One of the best compilations of heavy departures I've ever shot! ATL is one of my new favorite airports for spotting. Hope you all enjoy the video! Filmed March 2, 2019 Camera: Sony AX33 Follow me on Instagram! / leppaviation
For clarification, (because I'm seeing a lot of comments about it) this was filmed on March 2nd (which it says in the description), which was before the 737 MAX was grounded. That's why they are still flying in this video.
Just wondering where exactly you're filming at ATL. Obviously it's runway 9/27 so are you in the parking deck? I've heard that it's a great place but the police quickly show up to hassle you if you have a camera. Thanks!!
@@michaelcollins6387 yep, this was from the south parking deck. And no, I actually didn't have a single problem with police! I was there all day and was never bothered. Maybe I got lucky..
@@LeppAviation That's awesome! I'm going to go down there and try it then. Unfortunately, ATL has few decent places to watch anymore. There was a great place years ago on Loop rd at the approach end of 27 but the trees have grown too tall.
jr132 Captain: Gear Down First Officer: *grabs handle....pauses....* Gear already down Captain: ooohhhhhhh So THAT’S why we burned more fuel than usual...
I was on a flight once where you could tell (feel and hear) the gear was down after takeoff for quite a while. Captain finally came on and said they had a temp sensor overheat on one of the wheels and couldn’t put the gear up. We flew like that for 10-12 minutes then you could hear the gear go up. No further issues (other than costing them extra fuel).
I don't think it had the range. We once hard broke a C-17 at Ramstein and they had to fly in a special Boeing crew (non-military) and they flew the plane stateside (Kelly AFB TX, I think) with the gear down and had to do seven enroute A/Rs. C-17s westbound were notoriously short-legged to begin with. We'd launch from ETAR empty for CHS and always had to make a gas-n-go at DOV or WRI.
I absolutely love the plane videos where the guys take the time to actually edit or whatever they do, the destinations or from where the planes can from on the screen.👌👍
I am afraid of flying (Yes, I Know the safety stats) but watch these vids to alleviate my fears, really appreciate listing the type of aircraft, the age of said airplane and the destination. Great Job!
Eric Lindsey it’s ok man, there’s about 102,000 planes flying over our heads everyday, crazy to think, I understand you’re scared but there’s a better chance of you getting in a car accident on the way to the airport(even if it’s a 10 min car ride) then getting in a plane crash, hopefully that helps a little bit I understand.
Whether it’s Atlanta, Detroit, or wherever, I absolutely LOVE watching takeoffs from this angle! Please give us more. My favorite shot is when they are up off the ground, with their gear already up (or mostly up) before they pass the camera line. That way you catch a glimpse of them in the configuration in which they are really meant to be; sleek, streamlined, and haulin’ ass.😉
Lived in College Park, out near Hartsfield. Loved watching the big DC-10s and L1011s. I remember when the Delta Sign used to say Fly Delta's Big Jets. That was around 40 years ago.
I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for all of the care and creativity that you put into them. Just wondering, did the A 340 ever retract its gear after takeoff?
I'm old now, but I remember plane watching at ATL back in the mid-to-late 1960s up into the early 1970s.....watching Delta, Eastern and National DC-8s, Eastern 720s, DL Convair 880s, Pan American World Airways 707s and DC-8s, Northwest and Delta DC-10s, Delta and Eastern L-1011s, Delta 747s and even United's Caravelle jets along with all the various 727s, DC-9s and 737-100 & 200s from TWA, United, Southern, Braniff Int'l. As late as 1967, Constellations from Delta and DC-7s, DC-6s, Martin 404s, Convair 540s....all the propairliners, could be seen then....now THAT was a joyous sight to watch all these back in those days!!
A 16:00 minute video that Captain Joe did with Kennedy Steve. Steve mentions that very thing, very funny. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F1cKfZatlQ4.html
Somebody mentioned something I had forgotten about. The gear is sometimes left down to cool the brakes and tires after long taxiing and braking operations were needed to get to the runway. A blown tire or blazing hot brakes is not something you want in the enclosed space of a gear well. One interesting issue is that sometimes idle thrust is so powerful compared to the friction working against the aircraft's forward movement that the pilots ride the brakes a lot as they taxi to the runway. That may send brake and tire temperatures into an unacceptable range for immediate enclosure by the gear doors.
A lot of their fleet is aging, but there are also plenty of brand new aircraft in their fleet. 737-900s, A321s, A350s, A220s, A330neos, and the incoming A321neo. I’d say about half, if not more, of Delta’s fleet is under 6 years old.
You know what's ironic about it? American Airlines has the newest fleet and the oldest cabins. When you step into a 25 year old Delta 757, you'd think it was a new plane looking at the seats and video screens. And one nice thing about an old fleet is you know the carrier will put more effort into maintaining them knowing they're going to be using them longer.
Last time I flew on a plane I flew out of Atlanta to Dallas and then to Tulsa. I remember standing in the terminal in Atlanta and counting the seconds between a plane landing and another appearing for a landing. All in all, it averaged about ten seconds. Certainly earns its claim as one of the busiest airports in the world.
Excellent camera work, keeping the plane in frame after it's airborne is harder than it looks! I live in ATL, but with 5 runways, and no decent filming locations at the end of the runway, I've never attempted shooting there.
My friend was on that flight at 10:41. And btw ,you can hear cars going by and other jet engines idling over the MD-88s taking off ,which proves that aren’t so god damn loud like some people say they are. They are just a little louder than a CFM-56 powered 737 ,and can be heard a little longer after take off.
I live in Gainesville and alot of the big boys fly right over me if the wind is right at around 12k feet.. definitely a good hobby to be into with such a variety in aircraft size, type and destination! (A-340/80 and 747) still make me run outside like a helicopter when I was little 😂 Awesome video bud keep it up!
Geez the PM certainly didn't waste any time getting the gear up at 6:51 lol nice video. Also with the gear on the Virgin A346 could be that the brakes were hot so they needed to cool them for a bit. That sometimes happens.
Back at AUS I'd watch in amazement as Southwest would turn a 737-300/500 in 20 minutes. They went to longer block times after the acquisition of Air Tran. They pretty much run ground times like any legacy airline now. Southwest is a shadow of what it used to be, but still preferable to the "Evil Empire Triad" of Delta, American, and United.
I haven't even seen a MD-80 series aircraft for over 10 years, let alone flown in one! I mainly fly in Europe and Asia. It's all 737, A320, A330, 777, 787 & A380.
It's so beautiful to hear. And the 787 is just so unbelievably quiet as it takes off. Boeing really did an amazing job with the look of the 787 too. It is arguably the most distinguished looking airliner in the skies today.
I love this vantage point of the planes as they are taking off. Toooo much runway action, like in a lot of youtube channels that feature plane spotting, is not a good thing. You cut to the chase, and show the planes just as they are taking off, as well as showing them speed off into the distance. It really is awesome! The audio is very clear, to hear the mesmerizingly beautiful roar of the engines sending the planes into the sky!! Thank you for your better way of showing takeoffs!!!! I will subscribe to your channel for sure!!
Hey, I’m from ATL and I’m gonna get my license soon so I can drive to the airport, what time of day is best to catch the good planes (heavies, max [when they’re ungrounded] 747s especially). And is there a good time in the morning because with the sun being in the West in the afternoons, the pics can get real backlit real fast. Thanks man!
May I SAY that was SUPER NICE!! MORE PLEASE, LOVE THAT (CLOSE UP) AT 15:10 BRITISH AIRWAYS, 777? NICE, THEIRS SURE ALOTA, 767'S AND 777'S, AND A FEW 747'S👍👍 YOU SURE MADE MY DAY!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH ME ❤️👍
This video is absolutely awesome! Does this airport have a public observation area where the general public can park and watch departures and arrivals up close?
The crews use to do that to cool off the tires when the aircraft spends too much time taxiing, then after a while in the air they retract the landing gear
Wow... just 1 year ago and there is lots of aircrafts that will not fly again (don’t fly but will come back or not come back) like the MD-80, Delta 777, 737 Max which is coming back. But there is lots of them!
Hey man ,superb video!!Boeing 747 400 virgin ????I am so happy to see it flying ,because i was thinking that there are no more 747 400 i the air !!Which company still flyes 747 400 beside virgin ???I mean passenger version!!
I appreciate it! There are still hundreds of 747-400s flying today. Airlines like Virgin, Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways, and Qantas still fly them. And there are many more
Generally it means that one of the brakes aren’t working, so they have to keep the gear down for 2 minutes in order for the gyroscopic effect from the spinning wheel to lessen. They have brake fans to cool them off.
I’m curious as to the editing of this video... the last one was a delta airbus aircraft? How were there so few of them in the video... Airbus are taking over the fleet! (Not that I’m complaining; If it ain’t Boeing, I ain’t going) Also, no MD-90’s, 737-800’s, 737-500’s, 757’s of any variant?
There's a Melbourne in Florida then is there? That might cause confusion for some. A bit like how Hollywood International Airport isn't actually in California, but is in Fort Lauderdale.
Hi, and thanks for the great video! Would you please tell me where you shot this footage from? Is it from the parking garage, and if so, which one? I'm coming here soon and would love to see this action from this viewing area. I'm just a girl that loves watching planes! thanks
LivingInMyPurpleWorld Thanks for watching! This was filmed at the South parking garage on the west side of the airport. Easily accessible from baggage claim outside Concourse T
@@LeppAviation Hi Again! I'm giving a shot of spotting this wknd. I really need to know, can I get to this parking lot you've mentioned by car, or do I need to walk to it? Thank you if you could lmk!! Much thanks
