4K looks so beautiful in 1080p

You can't compare it using two difference devices shooting at different res. You need to use the same device like Galaxy Note 3, shoot it in 4K and then shoot it again in 1080p.

the funny part about this video is it not 4k it 1080p

having a 4k camera output in 1080p looks so crisp. Look at the branches on the trees. the CMOS on a 4k camera can clearly see more which is not being lost during encoding. The camera on that Galaxy note 3 is absolutely amazing for its size.

I'll show this to anybody who says 1080p and 4K don't make any difference on a 1080p screen! Great comparison!

I'm sure 4k is better than 1080p, but 1080p didn't look as sharp as it normally does. It was like a corny infomercial that makes the old look dated and cumbersome, and makes the new seem godly and fantastic just to get everybody to switch. I'm pretty sure 1080p looks better than portrayed here.

Comparing the two shows something that most people wouldn't care to admit: When higher resolutions are down-sampled to lower resolutions, the quality is so much better than if it was recorded at the same resolution. This is why the best recording studios use 96kHz sampling rate for recording audio; Not because they are audiophiles, but becuase they comprehend that 96kHz will bring a much better sound when down-sampled to 44.1kHz or 48kHz for the consumer. There are less aliasing artifacts and greater resolution over the high frequency content. I can't wait for 8k Super Hi-Vision HD. Apparently NHK in Japan are going to start supporting 7680x4320 resolution by 2016. There doesn't seem to be a point to paying out of the pocket for 4k HD when 8k is just around the corner.

THIS IS AMAZING. I couldn't tell the difference between a 4k setting and 1080HD setting at first on RU-vid, but holy shit. 4K MAKES EVERYTHING LOOK 100X MORE BEAUTIFUL AND CLEAR. It was so satisfying seeing the comparisons. Thank you!

Although RU-vid compresses videos to 1080p @30FPS the colours on 4K look astonishing

Tell me again why we need anything thats further then HD? I mean, how much fucken detail to people want? I really dont want that much detail to the point where I can see the tiniest of cracks on the walls or the little ants walking on the ground........really 4k is just a moneygrabber

More details on the left side (Note3) in every shot, even resampled and compressed. It's obvious, nothing to argue here. And it's amazing, knowing it has that 2mm pinhole of an "objective".

come on guys... I am getting the impression that light control made of the difference than resolution. For instance in some shorts the amount of light being more for the Samsung 4k resulted in a washed out sky and clouds, but more detail in the 1080 with the sky and clouds showing. With a wider aperture for the Canon there would be less difference. I think if one was trying to imitate the 4k footage with the 1080 there would be less difference as they would allow more light in. Or maybe its because i am viewing on a lousy screen... but wait! Most people watch on SD TVs anyway. For now 4k is far from necessary ... wait till its cheaper guys.

looking at it side by side is like seeing a beautiful painting with your eyes on the left, and on the right, the same painting has been converted to a .jpeg and bit-crushed.

Does this makes any sense? Video quality is about a lot of factors: lens, exposure, sensor size, focus, compression, even temperature and so on

I find pretty interesting and scarring how now cellphones have better resolution than many profesional cameras. And I am talking about resolution only. You can really notice the difference in sharpness between both footages. Awesome demonstration.

Yeah it's insane how much difference there is. I'm getting a 4k TV, and I've been downloading 4k material, and wow, even on a 1080p tv, it's insane how much sharper video is. Either the capture method just allows for a WAY better video, or the downsampling creates better detail, but it's night and day between 4k and 1080p even on a 1080p tv. Not something I'd have expected to be honest.

In order to view something a video properly, it has to be filmed & created like that. Since the second half was in 1080p that means the highest this could've been uploaded in is 1080. Simple as that

In my opinion, 4k is good for photography, and films. 1080p, is good for casual filming, so it actually looks like your there, because otherwise it would be to good to be true. but films, your not supposed to think that there is a camera, your supposed to imagine that your there, and that is real, so it must be the best quality that it can be. (unless animated film)

best 4k vs hd comparison i've seen and 4k is simply amazing. BUT I'm still waiting on 8k since content, broadcasting, and broadband won't catch up with 4k anytime soon, i'm certain the industry is going to ditch it for 8k in couple of years.

If anyone is wondering why there isnt that much of a difference even though there is. Its due to the fact that youtube compresses the videos so much, reducing the quality of course. And its showing in 1080 as apose to 4k

If you are doing a comparison of 1080p and 4k. You atleast have to use same camera on both. It would have been a huge difference if both were in 1080p.

Having 4k vs plasma for me there is a huge difference in 65'' anything less you wouldn't notice it with the naked eye at 6-8 feet. Biggest difference to me is the clarity and brightness watching a remastered blu ray to 4k only makes certain scenes more pleasant to watch and dark scenes come alive- colors pop more than 1080p. Only you can decide if it''s worth it- I would say wait:)

You can't compare it like this. You need to use the same device at both resolutions. Because of this, you can see the sky is definitely much clearer on 1080p and you need to upload the video in 4k.

4k looks slightly better close up, which is to be expected. But on distant shots the difference isn't really that noticeable, again which is to be expected. E.g... you'll not be able to see the individual feathers of a bird from 100 foot away

4k is also about bitrate. watching this on a 1080p monitor with youtube also set to 1080p will still make you see results.

This video was uploaded at 1080p. The 4K (2160p) side isn't really 4K (2160p). I saw later in the comments that you did say the video has a part 2 with 4K (2160p). I'll go check it out.

Those things are getting more expensive every time and the thing is that people don't really need this kind of things but they just want it to show off that they have the most expensive and up to date stuff ,for me 1080 still works wonders and I can't tell the difference unless I use a dam mega zoom

The 4K side is clearly better. The lines around the windows, the edges of the building, everything looks much sharper.

can't watch in 4k on my tablet, but you can definitely tell the difference... the pixels of the 4k are much more dense and are very closely packed into a larger area than the 1080p

This is not "4k (3840 x 2160) versus HD (1920 x 1080)" This is Full HD (1920 x 1080) versus HD (1280 x 720)

The naming conventions I can up with: 2160p - Ultra Definition (quadruple full high definition) 1440p - Mega Definition (quadruple high definition) 1080p - Super Definition (full high definition) 720p - High Definition

lol...I have a mild astigmatism, and my vision blurs at a distance - the honest truth is that even 1080 looks clearer than reality. It's fascinating, but that just dawned on me - the camera captures it far more clearly than my eyes do, and then I watch it pretty close. Before just now, I've always wondered why high resolution always somehow seemed 'off' to me - now I get it! I guess ultra res will just never be my kind of thing. :p

Excellent comparison video. Watched on my 2560x1440 monitor it was simply no contest. The T4i video not only looked soft but showed a lot more moire as well.

Yes, it's rather noticable. On my opinion, Canon wins in all aspects if we talk about professionally looking footage.

I don't find great difference in analysis between hd and 4K analysis.Our eye can't see the difference when the number of pixel is high.I don't think that our eyes can see the difference between a photo from 12 megapixel camera and a photo from 16 megapixel.Also analysis is not the only thing which makes a picture better.There many other thing like saturation,color error,exposure,image noise.The number of pixel is not the only thing which makes a camera better

I think it's a little funny thing to note that 4K actually does look pretty good on a 2K monitor. I must ask, are you showing these pics in a zoom function, cause otherwise I'm trying to figure out how the sharpness of your camera in just regular 1080 fits in this comparison. If you can show us a vid that has everything at 1/2 scale zoom for youtube, that would help a lot.

It is not the camera's resolution as much as the codec and bitrate. Try putting it against an Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera and you will see a BIG improvement :)

Why do the coulours of the buildings seem to be mutch brighter then those of the 1080P version?

I think the difference between the videos is not in resolution but in contrast, maybe OLED are used in 4K screen and LED in HD screen :-P

4k HAS to do with color, 1080p camera's share color information over 4 pixels while 4k also does, but if you size 4k down to 1080p it looks so much better!!

I see a color difference, that's about it. But here's the thing. you're using 2 different devices. also would it matter what resolution it's recorded at? for instance the quality max on youtube is 1080p. and my monitor is set to 1600x900. would i REALLY be able to tell the difference? :p

Im viewing this in 720p hd, and I can already tell the 4k has much more rich coloring detail and fidelity, and of course sharpness!

actually both are taken in diffferent cameras..so how could it be compared..

unfortunatly this video can't show you the full efect because if you are watching this then you are most likely using a 1080p monitor witch can't display all 4k pixels therefore go to a store to compare it

There is no comparison, the 1080p looks so bad it looks like 720p. This is watching it on my Sony 4K 300ES where I have the resolution set at 2160p and now my 18 inch 1080p laptop _ I still can clearly see the difference even though the 4k is being down-scaled to the native resolution of my laptop. Dylan, did you do something to the 1080p side to make it look worse then it really is ?

The only differences i see in most of these photos is the 4k looks brighter and most of the blacks look more greyish than black.

Please, next time try not to shoot with completely different cameras. Resolution has nothing to do with colors but it's the biggest difference in this comparison.
