirt Rally, which never came.
There will be crossgen games. The PS5 won't be that much more pwoerful than PS4 Pro. Same situation with Xbone X and Xbox Two. The switch will suffer the same fate too, when PS5 and XB2 comes out, they will make a New Switch that'll have exclusive games just like the DSi or New 3DS.
@@treybyrd3332I believe the WRX has that option and to be honest the STI isn't worth the 8,000-10,000 more than the WRX actually the WRX has less turbo lag and the same 0-60 times with a newer motor check some of those out they won't disappoint.
This makes me pause for about a fiftieth of a second before buying the game and playing it on my Pro; this seems like the best rally game of the 8th generation
Wasn't Sony's Yoshida that said 1080p makes you better gamer? That would mean that 4k makes you a flawless gamer. The 1X can't be beat. Well at least until the Anaconda's release.
Another great video digital foundry, got a question for you, Ive had an lg49inch tv and the xbox one s for a couple of years now and gotten used to what both of there capabilities are when you put them under load with the xbox one s, So after the Xbox one X has been out for a while now with back compact games getting 4k support and hdr support etc, Would you say its a good time to upgrade to the x or stick with the s ? If you want the best performance and quality in high end games ? Because ive noticed ive had a couple of glitches and stutters while playing like fifa etc so thought i would ask the question to you ? Keep up the great reviews
I'm not Digital Foundry, but if you want an opinion, buy the Xbox One X if you have the disposable cash and it is not an issue, nothing like having another system for the collection ;). Otherwise I would hold on to the S as the next round of systems should hit next year, and should all be backward compatible with this generation of games. I to am running an S on a 4K tv and most of the time I'm very pleased with the results, to the point where I'm waiting for the next system. Even going from PS4 Pro to Xbox S in the same gaming session, is not incredibly jarring to me, maybe my old eyes are to blame. I just think it is to late in this generation for a mid generation refresh that is around $400 US dollars, unless you can afford it easily.
@@davidwooten7212 Thats a fair point it wouldn't be for a collection item although be great to have, but am talking more from a performance stand point, and like ive said before for games like fifa if you have loads and loads of players on the shortlist like i do, then it takes a while to load up the next phase if you like, so its getting frustrating, and had a couple of freezes there in the past, but still happy on how it performs at the moment, so may just wait on then till E3 this year at least
Stahl Seuche you should see the PS4 fanboys when they get a "win" on Digital Foundry it's soooo much worse because they're on a losing streak vs the X.
