A great bird!? I can't wait to tweet about it! 🐦 1:42 (gasp) Retro Badger is learning not to mess about with the cloaking device!? All those sessions with Deanna Troi and listening to the "Can Can" on continuos playback have finally had an effect, eh?
So, my second stab at this: These ships appear to be the version of the BoP featured in the TNG episode "The Defector," in which the Enterprise is lured into a trap by the Romulans. However, the smirk on Commander Tomaluk's face is wiped clean when three giant Klingon BoP's de-cloak behind his two Warbirds. These BoPs are roughly 600 meters long and 650 meters wide. Huge. But, as we see here, there is a law of diminishing returns when it comes to the upscaling of the BoP. The BoP design is excellent for a small attack/scout ship because it allows a small ship to carry a heavy punch with two big disruptor cannons and two full-sized torpedo tubes. However, upscaling the design imposes limitations. The medium sized K'Vort type BoP is a decent medium cruiser because it carries even bigger disruptor cannons and good torpedo launchers. A very good exemplar of the ambush predator tactics the Klingons and Romulans employ thanks to their mastery of the cloaking device. That said, their limitations are apparent in terms of lacking 360 firing coverage. The giant BoPs are not great ships. Whereas their use of the heavy cannons is adequate in the ambush, their large space-frames lack firing coverage which leaves it very vulnerable when facing multiple enemies. During the Cardassian War these large BoPs, and even the K'Vorts, were easy prey to Galor squadrons of three cruisers who would bait the BoP with one ship, and then attack its dorsal and ventral sides with the other two ships. Moreover, large ships require a lot resources to build and require crews in excess of 500. All that for two disruptor cannons and two torpedo tubes. Compare and contrast to Starfleet ships of similar or smaller size with far better firing arcs, and even ships like the Galor/Keldon that also have powerful forward facing cannons, but still manage to have decent 360 degree firing arcs to defend itself against smaller attack ships. In general, I am not a fan of ambush predator ships like the big BoP or Warbird. As they say, woe to the ship in front of the K'Vort, and woe to the K'Vort with enemy ships hammering its dorsal and ventral sides!
I loved this. you make all my star trek battle fantasies come to life. If I can make one request to redo this but with 2 galaxies and 4 BOP, the more the marrier.
I get it would be a lot of work, but I wish they could have reskinned it some. Those windows on the bird are the size of the Galaxy's smaller shuttle bay doors.
"It's massive!" -That's what she said! Sorry I had to do that lmao The Galaxy class is definitely the victor. Man seeing a Klingon BOP as big as a Galaxy Class is nuts.
Well as long as the Shields are holding the Galaxy Class ist real good but if they fail she is a glass cannon. but i honestly thought that the fight would be much much closer then it was federation was the clear victor. thx for uploading it.
Yeah, I don't like it. Agility is such a key factor to what makes the BoP work. This thing is just too slow and lumbering to have all it's firepower limited to the forward arc. Frankly it's weapons don't even feel much more powerful than the regular BoP. Those disruptors should be at least 3x as powerful, and the torpedo launcher should get a solid 6 torpedoes at once, plus beam disruptors spread through the other arcs.
That's for B'rell class BOP. I believe K'vort don't have variable geometry wing. The wing on the miniature model during filming'r damage, so they stuck at upward position for the show. However her model on schematic also always have her wing in upward position, so i believe they'r indeed unmoveable. Perhaps its not possible because of her sheer size.
