This is another special episode that I've been waiting to post for a long time. My first passenger!
Please note, my videos are heavily edited. As such, checks and radio calls will be regularly omitted. What you see isn’t always how it occurred and some scenarios may be taken out of context.

Enjoyed that Matt, are you sure Sarah isn't a secret pilot she seemed to take it all in her stride and was even double checking you sometimes 😅 It's a right of passage as a pilot, taking the 'uvver half' for the first time. Good job.

Thank you for sharing. I got my NPPL from the UK. I now live in the USA and have my PPL and IFR rating. I remember how "unclear" the weather in the UK can be. Not sure if you were flying in IMC though. Does not look like there is more than 2 miles visibility. Take care mate. Stay safe, especially since you have a new baby! (Congratulations!)

@@flyingwithmatt112 Yes - well before your time, and a bit before mine. Just started my flexwing training (aged 62) and am finding your videos useful, even though you are 3-axis. All going OK but I am c**p at landing, though I have walked away from all of them so far! My instructor also has a Eurostar; it's a lovely aircraft which gets you really close to the action, as all your passengers have discovered. Fly safe!

IFR navigation? I Follow Roads. 😁 It's amazing how quickly power for altitude, attitude for speed ceases to seem counter intuitive.

Nice little video, the wx was a a bit claggy for a first flight, fun though, sense of achievement sharing the hobby/sport✌️👍😊💜 Your better half took to it like a duck to water💜👍✌️😊 Those DC clamp headsets really do affect some people's heads/gives a headache, took me awhile to work out why I was getting headaches (but then I've a funny shaped head that's been in the wars😳😳🙄😉😄👍). Youll have to treat her to an ANR/ANC set with lighter clamp force.

Great video Matt. Congratulations on the first pax, and the baby. Did you video the solo xcountry? Looking forward to it if you did. I’m getting close to the xcountries as soon as the weather allows. Solo hours are in. Passed airlaw. Just Gst , 4 exams, and the cross country’s. 😕. Your videos help. Thanks for posting them. 👍

Hi Bob, many thanks for the kind words. Unfortunately I didn’t. I ended up doing a 1 mega Nav 4 hour flight for the QXC and the cameras just weren’t upto it. I went from Sherburn upto Castle Howard, Bridlington, landed and Beverley, then down to Lincolnshire and landed at Sturgate. Then home. Was a great trip out. Good luck and all the best 👍

Great video, I love seeing the reaction of passengers up for the first time, I think the smile on my face was as big as if it were me going up. How do you find the Akaso camera? I have one but after 30 minutes of recording it has an issue saying the memory card needs formatting.

Hi thanks for the comments. It’s great isn’t it. Re the AKASO, I’m going to replace them with a pair of GoPros when I can get round to it. I find them brilliant for a sub £100 camera. But I’m having major audio/visual sync issues so after a few minutes, the video loses a few frames and the lip sync is off. I’m having to spend hours in the editing software to match it up every few minutes of the video 😩

Eyup from Sheffield Matt! Thanks for a good video and well flown-too! I've been thinking about getting back into flying lessons after a lengthy lay-off. I'm interested in flying the EV97. It looks a lot more fun than endless tootling about in a C150/152 which is what I was used to. How does it compare to other aircraft you've flown? :)

Go for it! A lot of ‘GA boys’ are switching to microlight. A fraction of the running costs, more performance in some situations and more modern too. EV97 is a nice aircraft but feels a bit skittish in bumpy air. Very easy to fly though.

Hey Matt, great video wasn’t the best of weather 😆. What cameras and microphones are you using? I’ve got the hero 8 and can’t find the atc cable that’s compatible with it. I’ll look out for you at Barton.

Hi Paul, thanks! I use 2 x AKASO V50x. They are good ‘cheap’ cameras. For audio, I use an external sound recorder. A Sony one, with cables straight into the intercom.

I passed in about 40 hours. With breaks due to covid. 40 x £130 a lesson (that’s what I was paying) is £5200. Then you need ground school, and the radio licence. If you budget £6k you’ll definitely have enough 👍

Brilliant video sir. Id love to get my license but so many questions unanswered. The cost for lessons? The rough time it takes to complete? Cost of the plane and costs of running? If you could shed some light that would be amazing.

Thanks! Lessons average about £130 per hour. You need to have a minimum of 25 hours but realistically is more like 40 hours. You could pass in a few months if you have lessons every week or every other week. It took me around 1.5 years of lessons here and there. You can buy a ‘microlight’ for a little as £4K, but for something nice you need a minimum of £25k-£40k. I hire per hour at a flying club. That’s £40/month and £80 per flying hour all in. Hope that helps.
