4K Philadelphia Navy Yard 2023 BIG Ships BIG Planes  

Thanks to a viewer(s) who served on one of the "3 un-named/numbered" ships (you have no idea how bad I felt not giving them their due :-( here are our ships names:
USS Charleston (LKA-113)
USS Charleston was an amphibious cargo ship, equipped with a helicopter landing area on the stern, of the United States Navy. She was the fifth ship to be named Charleston for Charleston, South Carolina.
USS Charleston earned one campaign star for Vietnam War service. She served as a commissioned ship for 23 years and 4 months
USS El Paso (LKA-117)
USS EL PASO was the fifth and final CHARLESTON - class amphibious cargo ship. In the early 1980s, the EL PASO was transferred to the Naval Reserve Force, but returned to the active fleet shortly afterwards because of the need for additional sealift capacity. Decommissioned on April 21, 1994, the EL PASO was transferred to the Military Sealift Command in 1995 and moved to Bethlehem Steel, Sparrows Point, MD., for the Military Sealift Command conversion. However, this conversion was cancelled and the EL PASO was placed out of service on October 23, 1996. Since then, the EL PASO is laid up at the Naval Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility at Philadelphia, Penn.
USS Mobile (LKA-115)
was the third CHARLESTON - class amphibious cargo ship and the fourth ship in the Navy named after the city in Alabama. Initially laid down as AKA 115, the MOBILE was redesignated as LKA 115 on January 1, 1969.
Earned four campaign stars for Vietnam War service and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Operation Frequent Wind or 5 campaign stars if the Armed Forces Medal is exchanged for the 18th Vietnam campaign Operation Frequent Wind.

Something different! On July 4th, I went to a quiet Philadelphia Navy Base to film the BIG ships! If you like history and want to see battleships, here you are.
The entrance to the area is closed because of construction, so learned a new way to get around. I also learned the greenway is along the approach to Philadelphia International Airport. The end of the video turned into a plane spotting one.
I found it funny.
