One of my favorite things about the AORUS QD OLEDS is how well they switch between SDR and HDR and keep your profile settings. That was very convenient.
Thank god. With this, none of these manufacturers will have an excuse to justify slapping DP1.4 onto a 4K 240Hz monitor in 2024 with a $1k+ price tag. I absolutely refused to buy one of these 4K OLEDs equipped with last-gen tech, so it's good to see companies actually releasing new-gen tech.

standout feature: allows to change brightness in HDR To my knowledge this is the only 4K QD-OLED monitor with that feature. Ideally this would be added to the features grid featured towards the end.
Insane that this feature is not standard. First time I enabled HDR on my monitor I searched all the menus to reduce brightness a bit. Could not believe there is no way to do that. Now I understand those people who prefer dark mode everywhere.
The Asus PG32UCDM supports brightness adjustment in HDR too but it's disabled by default as then the HDR "doesn't look as intended" (PQ curve is changed as far as I understand).
@@Mcvalverte the brightness slider in Windows hdr settings is for sdr content. (how bright sdr content is while hdr is active. it does not affect hdr content). if you mean something else, feel free to say.
@@vasamuz thanks for the information. As for it adjusting the curve: in my opinion, in an ideal world, there'd be (at least) two sliders: * one to adjust brightness (multiplication factor on the curve) = adjusting as what user would expect. Meaning eg. at 50%, every value only half as bright. * one to adjust peak brightness (how/when the curve rolls off at the top). Here is to hoping.. btw: the gigabyte only allows doing it in its "HDR Game" and I think "HDR Vivid" presets. Not in the generic (most accurate) HDR preset. But i take what i can get.. last note: maybe tools like monitorian or TwinkleTray can. My current hdr monitor denies changing brightness via osd when hdr is active, but it works via such tools. (the technology used by those tools is called DCC-CI).
FINALLY! Thank you Tim! The Gigabyte FO32U2P is the CHEAPEST of these 4 QD-OLED here in Singapore. Very tempted to buy it now! There's practically no downside even when paired with my 7900XTX, except maybe for the brightness reporting. If I encounter it, I'd send a report to AMD or Gigabyte. Just need to make sure I get certified cables for 40Gbit.
Bought in Singapore 1.5 mths ago and been happy with it. Alienware is far cheaper than the rest, but Gigabyte has the fullest feature set - usb-c, speakers (as a back-up), flat panel, fanless.
Is that the case? I live in Singapore, and I still see on most e-commerce sites that the Alienware is the cheapest at 1599 SGD - the MSI and Gigabyte are priced around 2k flat SGD.
@@chanbenyamin3527 I would buy the FO32U2P unless you want to use the black frame insertion in Asus. Or you want all the red LED when playing diablo iv. 😂

I’m gonna get it when it drops in NZ! But please do tell me, is there anyway to use NVIDA DSR on this monitor such as by maybe using a DP 1.4 cable or a way to turn of DSC on the monitor? Really wanna be able to use DSR but also want this monitor for future GPU upgrades

Avoid Asus because it may sound nice on Tim review (I had PG32UCDM as well) but HDR peak1000 mode is very dark in brighter 100% full screen scenes and have coil whine while monitor is off.
I got the Gigabyte two weeks ago. Over here in Europe its similar price as the MSI, the Asus is more expensive. I liked the stand more than the MSI ones. I'd guess if you come from a non Oled screen and cannot compare side-by-side the choice doesn't matter performance wise, they are all amazing I'm sure. Best monitor I owned.. the 4k IPS panel I was using before looks like watching through a dirty window in comparison.

Love your channel. Appreciate your hard work! I've been contemplating my next monitor upgrade for over a year now. I keep waiting. It's always been worth it to wait. This sounds good.
Glad to hear about the update to HDR testing methodology, thwnk you very much! Really wish we had it when the earlier OLEDs were reviewed, but at least we'll be able to get a better idea with the incoming stuff.
I bought the FO32U2 and it's a pretty significant upgrade from my VA panel. I did the firmware update to fix an issue where the panel wouldn't auto start its maintenance. The firmware updated without issue and everything seems to be working as intended. So far, I am supremely happy with my monitor. I'd def recommend it to anyone looking for a QDOLED. Also, AMA you want if you have questions. I'll answer them best I can.
How is the brightness? Do you ever feel that it should be brighter, or are you fully satisfied? I don't have a window behind my monitor, but I can't make it really dark when it's not dark aka night outside. I will need a new monitor and want to buy a 4k/2160p 240hz one, so it would be an OLED, but the lack of brightness is worrying me a bit.
@@DELTA9XTC I have a window to my left and it does not impede the brightness of this monitor. I have my brightness at 85 and contrast at 70 with black leveling at 6. There are so many ways to get the desired brightness and contrast that suits you. To my eyes, it's a very bright monitor and much brighter than my Gigabyte VA Ultrawide. It's an overall brilliant picture, friend.
I'd been waiting specifically for this review before pre-ordering mine. I knew I would ultimately get it unless there was some major flaw that was pointed out in your review. Despite that happening with the cord issue, I still went ahead as I can make do with shorter cables for the time being, but I mostly wanted a monitor that I didn't feel like I might want to replace in anything under 5 years. I feel so much happier about my decision because, with the 3 videos made around this specific monitor, I don't feel like I will be caught by any potential negative surprises. Burn in is still a concern but I feel more confident with this monitor, than any other tech purchase I've made, that I wont get buyers remorse.
I've been waiting for your review of this for a long while. Looks like a great QD-OLED option. My main concerns are burn-in with desktop use, VRR flicker, and ambient lighting affecting black depth. I'm sure you've covered ambient lighting in previous videos, so I'd have to buy a QD-OLED and see how it does in my room's lighting. Great review as always.
You won't be disappointment. I have FO32U2P already 700+ hours. No issues in games with vrr flicker, black levels and I could care less about burn in when I have before my eyes such an exceptional image quality - anyway you have 3 years burn in warranty peace of mind so there is that for qd-oleds.
@@MrM-dl5zm Do you do long hours of desktop/productivity usage with the monitor to expedite burn-in, and do you have a lot of ambient lighting in your room? I have an open window, so that would be the extent of it.
@@SlavolkoTo answer your question - I have 2 windows on my left half opened during the day, there is also desk lamp behind monitor and I have behind my head 1 meter away a ceiling lamp. My conclusion is that at whatever day I use this monitor it destroys any VA/IPS I had before if we talk about black levels and depth of shadow quality - remember also that playing/watching HDR content is best to use in dark room for best effect performance for your eye pupils. I have brightness in SDR set at 42% which is about 120 nits and it works very well in my use case scenario, it does not make my eyes sore and I can sit 10+ hours with no issues. I use monitor 50% gaming/movies, 20% browsing, 30% photoshop/photo editing. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
@@MrM-dl5zm I'm glad you are enjoying it. You are correct that the black levels can still be better than IPS and VA, so I'd have to see how it is in my environment. My biggest issues would then be burn-in from desktop usage, which would be 80% in the browser, and reflections from the semi-glossy coating. I don't think a glossy OLED would work for me specifically, so I'll probably keep waiting for a mini-LED or other type of monitor to come around. Enjoy the monitor though!
AORUS models arrive at a much more expensive price tag than regular GIGABYTE models in certain regions. So I hope there will also be the more budget-friendly GIGABYTE equivalent 4K 240hz OLEDs. Just to give you an example, in my region the 1440p IPS AORUS monitors are more than TWICE the price of the equivalent GIGABYTE counterpart with same specs.
Appreciate all these videos. I'm one of the few (I guess?) who won't ever bother with OLED displays until burn in is no longer a thing, but it's still nice to hear the details being discussed.
no need to be feared over burn in as burn in should be your least concern. In exchange you will get impeccable image quality and peace of mind for at least 3 years with burn in warranty
I own this monitor. I use this for both gaming and productivity. USB-C with one-button KVM is the differentiator for me and makes this monitor totally worth it. Was able to get rid of a USB hub and a ton of cables, cleaning up my workspace
Pretty much every modern title has a hard time hitting 4K120 as it is even on monster hardware, it will be a very very long time before we can get 240HZ 4K gaming as the norm outside of hyper optimized esports junk.
@@TonyHerson some people aren't sensitive to it, or you don't play dark games and you don't see it. Most flickering is very obvious when their are high contrast scenes (black background beside a white wall or background).

This channel is sadly really bad when it comes to testing for flicker. Almost like they tend to play on fixed refresh rate and thusly never experience this frustrating flaw of many screens. Been asking for this to be seen to for months. RTings has recently updated their testing to properly include VRR Flicker testing. You're better off checking there. Bad news: every oled seems to have really bad vrr flicker, regardless of firmware updates that claim to address it (MSI).
@@BSEUNHIR I've been using the AW3225QF for a month now and I've never experienced flicker once. I use both SDR / HDR, Gsync enabled, solo low FPS game (Assassins Creed, Tomb Rider, CP77, BG3...) & esport titles capped at 240 fps.
@@BSEUNHIR VRR flicker is overall such a strange topic, I've tried the Gigabyte FO27Q3 before but had to return it due to INSANE VRR flicker. Like borderline unusable flicker, even with perfect frame pacing, vsync on, etc. But a lot of people, including Tim, claim it's fine, and that they cant see flicker outside of menus and loading screens. Perhaps it varies, maybe there's a panel lottery. I dunno. There's not a lot of research about it other than the RTings article.
@@BSEUNHIR There's no point in even testing that. They all flicker when the frametime is unstable. I haven't seen a single display that doesn't have severe VRR flicker and I've tried a lot.
I had this one and the MPG321 and decided to keep the MPG. I’m the type to upgrade frequently and bequeath my old hardware to my wife. In the US after tax the price difference was almost $300 (and that was with the pre-order pricing from Newegg on the U2P). That was ultimately the deciding factor for me, but the U2P was very very nice as well. Can’t really go wrong on the new 4K OLEDs so far.
@@mr_future I prefer the OSD on the MSI. The U2P would also bug out for me in HDR with APL set to high. When I changed it initially it would be in HDR1000. Then when I’d turn the U2P off and come back to it to turn it on later it would be in True Black mode and I would have to calibrate in windows HDR again to get back to 1000. The HDR Game setting is too vibrant and inaccurate overall on the U2P. MSI also does not have a power brick, which I prefer and the MSI actually has a separate power button. The power button on the gigabyte is the joystick and you can’t remap it to either of the buttons that flank the joystick. All of that is to say that I like the MSI significantly more in practice. I actually wanted the U2P to convince me to keep it by being a clearly superior product. It simply was not almost $300 better IMO.
@MonitorsUnboxed Hello, I want to buy a 27 inch gaming monitor for my gaming pc (RTX 4080 super). I play a balanced mix of fps shooters and AAA titles. (Like Apex legends and cyberpunk) I'm looking at a 4K IPS and a QHD OLED Modell. Would you say you can see a difference between QHD and 4K on 27 inch? So do you think it's better to play QHD and enjoy the better colours & HDR gaming content with the OLED if you can't see any difference on 27 inches? Or is there a noticeable difference, which is why I should go with 4K IPS to get all the details of the game world and not waste the power of the GPU? (The monitors I have in mind are the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM or Dell Alienware AW2725DF (for QHD OLED) and the MSI 27U (for 4k) Thank you for ur help!
Reading several reports regarding the installation of the recent, and first it’s worth noting, firmware update for this monitor there appears to be a lot of confusion as to exactly this should be done especially as concerns cables and ports. Would you consider being the first to make a detailed and step by step video detailing the correct procedure? Thanks.
Tim great review as usual! Are there any new mini-led IPS monitors coming out. I'm still not sold on getting an OLED. ( I don't want to have to deal with the possibility of burn in)
29:37 "Risk of burn-in"... Rather, it's 100% assured you'll get it eventually if you display static content. Took 4 years on my C9 and I didn't use it for productivity. I'd wager it would've been half that in the worst conditions. If you're fine with that, then yea, it doesn't get any better than this, otherwise if longevity is a concern and you don't have the patience to babysit your display stay away from it.
Question for someone experienced with many OLEDs: I tried the MSI MPG 321 URX OLED for about 3 weeks and kept getting crazy headaches & eye strain to the point that I had to return it. Going back to my IPS monitor fixed it. My guess is the issue is with the crazy contrast levels (searing white next to pitch black for example). I tried reducing the brightness to minimum, reducing the white balance, enabling night mode etc, all with only minimal improvements. Do you expect that I'd have the same issue with every oled monitor? Logically I would assume yes, but I've been using OLED phone screens for years with no problem, so I'm not sure why the display caused me so much trouble
@@markshenefelt7611Asus is stupid by doing that. HDR is not about being THE BRIGHTEST SPOT but representing these highlight peaks accurately which also can produce 1000 nits. HDR Game + APL HIGH mode on FO32U2P may be somewhat useful for people who play in daylight scenarios (HDR is best experienced in dark room anyway, no matter if you have TV or oled monitor) but still, my recommendation would be: HDR (deafult) + APL Medium/High = Movies/Games
Wow, that sRGB mode! Finally a high end monitor with color accuracy worthy of it's price. If only it was a bit cheaper... Though the results in the TFT Central review are drastically different (pretty bad) for some reason... Maybe I was too quick to get all excited, I guess...

Hi. Could you please put the size in the thumbnail? It would make it easier for people to find the right video when looking for a specific inch size. Or maybe in the title.
I own non P variant of this Aorus and text clarity is close to Acer Predator xb273k(4k 144Hz,27 inch), but not there yet. What is best on this new monitors, from my point of view, is colors. On Predator at 144Hz I was limited to 8 bit 444 chroma, to get 8 bit Full RGB should run at 98HZ, not even at 120Hz. With this Aorus FO32U2 can run 10 bit Full RGB 240Hz and my eyes are more happy, yeah I know refresh rate and so on, but for me colors are more important in games if can run them over 144Hz.
Hard to justify 1500 euros for an 32" OLED tech especially with so many disadvantages. I keep my monitors for at least 5-7 years... and use them for both gaming and office but this is just not something that will live that long. Will wait for a better tech.
there not in stock in the USA either. The only one I've seen in stock in the US is the LG 32in 4K 240hz/1080p 480hz monitor. and that's because its the most overpriced without the features to justify it, and has no burn-in warranty. Is DP2.1 required for the daisy chaining? The documentation on DP daisy chain that I can find is pretty sparse. Will the daisy chain carry HDR and G-Sync all the way down the chain or does only work on the first monitor or does it simply not work at all? Nobody seems to know. Might you do a video on these integrated KVMs? If you wanted to do a multi-monitor setup using Daisy Chain (say 3 monitors), can one monitor's kvm control all three? How well would it work for gaming? I looked up the specs of Gigabyte Aorus FO32U2P, and while the 2 DP INPUTS are 2.1, the output (for daisy) is only 1.4, would that limit multi monitor gaming performance in any way? Would the best multi monitor config still be to connect each monitor up separately to the graphics card and have to change the input for a multi-computer multi-monitor setup separately???

i really like u're detailed videos. But as the name of this channel is monitors unboxed, i would expect to test a wider range of monitors. Not just gaming monitors, especially OLED in the near past. For example there was released the Dell UltraSharp U2724DE, which is discussed a lot. Most people doesnt play games only with his monitor. So this one could be nice option for both worlds even it has the IPS Black Panel. Another new Monitor is the MSI MAG274QRFDE-QD E2. Great Option because its has PD 65W in this price class.
More people are interested in OLEDs and gaming monitors than an office monitor from Dell. If you want reviews of those, maybe TFT Central would have you covered.

I'd love it if we could see a thorough analysis of black crush on these OLED monitors. I have the AW3423DWF and the amount of black crush in dark scenes is really bad. It makes playing dark games like Returnal or Control really hard to see anything in since the shadow detail is completely lost and all you can see is pure black. I can fix it by raising the brightness or white point, but then that ruins detail in brighter scenes and can make things look blown out overall. I think black crush will be the #1 thing I look at the next time I buy an OLED monitor.
I think your missing the point of OLED. OLED is advertised as have the deepest blacks because of the per pixel dimming they can be completely black, which is what many want with it because most monitors give off a slight gray glow on all "blacks" which is probably what you are used to since it will allow you to see those dark areas more.

Could we get testing for input latency at various typical refresh rates? I ordered the MPG 271QRX MSI based on the channel’s recommendation, just to find out it has ridiculously more input latency than the Alienware 2725df at 120hz and 60hz. RTINGs saved me from being stuck with it
It's possible DP 2.1 graphics cards will unlock ALL features on these monitors even with DSC on. The reason it doesn't work now is if using DSC utilizes more bandwidth than possible on one port it internally uses two monitor ports. If they release 360 or 480hz variants though those will not work under any circumstance even full DP 2.1
Has anyone confirmed that there are no other differencies between FO32U2 and FO32U2P besides the displayport 2.1? There is even flickering if I'm getting 180 fps constantly (forza horizon 5 max settings 4k dlss quality and fg on) and when I limit them to 120, there is still flickering. In all games capping the fps makes the flickering worse. I also tried setting the Framerate of the monitor on 120 in windows settings. But that makes the colors and blacks washed out and doesn't fix the flickering. For example. Go and drive a supra mk4 in forza horizon 5. Drive a little bit... There is flickering all over the fitting. Stop the car and look at the fitting like the steering wheel... It's flickering. Now turn Gsync off... It's gone... BUT I want to use gsync so turning it off is no solution! If anyone knows something how to fix the flickering with the asus Rog Swift PG32UCDM... Please message me here.
Upgrading won't fix the "issue" because the game have hickups which result in "flicker" Its game engine itself if its unstable with such an high end PC that you have. Also VRR off is also a quick fix to reconsider.
@@MrM-dl5zm Turning off G-Sync is not a solution. And it couldn't be possible that it flickers all the time in darker areas, even with a stable (capped) framerate. Or am I wrong? Why is there no thing like vrr control which is available on the Samsung Oled neo G9? It fixes the flickering completely... Would be an easy fix... Is it too much work for the price to add vrr control? It is too expensive to have these problems. VRR is an important thing (for me and many other people)... And a trick like the new "oled anti flicker" that is supported by the new 27 inch model is an absolute joke. It reduces the range of vrr from 60-240 to 120-240.
