I purchased PL990X from Anon-co $235.00 include Fedex shipment and took 3 days to Korea from Ware house at HongKong Tecsun PL990X official lunch date : 20th Sep 2020 PL990 and Pl990x has difference at tuning step and range
LW signal leakage only observed when external antenna is heavily overloaded. This can be blocked mostly with simply change antenna selection to External. If sill bleed, antenna gain control managed rest of portion. There must be high static condition when this video is recorded
I picked up the PL-990x last week, great radio, paid $242 shipped at Anon-Co. could’ve bought the PL-909 for $169 new off of eBay but figured the “X” version was a better option, glad I went that way. I still enjoy the Sangean ATS-909x2 though but, it’s a great radio to add to the collection.
Very good review, shows the full operation on aerial and external antenna = I'm just amazed that other reviews did nit try the ATS on FM nor mention the line out for recording!
Another great ASMR unboxing. This radio looks and sounds great; however, I cannot do non-standard batteries. I wish SW radio mfgs would use a 12v standard so I can use the same external battery sources I do for my ham radios.
hi. great and encouraging video. I just bought it. But I would like a big favor from him. Would it be possible to make a very explanatory video about the external antenna you use on your PL 990 x? I want to have one too.
I REALLY like the no static on this Radio on stronger signals . Super clear . Also the speaker sounds closer to the bigger speaker on PL880. Some have said 880 has better speaker . You have a very nice version of PL 990 !
Good afternoon! Thank you very much for your review. A very good radio. Can you tell me what is the hole to the right of the power button? It looks like a microphone. Or I'm wrong?
Yes it is. Microphone is used when you pair it with Bluetooth with your phone or PC. Or it is also used when you connect the receiver via USB to your PC. When connected it is used as an external sound card.
Why have you pointed out that this is NOT a review of the Tecsun PL-990 ? They are identical, the only difference being the tuning steps outside the USA.
I am interested to see if the PL990X with an external antenna or AM loop is a good DXer for AM Broadcasts ( including listening to them - not just audible but listenable ) . And also the FM - more practically - listening to a larger number of stations where they may have interesting Music or Programming.
Sorry to say. Korea is shutting down AM stations and only few left. I will try AM dxing when I have change but would not be good example since only few stations can be picked up. Will try!. FM demo, I can do that.
@@robertscorpio8432 I have not tested SYNC yet and dont expect that much since I do not use often. Also did not had much chance to dxing adjacent frequency. But from other youtuber, it is still horrible as PL880..
@@kor_dxer5532 Thanks for the response . I did notice that your 990X seems to have lower noise floor than PL 880 - on most broadcast . Is this correct ? Seems better shielded .
sad to see this at LW with the PL-990 ... same issue with my PL-360 (but is way cheaper) ... once i connect external antenna (only for MW/LW) at pl-360, other ghost stations kicks in, which should not exist (at blank freqs) ... however the freqs with the correct LW radio stations are fine ... just at LW some freqs appearing ghost stations with external antenna ... still thinking positive for the 990 because at LW many other branded radios have issues there ... EDIT the tuning beep appears and at my pl-360 in some cases ... and by the way thanks for sharing the video at 4K as well
I have discovered a major issue with the 990x on SSB on the higher bands. Example tune to some SSB speech on 27.385 Mhz LSB or USB horrible DSP Warbling / wobble not to be confused with AGC issue on the oscillator seems to be the whole top end of the band on SSB rendering SSB useless possibly 25 to 29 MHZ however AM seems ok. Going to be a whole lot of disappointment owner's when the solar cycle comes up opening the top bands. I Believe this was an issue with some early 880's
990x is better. It is much superior over 330, it has optical smooth encoders instead of rough mechanical in 330, it has triple IF transformation (330 has no IF at all), so receiving quality and sensitivity is way much better, and no noisy interruptions with clicking sounds when scrolling and changing frequency. It also has fine tune knob, sdcard player, Bluetooth and PC external sound card features.
@@robertscorpio8432 you just can change to one or the other ... radio will use either treble or bass depending which mode you want to swap via the side button
@@kor_dxer5532 Ah OK on the PL880 there is little difference between Bass and Treble - but PL990 has larger difference - so for music Bass ...for DX or SW SSB probably bright is better - correct ? Some also say PL 880 gets too muddy on bass setting - have never tried 880.
@@robertscorpio8432 that and selectivity. Whenever you multiply the frequency of local MW stations by 2 or 3 and tune that you can still hear them on the Tecsuns and Degen. Never had that problem on my Sony radios. Not to mention the Sync on tecsuns, even on the 660 is practically deaf in comparison. That said I really like the clean DSP and loud crip speaker of the 990x.
