To be fair Slightly MAD Studios' controller controls was always bad. NFS Shift 2 really really bad, Project Cars bad and I don't think it's better in PC2. Games like GT, FORZA, F1 do it way better.
otherZinc the only way you'll see a massive difference is on a 50-60 inch 4k television, because a good amount of people watch these videos on a 720p smartphone
Something something.......ps4 pro sucks Something something.......Xbox one X is the best Something something.......Pc master race Well, did I cover most of the comments? :0
Helpful comparison, thanks for putting this together. I'd suggest your driver might use his brakes a bit earlier, but I guess testing the collision physics is part of the stress test.
Do we have to patreon or something to get 4k from digital foundry? I have a Vizio p series and it always says their "4K" videos are displaying in 1080p. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or? Thanks
Is the resolution in windows set to 4k? Afaik youtube cannot change your screen resolution, so the TV should always show the current windows screen resolution (which should be 4k).
IF it was a good driver I could agree that you could draw some conclusions from it...but in this case there isn't that bar to measure against. (didn't try pcars with a controller and I trust people when they say it wasn't great, but I would still need a lot more than this video to know what it was like in pcars2. I mean, outside of a 5 year old I've never seen someone drive this bad :p)
Physics kinda suck for how that guy was slamming more should've happened to both cars. Wish cars was like Forza with choosing opponents. If you have people driving like this guy they'll find 10 of the dirtiest drivers and put you against them until you learn to drive.
You didn't mention that the frame rate of the rear view mirror appears to be in line with the frame rate of the main camera on the PS4/PS4 Pro but on the Xbox One it appears to be just 30 fps or less. Other than that excellent video.
jason freeman i'm not sure about 4k. The one x is somewhere around 40% more powerful than the PS4 Pro. So tell me how they are gonna achieve twice the resolution at stable 60fps? Edit: Forza 7 looks to be 4k though
I noticed there are different update-rates of reflections (and back mirror) between the versions, is all this considered when making your framerate comparison? What about texture filtering and that horribly aggressive LOD on car models?
I see that the driver in this video follows the "Real Racing 3" school of approaching the first turn at full speed and knocking out as many CPU cars as possible! 😂😂😂
Great video ! Though the game still looks quite bad to me, alpha effectslook very low resolution, and the overall presentation has nothing to impress. Are you planning on making a video for NBA 2K18 on Switch ?
For a game claiming to have realistic physics , the cars sure don't move like real cars visually . It looks like the suspension is made of fucking jello . Cars don't wobble when they shift weight as they have dampers . Cars that wobble like that have their coils and springs shot .
Any graphical improvements on PS4 Pro on a 1080p screen??!?!? Please DigitalFoundry don't forget to address this, there are a lot of us Pro-1080p users out there!
I understand digital foundry is about graphical comparisons but please improve the driving next time. It's hard to focus on what's happening on screen when cars are just ramming into each other
Rather surprised that the speed of the rearview mirror wasn't mentioned. It looks as though it updates at half rate on Xbox One, but the full rate on PS4 and Pro. At the more major stress points, it looked like the mirror was dropping to as low as 15fps on Xbox One. Not a criticism of that version per-se, though that's something that personally really bothers me. Forza Motorsport's mirror updates at half rate too, and I find it jarring (Horizon's doesn't obviously because the games themselves only run at 30fps). But at least the framerate is ultra stable in Forza, so the mirror never goes below 30fps.
PC is more for indies, mobas and early access games, with low PC sales and piracy it makes sense they focus on the Console versions instead of the PC port.
Dibils YS when they do videos like this I turn on my 4k HDR tv t.v. And I see the upgrades because even if Sony doesn't announce differences they are clear to see
This is THE game on PC for racing sim fans. I'd only buy this for PC for the VR support. I can't race without VR anymore. It's impossible. PC1 VR has been a blast. Can't wait for PC2!
Yes, it's targeting 60fps and all that but I have seen no car game that even gets near to DriveClub's physics ( lighting, weather, animations... ) simulation, and it's been 3 years...
Didn't Phil Spencer say that PS4 Pro was an Xbox One S competitor? PS4 Pro = 1360-1440p basically locked 60fps XB1S = 864p-972p and dips down to 33.9fps LMAO what happened?
Danny Verdesoto Forza will look better and will be a good game, but good luck online when 18 of 24 player in your lobby have one intention that is to hit you of the road and send you into the tire barriers. All driving games have this issue but Forza takes it to the next level. The real racers will be picking up project cars 2.
Minor upgrades for a 'sequel'. The reason for the quick release? They wanted to stop paying the original backers (who received small royalties every couple months).
Xcentr1cK Xcentr1cK No, sorry. At Gamescom they stated it will have "true 4K" which is Microsoft deceit for checkerboarding and dynamic resolution scaling. Just wait and see. Forza 6 also used dynamic scaling btw. in stress situations.
kraenk12 You're wrong. As I said above.. all the resolutions are native. Digital foundry has said repeatedly that Forza 5, 6, and 7 are native. If you have proof of your theory, feel free to post a link.
This game looks and runs incredible on my ps4 pro and 4k tv. I have experienced no drops in frames even using the dynamic weather feature. Im a forza fan and i’ve got to say the developers did an incredible job here, the handling takes a bit of time to get used to but other than that, it looks insane. These comments are false and full of trolls with biased opinions, i bet a lot of you havent played the game at all.
Nice Try DF, You tried Xbox-One S "ONLY" in the stress test where even base PS4 can`t help itself (and runs at 846P 46FPS) but did not try the S on sunny conditions where the base PS4 sees the improvements (hint the S also sees the improvements there) and the truth is, you did try the Sunny conditions on the S, you saw the improvements and got them hidden(threw them) under the carpet. I wasn`t expecting such a low move from you guys, really really sad...
That is the case most of the time, but not in Project Cars where tests in sunny conditions (in the first game) demonstrated the largest bump in frame rate of all games tested (20+%) that is more than enough to hit 60FPS in sunny races (and the standard Xbox is running at 52FPS thus missing only 8 frames to hit 60, something that the "S" has demonstrated to be able to pull off in Project Cars). I agree that none of these versions offer acceptable performance though, PC and Xbox One X are probably the only way to go.
Let me get this straight, Dave here is suggesting NOT to buy this game on Xbox, including the S, because the rainy stress test runs at 846P 44FPS with screen tearing, but then suggests to get the base PS4 version over it, because...it runs the same stress test at 846P 46FPS with screen tearing?? Ahh but the suggestion was referring to the sunny races...and...where are the Xbox One "S" Sunny Races Tests (considering that all systems from base XB1 to PS4-Slim fail the rainy part)?? Nowhere to be found, though in previous games the S added up to 12FPS compared to the base model. I call BS.
so to sum up: ps4pro is best version with 1440p and almost locked 60fps. X1 is worst version with a low resolution and a very unstable 60 fps that goes to the 30's at points.
Ziv Riger I did watch the video. The only difference is a few FPS and the resolution is DYNAMIC on both of the consoles. It doesn’t perform “much better.” It performs 2% better, and it’s almost unnoticeable. They also said that image quality takes slight hits in resolution on the PS4. You picked out the good things you heard about the PS4.
a few FPS? the game on the xbox 1 can reach 30fps while ps4 almost all the time stays above 45fps and much closer to 60 overall. also while the res is dynamic on both we gotta remember that 1) ps4 has a max res of 1080p while the x1 has a lower max res.
So...the brainstorm of a design meeting was basically - ok lads, Forza, GT games already out there. Let's make something almost the same. Whoa slow down there you imaginative developers, come back to Earth with your crazy ideas
I played the first Project Cars, and I have to say: it's one of the worst racing games I've ever played in my life, and easily one of the glitchiest, too. And frankly, I don't get what this new one even changes or how it still somehow fails to perform as well as it should. The worst part is, supporting this game means supporting one of the worst scam artist lying developers in the entire industry, and even if the game was good (which is most definitely isn't), I wouldn't support them in the slightest. Thankfully, there are many many better racing games around, like Driveclub, Forza, Forza Horizon, WipEout Omega Collection, The Crew 2, CodeMasters games, and even Gran Turismo Sport (somehow).
you're right it was absolute trash. I sold that shit the same day I got it. Day 1 buy and sell lmao. Played forza 7 demo and it's a blast. Ran through two of the tracks multiple times. You getting the ultimate or the standard edition?
Only the xbox x will do this game full justice. I find the PS pro just not showing the game at it's full potential. cant wait to see the comparison for the X.
enzo molinari Idiot Project Cars 2 will look significantly better on Xbox One Xcompared to PS4 Pro, according to Slightly Mad Studios Game Director, Stephen Viljoen. In an exclusive interview with
1360p 60fps with 32 cars seems great on the ps4 PRO, I just hope they can iron out those 5 fps drops during storms. I'm looking forward to the One X, which should be able to run even more demanding games @1360p 60. This one should be able to render at about 1620p 60. WHat's intersting is the sharp decrease in performance on the base ps4 and Xbox one. I believe that some graphics settings should be tweaked on the ps4 in order to achieve 900p 60fps locked, prioritizing a sharper resolution and smooth gameplay over effects quality. The Xbox one should be allowed to dynamically lower the resolution up to 760p in order to achieve the 60fps lock, and maybe even enable a 1366x768 resolution option, so that we can connect it to an older HD LCD or Plasma TV and play at native resolution. I like the idea of somebody with an old 768p plasma and an xbox one from 2013 being able to enjoy the latest games in a way that makes the best of his resources.
I wonder if there is a single corner in which you don't go long on the brakes and actually smash through the rest of the cars. Seriously, it looks like you want to play Destruction Derby 2.
sebianoti This an actual racing sim where as Forza is an arcadey sim. There can be more than one racing game and I'm sure you will understand that when you're an adult
Trippy James yeah, we'll see about that. Either way, if your platform of choice is X1, you already made a mistake; X1X can't compete with PC's power and it can't compete with Switch and PS4's exclusive games.
Nobody gives a "Flying" about exclusives anymore, just Skyrim alone sold more copies that all PS4 and Xbox One exclusives COMBINED (GTA actually sold 4 times as much all that combined). It only matters whether you prefer the Console experience or the PC experience, and if console, which one plays your favorite games best. In my case (and millions of others) the favorite games are the big third party releases like Destiny, Battlefield, Mordor, Assasins Creed, Cod, Fifa, Madden, Witcher, Skyrim and so on (and for my budget, Xbox-One X all the way).
Far too many Pro enhanced games hovering around 1440p is why I opted to pre-order the Scorpio. I understand it's not going to be true native 4K but it has to do at least 1800p or better. IT HAS TO DAMN IT!!
kraenk12 you are making yourself look stupid let me teach you. Xbox is a console you don't make it yourself a pc is a computer you can do what you want at anytime
we all know Forza is amazing and one of the best games at what it does, this game will never como close, specially with those poor graphics and strange physics.
Forza 7 looks and plays better than this ... I know phyics are different and I'm glad playstation gamers will be getting a solid racer but man forza 7 on Xbox one x is going look amaizng at 4k
But very few people have a 4K TV and they don't have the money to buy one or the XOX. And the people that do have the money for XOX already have a better PC.
I know, i have 2. I have a top of the range 65" 4K HDR Premium Panasonic for £3,500. And a mid range 40" 4K HDR Samsung for £430. But there are a lot of people out there who can't even afford a cheap 4K TV. Not everyone is fortunate. You have students for example. Young parents who have bills and kids to feed and cloth etc etc.
