LOVE this body style (10th generation) F-Series! Very sleek looking. Which got me into buying a brand new 2003 SVT Lightning 18 years ago. It only has 38,774 miles on it, mint condition.
Right? Ford only did this on the 97 year model. 98 and up the exhaust went over the axle. I had a 97 and when I brought it to a muffler shop, they said obviously its had exhaust work before it exits out the side before the axle. I said no, its stock, they didn't believe me haha
Just bought a 97 f150 Lariat 4.6 5 speed 2wd reg cab short bed.. very rare truck from what I found out. All power options and leather seats, ice cold ac! Runs and drives perfect! Love these trucks. But I'm doing a lightning engine swap with a 6 speed. Just a daily driver /travle truck.
Now that is a rare! A manual 5speed with the 4.6! I wanna get one. I almost bought one in 2019 cause I thought it was a good price for the miles but I think it had like 170k.. i soon changed my mind because I was told the odometer didn't work
The 10th gen F150's were very good trucks, very tough, durable, and still very simple trucks for the most part. The 11th gens got waaaay more complicated and much heavier as well. Man I really want a 10th gen like this, 4.6 with a 5 speed and 4wd, those are very hard to find
@@butters5098 wow really? I didn’t know that actually. Personally though the V8 to me makes more sense in a truck than a V6 does, plus it sounds a hell of a lot better.
@@hilljackzack7284 yea I’m not joking either it’s in the owners manual and the towing capacity and the 4.2s are much more reliable than the 4.6 a 4.2 auto can whoop a 4.6 manual but I’m not a fan of a v6 in a half ton lol
@@butters5098 let’s be honest... the 5.4 was the best engine for this truck. The other two were just run it till it dies engines and the 5.4 was the engine you keep alive and continue to fix the truck and keep it good. Personally I’ve never been a big fan of the 4.6 myself other then I like the ones with manual trans because they’re very rare.
@@hilljackzack7284 THAT I agree with yes the 5.4 is powerful and the best engine for it and here where I’m at they ain’t so bad my friend got a 5.4 lariat and a 98 4.6 manual that the motor is blown but still runs it’s loud lmao
I bought this truck new in 1997. Same color and everything. Loved it, but got married in 98 and my wife didn't want to learn to drive stick and we needed an SUV, so sold it. One issue we had was the alternator got plugged with mud when I had to drive through a washed out dirt road in maybe 6 inches of water. There was no protection in the wheel well to keep the mud and water from going right at the alternator. I had to have it towed 100 miles to the dealer to have them fix. They covered it, but gave me crap about it. Don't advertise a truck being "Ford Tough" if a short run through 6 inches of water and mud takes it out.
I have the 4.2 and the 5 speed. I have been repeatedly told that I am lucky not to have the Triton. The only thing I wish I had was 4x4 but I couldn't afford it when I bought it.
Just got a 1997 reg cab step side 4x4 4.6 with a 5 speed manual trans and only 70,000 miles! The throwout bearing was bad and so it sat for 10 years lol. I changed bearing, clutch, flywheel and swapped the fuel tank and injectors out with a junkyard one ...started right up first crank and runs great. Unfortunately theres a good amount of surface rust everywhere but not bad at all considering i live in hawaii. I did have to change the brake hardlines as the rear rusted so bad it was leaking. I put a 3" body lift with some stock rims off a ram 1500 and 34" mt's (1.5" wheel adapters to 5x5.5) Plan to do a 6" zone suspension lift with 37s. I did the sound system and led lights swapped out everywhere, just need to paint it....im thinking that dark toyota cement looking grey....or a dark magma red...like almost black red. Ac is cold! And seats look brand new!
@@dentondunn4346 yes just put in N then shift the transfer case into 4h or 4l then put tranny back in gear, at least thats how i do it, im sure you can do it with the trans in gear and clutch pushed in 🤷🏽♂️
I have a similar looking pickup. 2000 single cab step side with the 4.2 5 speed same color 4x2 with hand crank windows. I need to sell it bec I just don’t have a use for the old gal much anymore. Rust free Montana pickup.
@@smallgreentreefrog if you look on the driver side door there’s a sticker with your VIN# and other info. If you can pass me the paint code I’d be happy. Should be 3-4 letters
