I love how women are presented in this sequence as competent, intelligent and professional without the need for the narrative to demean, belittle or tear down any of the male characters. This was 50 years ago, and still seems to far outshine things made today. For instance, Leia is presented with a sarcastic yet fair question by a male colleague during a strategic briefing. Without belittling an officer, Leia seems to instinctively understand that an incorrect answer would be to demean him and lower morale by retorting. Instead, she shows real leadership by simply continuing the briefing while answering his question, which means she's asserting her authority by not outright arguing with the pilot, not interrupting her own briefing during a situation where little time is available and also answering his question all at the same time. The male officer's question is based on logic, as in "Okay, I'm following you, but our plan presents this issue." - He's looking out for the safety of his pilot colleagues by raising a huge issue with Leia's plan because he doesn't know that she's already about to lay out a solution. You can also throw in that he probably has pre-battle nerves and that perhaps the sarcastic attitude is his way of dealing with it, or perhaps this is the way he is used to talking to colleagues of the same rank. Also note that Leia is new to this specific leadership role, and so probably has yet to prove her capability which is why he's questioning her. A pilot doesn't deal with rubbish because it's life or death, and moreover, the life/death of the Alliance if they succeed/fail, so he's rather blunt about it. They all accept her plan as presented when she shows that it is logical and sound. The pilot tested her authority by confronting her and she then asserted it. She knows they share the same goal and that the safety of their colleagues is extremely important to both of them. There is also the female officer located at the Ion Canon control station, shown to be coordinating with the others at shield control, which is a very senior position. She's presented as a very focused person. She understands that lives are at risk and so she is completely focused on her task so that everyone can evacuate the base safely. She almost never takes her eyes off of her planetary display panel because she knows that people are depending on her timing for the best results. Leia also stands at the ready, in the leadership position while observing the status of the evacuation but also not micro-managing her officers, trusting them enough to seemingly only need to step in to provide more focus and guidance. She also demands that they get to safety as soon as their jobs are done, risking her own life in the process and only leaving when Han Solo physically pulls her away from the control room to her own safety. They have a leader, but work collectively as a team while trusting each other's intelligence. The presence of women in roles demanding competence and leadership is shown to be incidental. They don't have to prove anything about why they are there as they are simply the best people for those roles. As a result, the viewer also trusts them and the philosophy is proven to be a correct one once they succeed. You can extrapolate all of this complexity from only a few short scenes. This was 50 years ago guys. We did it right at that point and we can do it again if we actually try.

After Fan's suffered through Last Jedi, this eternal Classic look's and feels better than before. The Rebels fights brave and smart, but the Empire is unstoppable. Eternal Law, real Hero's need strong Enemies. And a real Star Wars Collector can't live peacefully without an AT AT .

Preach brotha!! No matter which side you're on, it IS an OBJECTIVELY BAD movie....I mean the questionable tactics by the Rebels? er I'm sorry, the RESISTANCE? the dumb childish dialogue? the slow ass chase? Haldo being a shit leader and brow beating Poe for no good reason? no arc for Rey as she's a Mary Sue! and worst of all, that movie turned the one of the greatest heroes in pop culture, Luke Skywalker, into a broken down hermit who GAVE UP! what in the blue hell!??!?!

@@PrometheusOfVideos Not fair, you forget that this Crime of a Movie turns Finn from a real new Character with so much Potential to a useless Comedy relief Guy, wasted everything that could make Rose ' unwanted Chinese Girl' a real Character ( for Example, she could be the Mechanic that takes care for Finn after he lost his Arm on Star Killer Base and gives him a new one ) , throws the NR. One Villain away like Anakins Light Saber, got the most stupid group Fight ever ( the dancing and weapon dropping Moll Guard's) and steals without shame from masterpieces. The Battle of Not Hoth and , even more shocking, the ' we forget to refill our fuel ⛽, hero can us the magic power after one minute and parking in a no parking area from Space Balls.

Pretty sure this is an updated version of the movie cause I remember Dak just getting zapped by the speeder itself. If this is a recent version it definitely fits better that he got blasted instead of just dying outta nowhere.

Masterful film making. 44 years later, and we are given The Acolyte.... The original 3 plus Rogue one, Alien & Alien's are the only reason I still have D+ subscription, I'd rather watch the made for TV Ewok adventures than some of the recent tripe.

if the rebels knew that imperial walkers existed, why were they so unprepared to address the threat of heavy armor? And why would the speeders (or preferably, some type of ship with higher firepower, the x-wings perhaps?) not engage the walkers before they tromped into firing range of the base? Made for cool effects for the walkers to just appear on the horizon, but for a society that tracks ships across solar systems, they seemed woefully unprepared to defend their own base.

- The Rebels were an irregular force with little industry of their own. They had to fight with what they had. They most they had was light antitank guns. - The Rebels weren't trying to defend their own base; they were trying to delay the Empire long enough to evacuate it. - The X-wings and Y-wings were being used on the Rebels' actual objective: evacuating the base. Escorting the transports was far more important than strafing ground forces. - There wasn't time to load the speeders onto the transports, (stated by medical droid and Luke in film), so might as well use them - T-47s were specially modified to withstand the cold atmosphere. The fighters were not. While the Battle of Hoth was a tactical victory for the Empire, it was a strategic failure. Their objective was to destroy the Rebellion as a fighting force, and too many of them got away. By escaping, the Rebels lived to fight another day.
