@@joeg4609 Well, they don't have any good exclusive FPS games at all really, Killzone sucks. People still play all of the Halo games online, noone gives a damn about Killzone.
They made the multiplayer amazing and the campaign story is horrible.. after halo 3 and bungie left they turned the focus to perfecting the multiplayer.. the story (which was just as important to the franchise) went to shit
+D Will True, but I dont think Bungie shuld take back Halo since they hav kind of went to shit, when they began the Destiny series, but thts just my opinion.
+Vincent Matlock not really made it "pointless", they just pushed it off the epilogue of 4s main villain in a comic, so I can understand if ppl were confused. 343s story requires u to read the books and comics of the entire series for the conclusions and character developments of the characters u see in the game. Which I find it a bit odd since not many ppl dont want to get tht involved with the lore and want it to b told for them when playing.
So much salt and ignorance here. It's a great thing that Microsoft has finally released something really powerful on the console market. More competition means companies want to please their consumers. Win-win for everybody.
if microsoft had originally released the xbox one with the specs the one x has now back in 2013 (which first of all the hardware didn't even exist or if it did it was insanely expensive), the console would probably cost $1000 or more. the fact that the one x costs $500 with the performance it has is actually mind blowing. I'm at heart a PC gamer, and I would find it very hard, maybe even not possible, to build a PC that could equal the performance of the One x for $500. They aren't milking them, the hardware in the gaming market has been evolving exponentially and both Microsoft and Sony decided to take advantage of the newer more powerful hardware available to them. They aren't forcing anyone to get these new consoles, any new game coming out works just the same on old hardware as newer hardware.
@OcelotSensei, you will think twice once you realize how much storage space the 4K games will gobble up your hard drive. It's not a win win when you consider your wallet.
Damn, this really makes me want this console. I have a high end PC and even that can't play games at 4k60. 343 did an amazing job here and it demands respect.
I'll gush about this game and ill tell anyone to buy it if you don't already own it as I loved Halo but the game isn't really one that is "technically demanding" I mean it ran 60fos on xbox1 base Hardware your PC would least match the 1x performance here. Keep in mind the CPU/gpu that's inside the xbox1x. Microsoft stated they were aiming to make a mid range PC in a console so of your machine ishigh end yes you course could do this. Kudos to team that made halo5 and this update though
K. K!!! lol...i have a high end pc...and run BF1... assasins creed .... whatever i want in 4k at around 80 fps in ultra settings and can tell you 4k is the way to go. 1080p is old news
Ryan Browning at the moment there aren’t really any 4K monitors that go over 60hz and will be very expensive. Until they are affordable I would much rather play at 1440p in a 144hz monitor.
Halo 5 has always been 60 FPS on Xbox One (old model) along with Titanfall 2 hasn’t it? They just look a lot better now. I have both and an Xbox One X but I really just need a 4K TV... Shadow of War for sure has improved much better graphically and it’s very noticeable even on a 1080p TV.
Magnum Respawn just got sold to EA. So I'm concerned about the titanfall franchise going down hill. I like Titanfall 2 because it doesn't have a season pass or micro-transactions.
I've gone back to this game this week and was truly blown away by how good Halo 5 now looks! Thanks for a great video John. I know you sometimes read the comments, do you know if you will be re visiting Titanfall 2 now the X has another new patch to fix the resolution and graphics? Thanks!
@@blulu8620 60fps is more than enough I don't mind even 30 fps in some instances. What I don't understand is when people try to make 30fps to be unplayable or it hurts there eyes or some other bullshit. That's just people being pretentious. Even worst when they say the same about 60fps....
@@blulu8620 yes that's true. But that must mean they can't enjoy simple film or television seeing as film is 30fps unless you've seen the hobbit in high framerate at Imax that shit just made everything look Soo plastic
Maybe 343 should stop listening to dumbass Halo fans and make the game they way. Infinite's problem is at least partly to blame on it's art style, and 343 listening to fans wanting the old classic Halo look and feel back.
This console is a monster, I own one and and believe me when you compare this console with the previous one the difference is night and day. Just wait for the developers know to optimize the games, a lot of fanboys trashing this console but the reality is that games are looking amazing with the X.
Halo 5 really is a technical masterpiece for video games. To get a beautiful 60 frames they had dynamic resolutions going on. In my opinion more games should do that to hit a lock 60. but now for the X enough power to keep the resolution up. 60 frames was what they were going for and hit it. Now the game looks even more beautiful
I’m not even watching this video on a 4K monitor and I can clearly see the difference. My lord, my X comes in the mail next Friday even though I pre ordered day one. Thank you amazon..
they are almost gone now so probably not worth the risk, but amazon got a large, late stock of scorpio editions. Most people were better off cancelling their normal preorder and ordering that. There were apparently a couple of incidents that tied up the stock of normal editions for several retailers. I canceled my walmart scorpio tuesday because they are having a billing fiasco that is causeing delays, and ordered one from amazon... got it next day. Fantastic.
That's impressive native 4k 60fps on a triple A fps game. Well done Microsoft and 343 industries you guys delivered. Edit: people are so edgy these days smh
This doesn't look better than Infinite gameplay. No pbr materials, no dynamic lighting, less environment details, much smaller levels and draw distance is even worse except for the obvious clouds in the elevation scene. The problem with Infinite is we expected more and 343 didn't blow us away with next gen graphics but people saying it's inferior to older Halo's don't have a clue about graphics.
Anime - [HD] & [60FPS] no, credit the Xbox engineering team, they have done an impossible job and a console 100% for us, cost 650$ to make and theyre selling it at 500$ Bold move
I say congrats to all gamers really. Even if you're not planning to get an X yourself, Microsoft pushing the envelope on console power right now, will undoubtedly push the next gen further in terms of power vs where they could have been otherwise.
Nu-Nu Ruk not into pc gaming. I have a beefy one but use it for work only. Like to play with a controller, with no cheating and hacking. And I dont like having a pc in my livingroom. The 1X is the perfect console. Powerfull, small, quiet and runs cool
But the input lag is to high for shooters with Stem link, and I don't want to play against mouse & keboard users. No that there i no hacking problems in Destin. But overal it's a concern in a lot of pc games
Can we please get more content with John aka Darkx. i love when he does breakdowns because you can hear his absolute passion for what he does. and it is always a joy to watch
@@Spiderweb007 i am to see if its worth downloading on my xbox one x. I haven't played a halo game seriously since Halo 3 on my original Xbox. I played halo 4 briefly only a few times for a week when my neighbor let me barrow their 360 right after the original Xbox One released...i only had a PS3 at the time. Halo 5 looks pretty amazing on the One X
H. E. M. Let’s see, FH4 has a 60fps option for it and Gears 5 is 60fps on it, RDR2 is by far the best console version on it with a crisp native 4K image, it has the best version of every console 3rd party game that came afterwards, it was used to its full potential, it did what it was meant to do and more with the 60fps options we were given on many games unlike the PS4 Pro so nah.
People really don't understand how demanding 4K rendering is on hardware. Once you fiddle with it on a PC, it becomes apparent that native 4K is often not the obvious choice. (even if I have a 7.9TFLOP GPU) I would much rather have a game with 2K or 3K and use the extra performance on things that actually increase graphical fidelity, post-processing or framerate rather than image quality. If you're playing at a decent distance from your TV that extra pixel count requires an insane amount of performance and has a very low perceptual impact
Very much this. I have a 4K monitor and a Vega 56 and most games look better rendered at 1440p upscaled by the GPU with high/ultra settings for eye candy rather than native 2160p at minimum settings barely hitting 60FPS locked. My biggest issue is that these consoles are being marketed as "true 4K gaming" when it isn't. There's nothing wrong with dynamic resolution and other trickery as long as they're honest about it in the marketing material; unfortunately they aren't which is why those of us that know what it takes to get true 4K running get annoyed.
No, I'm saying it's being marketed that EVERYTHING is true 4K. I know there are a few games such as Forza or Gears of War that are locked to 2160p at their respective framerates; games my GPU could do that with too (Horizon 3 locked at 60 Ultra as an example). But many games are making tradeoffs to maintain the 60FPS. All I'm calling for is honesty up-front in the marketing material that this will occur on a game-by-game basis.
Stating the obvious there. The GPU power required is significantly higher so you would expect it to. If you have the kind of power to run either 1440p high/ultra or 2160p low/medium (which depending on the game is where cards like Vega 56 and GTX 1070 sit) then the upscaled 1440p will look better and run smoother.
Coming here after the Infinite gameplay kinda shows that 343 would totally be capable to produce something at least as pretty as that in an "open world-game" on a next gen console... delaying the game is necessary, Halo 5 still looks quite beautiful in some places!
Halo 5 on Xbox One X looks stunning period. The problem is 343 needs to stop listening and catering to Halo fans who keep begging for old Halo. If fans want classic Halo, go play them.
@@HTHAMMACK1 absolutely, this even looks better than infinite on a 1.3 tf console like what the fuck did they do in 5 yrs. and with that 500mil dollars.
@@HTHAMMACK1 They could gave recaptured the art style without butchering the lighting and textures lmao. Halo 3 and reach were and are still beautiful games. If they had have created a game that looked like the discover hope or slip space demos then no one would be complaining.
Can't wait for Halo 6 on PC. Also Good job 343. looks good. This is the first game that actually looks impressive that DF has shown off on the XBX imo.
The upgrade in IQ from the patch is fucking incredible on this game. Honestly I really didn't care much for the X prior to launch but the system level downsampling for 1080p displays, 4k on backward compatible games, forced 16x texture filtering etc has seriously impressed me. On a side note, can we expect a comprehensive DOOM comparison now the Switch version is out?
Unversed [XI's old channel] Richard was very exited with the prospect of testing final code of Doom Switch. I expect it in 48h max. But perhaps it will apear in 48min... One can hope.
Just being that character who lives under a bridge Why not? There is Starcraft 64 for Nintendo 64. Apparently it's pretty good. So why not for Nintendo Switch?
Yo the wait is starting to get unbearable for me with The Witcher 3 Xbox One X update, that's the only way i'll play it for my 6th and final full playthrough. :-]
The Witcher? The only people who play that game are in love with Witches , I downloaded it but deleted it.. and that's ironic because I'm in love with a real witch. Lol. The game itself though , looks pretty shitty and boring. No thanks.
Oh no! Master Chief isn’t the only hero in the Halo lore. Whether it has him or not I’m fine with that and the forerunner enemies aren’t that bad, don’t see why people even hate them.
Oh no! I think Arbiter would deserve 2nd shot as playable character especially If they can make his gameplay and mission design different enough from Chief's
There is a good balance of covenant and promethean in halo 5 and john is still the main character in halo 5. Banished and flood will be in halo 6 too. VARIETY
yes on MC only - its like halo 4-5-6 is following some trends of the 1-2-3. However, no on the "get rid of... Prometheans" - they did a much better job with them in 5 vs 4, and I want them to finally get it totally right in 6. I hope, actually, for no more of the enemies that used to be part of the covenant - wrt the story, it would not even make sense anymore and they are only included at this point because some fans cannot let go.
343i have had there ups and downs however what cannot be ignored is there masterful gaming engineering. From Halo 4 on the 360 to Halo 5 on the X. They know how to make a very good looking game and make it play even better.
@@exiledrabbit Hmm I don't know, I get the feeling they will opt for parity between both Series X and PC though the PC might have more bells and whistles.
Yesterday I restarted playing the campign and didn't expect too much from an old game, but I was totally wrong it's day and night different ! Long live 343 industries !!!!
I know but the game is not loved by halo fans. additonally, I didn't expect it to get a good optimized patch and it's not as new as other xbox enhanced games
I thought they said it was something about with locked 60fps in the campaign on the original hardware the game droping heavily in resolution and spliting it in 2 screens wouldnt look good at all and its too late now maybe if the original xbox one had the x's power they can give us 1080p split screeb but i think its too late now
Yea, remember that split screen more than doubles the load on the CPU - you may have to render almost twice as much stuff, and handle significantly more AI and player interactions. That stuff isn't easily offloaded onto the GPU, which makes it still very hard to achieve.
One suggestion for future videos: be consistent with the placement of the console label on the screen. You keep switching the placement of the console name which, coupled with the consoles within a family having pretty much the same logo, makes the comparisons more difficult to follow when I need to constantly be looking around the frame for what console I am looking at.
It is right now showing us that Microsoft can push 4K 60fps is nothing that is to be expected from them. What I want to see is something like Assassin's Creed Origins or Wolfenstein 2 run at 4K 60fps or 30fps none stop
@Wolfeschreit that's what I'm thinking, besides, X's connectivity issues are rather discouraging lol. Heck, 2 years saving one can end up with a beast of a gaming pc, 4k res and 70+ fps in ultra settings.
@Deathtrooper40 How so?? Its been so long since I played/beat Reach on the xbox 360 but I dont ever remember people complaining that it doesnt feel like a Halo game outside of not playing as Master Chief.
Oladapo Olaleye digitalfoundry said xbox one x has soft texture 4k when playing ac origins... Soft texture means soup texture ... Xbox one x cannot even hit native 4k and has no 4k assets at all.... Soft texture is equals to soup texture... Im really disappointed on my xbox one x i expect native 4k all i get is checkerboard 4k with zero 4k assets.. I expect native 4k on xbox one x on a newer triple a games because phil spencer advertise xbox one x as true 4k native.... And mark cerny advertise ps4 pro as dynamic 4k hdr... I was really disappointed..
Was totally blown away my first time playing Halo 5 on the Xbox one X .. came from a 360 then PS4, picked up the X for a good deal and .. I literally couldn't believe my eyes..
Yeah I'm with you on this.after playing the master chief collection on the series X it's the only one I have had to stop and hope for a patch it's just to noticeable and looks poor
Great analysis! Halo 5 is a visual delight. That unpatched test was really interesting, I would like to see how Overwatch runs with its dynamic resolution and Titanfall 1 with its vsync problems.
One problem, certain parts of the environment(like the ground in the 1st stage) looks like they use the same textures just with a higher resolution. I was expecting for 4k assets to be installed replacing all old textures with new ones. With Ark I noticed that the textures were completely replaced with new, better looking textures.
H5 is my favorite multiplayer game to play. I hadn’t played in months, but came back to try it on the X at 4K. It’s truly amazing how great it looks. Definitely coming back for more and can’t wait for that MCC X1X patch!
i have to say that in my opinion adaptive resolution is the biggest contribution made to gaming in a while (including pc and consoles) if done properly it bridges the gap between all hardware used, enables future proofing and personally as long as the dip in resolution to produce 60 in gpu heavy scenes doesnt go bellow 1080p im happy to sacrifice for a bit so i can have a smooth 60.
And would cost you arms and legs. As it would be impossible to have 4k console in 2013 not costing thousands of dollars. Think people all the time about price. Console must be powerful but cheap, and that much harder to do when you think
Can anyone really answer the question WHY DO THEY HAVE TO TURN DOWN AF? It seems weird, nobody on PC has had any issues with 16x AF since mid 2000s. At any resolution and most any hardware. Why do consoles have so much trouble with it!?
I would like to see a video comparing how the Master Chief Collection was at launch vs. how it is now on One, One X, Series S, Series X and PC (obviously not the original version on PC as that version doesn't exist).
I never had a 4K TV until I got a Series X, and I had the basic original Xbox One until now. Well, considering the Series X is able to run Xbox One games (even if it's not specifically Series X Optimized) I gotta say Halo 5 looks great in 4K. There are tiny details that pop so much more.
My Xbox X arrived this week and I did the huge update for Gears of War 4. The picture is so smooth and the Atmos is amazing. Am I right in saying that Halo 5 has had an update too? Does this include an Atmos track please?
For those who need to know, Halo: infinite gameplay was from 4 months ago (wrong) and the dev team has stated that it is “improving every day”. The art style will still be very different but will run 4K 60fps on Series X. Update: It was actually from several weeks ago instead of months
campaign coulda been better. coulda been better by doing just ONE thing. make locke vs. chief an actual boss battle and not a shitty 30 second cinematic. boom. instantly better campaign and game
EVD 1202 I agree, the campaigns of Halo 4 and 5 just didn't have the magic that Bungies campaigns did. I appreciate them drawing from the lore of the novels, and I really liked the idea of non-combat missions, but I just didn't care about the characters or the story. Didn't have the simplicity and hype of the original. Losing split screen was a downer too. Forge was always fun with friends.
Scrubby I think it wasn't as "classic" as Bungies Halos, especially because of the campaign not having that magic touch, but the multiplayer and the way the game feels and controls was fantastic and the best Halo has ever felt and looked.
Nick Martinez those are downsides, HOWEVER, what IS there works very very well. The gameplay is tight and feels great, it LOOKS good, matchmaking is good, balance and competitive scene is well cared for, all content is free, substantial, and is even STILL being released, Forge is so good that it's like a developer tool and they've used it to create tons of classic maps. But yes, the missing parts are a bummer. But I think what is there is great
I partly disagree, only partly, I felt like some of the shorter missions could have had a massive improvement. The first mission as an example could have treated Jul as a boss battle and even join the air assault evident in the background.
I think the CPU power is just a concern for Minecraft, when it comes to world generation. Once it is done, the Bedrock-Engine isn’t much stressing the CPU.
You are here to see how the fanboys in the comments defend Halo infinite graphics by saying they didn't like the cut scenes of halo 5 because they look to real. They want the classic look of Halo one. They were all excited because they thought Halo infinite graphics were going to be super with the 12 teraflops, and when they saw the graphics couldn't say nothing but the excuse mention above.
Yes, please cover Halo 3 on Xbox One X because this even has HDR support and is the most amazing thing I've seen so far on the system. Even the textures from 2007 hold up until now. I wonder how the remastered (Anniversary) versions of Halo 1 and 2 from the Master Chief Collection will look like, hoping Halo 4 will get HDR support as well. Why not Halo 5?
While this is definitely the first actually noticable improvement I've seen for the X, the praise given in the video seems a bit over-the-top? As far as I can see, three things were changed: max resolution for the dynamic resolution system, texture filtering and LOD distances. Honestly, that doesn't really warrant all the kudos DF is giving here. Yes, it looks a lot better, but that result is achieved with seemingly minimal effort on the devs part. Tweaking the shadow map settings would have been a good idea. The additional memory the X offers should be more than enough to accommodate higher res shadow maps. So, yes: Congratulations to X owners for getting an actually worthwhile improvement, but I don't see a reason to praise the devs for these tweaks.... I also don't see how this was "such a short time" for a patch. Devs had access to the X hardware for months by now. That's not exactly a short time to tweak a few engine parameters.
Clairvoyant81 a well thought out response. I just think for me the biggest draw back from the X is the lack of exclusive games. Sony has had it in spades this generation and that alone makes them better in my opinion. If Microsoft had interesting titles I'd be much more drawn to the $500 price tag. I think for the $350 I got my Pro for was a steal.
+rob Stevens. I would have posted the same comment under a PS4 Pro comparison or an "HD patch" for a PC game. It has nothing to do with the platform and is all about how DF gush all over this, which is just way over the top. Also, as I said: Congratulations for an actually worthwhile improvement on X.
Clairvoyant81 Thanks for making a mature criticism, first of all. It's refreshing to see on a DF video. have to ask, have you since played Halo 5 on the X? I have a hard time imagining that if you did (on a proper 4k TV as well) that you'd have such a hard time relating with DFs sentiment on this. It is a truly amazing experience. The game's art and sense of scale become mesmerizing with the tweaks 343 has made for the X
I don't own an XBox since I have a fairly capable PC. But: My criticism was not with the achieved results (which are great, shadow maps aside, and clearly visible even on a good 1440p screen). My criticism was with DF praising the developer's "effort" when, if I'm correct in my assumptions, these tweaks are basically a few hours or perhaps days of testing and adjusting a handful of parameters. The result this minimum effort achieves is basically the engine doing its thing under the tweaked parameters on faster hardware. The only noteworthy thing is that the engine is flexible enough to do this... then again, that would be true for Unreal Engine, Unity and pretty much every other modern engine out there.
Mitch Burkitt Don phil is working on that. He's looking to buy some studios. To create exclusive games. That's definitely a good indication of his intent. cant wait!
Mitch Burkitt Ye they are working on investing More money and resources to 1st party studios but Its gonna take some Time before we see any results....it was only lately that Phil Spencer was able to convince MS boss Natella about the importance of MS Xbox/ video game department. When that leadership of MS changed they didnt consider Xbox and games as their core business which partly IS The reason why MS is now lacking strong lineup of exclusives
Frankie de Rossi Studios that'll take years to develop, you guys won't get games till the next generation, and even then they'll also be on PC so no point in buying an xbox still
Phil defended the lack of split screen in halo 5 and also called it the best halo multiplayer yet.... LOL! You actually take this joke of a man seriously? Xbox one x will continue to have shit exclusives and that's a fact. So what if it's the most powerful console. That means dick in the pc world. That means dick if your exclusives are shit.
Sir Cuckerson Von Jemerson Of course a console means nothing in the pc market cause in case u didn't know it is a "console" not a pc two different platforms. Halo 5 multiplayer was good not the best in the halo series. I do believe Phil Spencer when he said new exclusives are coming and the fact that he opened 7 new studios.
I can't wait! I got my Xbox One X Project Scorpio being delivered tomorrow, & I have Halo 5 Limited Edition brand new sitting on my game shelf from 2015. I never played it. Till now.
What's really letting the 1x down is not lack of power, but the lack of hi quality EXCLUSIVES perood. Every GAME should b of this hi level quality & performance. No excuses after seeing this guys.
Disappointment from a six-month-old build during the coronavirus? You obviously don't play Halo anytime they showed a old build of Halo 4 or Halo 5 they went back and fix it both times
Elli the support is as strong now as it was on release, the esports competitions are the best of any game in years, Sony has nothing that can compete at all
Elli they May have fucked up singleplayer campaign but the multiplayer was indeed improvement from Halo 4. And ofc Its One of those few games that can achieve 4k@60fps on both singleplayer and multiplayer
Playing Halo 5’s campaign on a 65” LG OLED tv in 4K in a pitch black room with Turtle Beach Stealth 700 headphones using windows sonic sound was an absolutely stunning experience. Blown away.
