The Raggaschlucht is a gorge in the Austrian state of Carinthia, near the town of Flattach. At 800 metres, Raggaschlucht is one of Austria's shorter gorges. You can visit the gorge since 1882. The wooden scaffolds, bridges and stairs make it possible to walk along the gorge. Sometimes the gorge is so narrow you can barely see the sky!
Accessible since 1882
The Raggaschlucht is located in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The gorge was made accessible as early as 1882 and since 1978 it has been a natural monument. Thanks to the wooden scaffolding you can take a walk along the gorge. You can park your car at a parking lot in the village of Flattach (part of Schmelzhütten) and from there it is only a short walk to the gorge (10 minutes).
1.5 hour circular walk
The walk through the gorge has about 200 vertical meters. Along the way you will come across several information points where you will learn about the origin of this Schlucht. It is very spectacular to watch the Raggabach make its way through the gorge. Once at the top you can return to the starting point via a forest path, the total walking time is approximately 1.5 hours. A visit to the Raggaschlucht impresses young and old!
