My name is Brad Wilde I have been rebuilding automatic transmissions for over 30 years. I was factory trained at college and ASE certified in transmissions.
I'm going to watch your 4l80e series over the next few evenings. I got one disabled in my garage and I'm procrastinating on what rebuild kit and parts to order. Glad to see a local guy doing these videos.
Thank you for making and sharing these videos, they have been very informative and helpful. I learned a lot! Question: how do you get your arbor press to act like a vice? I was able to use vice grips on the bottom of the arbor, but I have a feeling whatever you are doing works better.
great videos Brad, I've rebuilt a couple of th350, 700r4 and 4l60e and am looking forward to going through my 80e and probably will use these for reference!
I've seen some recommend a reprogram or shift kit for the valve body (from say, Trans Go) ... not for hard/quick shifts (racing) but for reliability. In one example I saw a spring loaded bypass that fits in the valve body as a protection against high line pressure caused by some other problem. Do you have any opinions about that? I ask because it seems you put the valve body back together as stock. Thanks.
Thx for the time and vid. 1 Guesstimate of miles on trans? 2 Typical wear and tear or is this from abuse/neglect? 3 ~cost for the T+M? 4 What is a good quality rebuild kit? MJ
Brad is it worth the headache putting in a 4l80e in a single cab silverado instead of a 4l60e im on my third 60e this last one i spent 2200 bucks for a supposedly built 60e.
It's a lot of work. 4L80 is longer. you'll have to have both drive lines rebuilt. If your going through 4L60's one of two things are happening. the people rebuilding the transmission are not doing a good job or you are very hard on your transmission. It doesn't matter what is done to a transmission no one can make it bullet proof. sorry about it. Good luck.
I'm not sure what brand the bushings are I just get what ever the warehouse has in stock there is not that many company's the make bushings . Arbor press is a 3 ton delta. you can find them at any local industrial supply store.
