I make this place, my last night in LA... I drive up from San Clemente, on a Sunday night, leaving around 12pm. I arrive at the Portofino Hotel, by 3pm. I change, then drive to Trump National, to sit at the bar. Then, I get a table on the deck, and order Prime Rib, and watch the sunset. Around 10pm, I drive back to the Portofino, and catch a flight back to NYC, around 2pm on Monday. Love CA!!
Back in the 60s, I was all over this area. Spearfish lunch out of the kelpbeds and cook on the rocks. This is the long, boring way in. Far easier to ask where flatrock is from the little plaza called Malaga Cove (where Neptune statue in the fountain is) on PV Drive West. New people probably call it Bluff Cove or the marine sanctuary. Hike down, you can hike miles right along the water. Do not try to climb the cliffs that can quickly become fatal. Real good boots, not sandals, water, food, sun proofing gear, expecting to get a bit wet, the tide can fool you here and there, but great fun.
