I was just giving 1996 Chevy OBS and they said the transmission went out so my first thing was thinking to switch to 700r4

@MattLsBr it'll cause it to have a check engine light on and stuff but as long as you hook the TV cable up proper it should work. The biggest reason I did it was because the 700R was free but also because that poor old van isn't worth spending what it would cost to have the '95 specific model 4l60e rebuilt

I am putting a 700r4 into a 78 4x4 and I really appreciate you doing this video to show the installation. Can you tell me how difficult it was to get the TV cable set right?? Once installed did it shift right and were any mods needed? Again, thanks for the video. MK

The TV cable is fairly simple to set up, you might have to make a bracket if you don't already have one but just make sure the the cable is as level and in line with the carb linkage as possible and when you go to set it just hold the button down on the cable and pull the throttle wide open and let off the button. That will roughly set the cable, and it may very well need some fine tuning after that but that should get it close. Also if the truck has different axle gears and stuff than whatever the transmission came out of that can affect how it behaves as well and the only proper "fix" would be changing the governer weights in the transmission itself. For example, under normal throttle the van shifts pretty early because it has 4.56 gears in it and it winds higher faster, with less throttle input.

I'm having problems with my 4 l60e so what you just showed me it's possible to change it out to an old 700 R4 I feel better now cuz even if my check light engine stays on for eternity I care less 10-run hot I'm fine thank you

Yep! It bolts right in place with minimal changes to make it work.

Ive got a 4l60e in currently but i have a 700 r4 so how did you go from the 22 pin plug to the 4 pin was it difficult ? And the vaccum lines ?

The 700R didn't have any vacuum lines, and I just taped the big 22 pin plug out of the way. I operate the torque converter manually with a toggle switch on the dash lol

Does it matter what year the 700r4 is to throw in a 05 chevy silverado you think?

It wouldn't matter, but it would be a lot more difficult to finagle a 700R4 into that new of a truck I think, mostly because of the throttle valve cable and I'm not sure if having the original style 4l60e absent from the computer system would affect how the engine runs or not. But as far as physically bolting in, any year model 700R4 would fit right in far as I know.

@@CrazyWoody1989 thats about what i thought, ill need to send off the ecm to get flashed. ill look in to some throttle bodies. this is the third 4l60e this truck has eaten in 6 months.

@DongKing It might be worth while to look into doing a 4l80 swap on it. Though more costly, a 4l80 is way, way more robust than a 700R4/4l60.
