I traded an 18 TRD off road Tacoma for a 24 4Runner TRD Pro. I had the taco for 6 years, zero problems. I averaged 20 mpg. I had a fusion on my neck, s5 to s7. The taco was hard to get in and the driving position sucks. The 4Runner has a taller opening and is easier to get into, for me. I average 17 mpg with the 4Runner. This is a NO bad choice situation. I paid 40k for the taco and got 30k for the trade in. The 4Runner is more comfortable but I liked the Taco better when off roading. Buy the one that meets your needs and enjoy.

I've had my '23 Tacoma TRD OR Pemieum for a year and a half now and am happy with it. Honestly, I 2nd guessed my decision compared to the 4Runner. I have a '24 4Rnr TRD OR as a rental and it is very nice but I honestly don't see the claims that the 4RNR is the nicer vehicle. Both are great and I think the need of the SUV compared to the truck should be the deciding factor. The 4rnr does have more rear seat comfort.

My 4runner does have mts, it doesn't look like what you showed on the video, I wonder if they changed that in newer models

The 4Runner trails, off roads, and pros have mts. He even pointed to it and yes it’s called mts. Awkward miss for a Toyota focused channel.
@yotaxpedition
@yotaxpedition Год назад
The Tacoma is clearly labeled MTS where the 4Runner is not. The 4Runner has an A-Trac button where the Tacoma does not. Based off that we figured the knob adjustment was for the A-Trac on the 4Runner. Both do the same thing essentially just activated differently.
@mrseebs6148
@mrseebs6148 Год назад
@@yotaxpedition No, they are not essentially the same thing...A-Trac (the button) is independent from MTS (that knob you pointed at). A-Trac works essentially as a faux differential locker. A-TRAC use the computer braking system to apply the breaks on a free spinning wheel or wheels. This forces power and torque to the opposing wheels which has contact with the ground to give it traction and get you out of a stuck situation. Where A-TRAC uses the computer braking system to optimize traction, MTS (Multi Terrain Select) primarily uses throttle control to tune the system for different terrains. It will engage A-TRAC if needed, but not always. For example, in some off-road situations, wheel slipping can be helpful and MTS allows limited slipping depending on the terrain selected. This slipping is controlled primarily by throttle control but if slipping becomes excessive or the vehicle encounters a free spinning wheel then A-TRAC is engaged automatically. MTS sand and mud can even be used in 4H, where as A-Trac requires 4L. I love your channel and shop, but again its kind of surprising no one on your team corrected this part of the video or read the owners manual.

Appreciate the feedback, obviously you know more about this topic. We honestly haven't used it enough to understand it fully. We know how to use it, but not the technical facts about it. Always something to learn. I personally come from 90s Toyotas and all the electronics in the new ones is a bit much.

@@yotaxpedition For sure. 4runners can be intimidating at first but they are pretty simple compared to a lot of modern vehicles. Nowadays, everything is in the infotainment system which is just crazy to me. I like my buttons :D

What is the difference between A TRAC and crawl control?
@NaijaBoiTellEm
@NaijaBoiTellEm 11 месяцев назад
In simple terms: A-TRAC will brake a wheel that is spinning in order to shift power from one side of the axle to another. Crawl Control essential allows a driver to focus on nothing but turning the steering wheel, as Crawl Control will take care of the gas and braking.

the fuel economy figures on the Tacoma are bogus - have had many friends with Tacom'as that will testify to that. I had this dillema as well this Monday (wanted to get rid of a defective/junk '23 F150 that i had) i ended up with the 4runner for 3 reasons 1) 1GR and A750 5 speed - legendary combination that has been proven to last well past 300k miles (many i believe have gone past 500k miles on the original engine/trans without any major work) - the 2GR on the other hand has a checkered past and the 6 speed auto in the tacoma hunts and just generally doesn't drive well imo 2) the 4runner has a fully boxed frame which is essentially a hilux frame with coil sprung rear its built in the same plant as the landcruiser, hilux and other world renowned truck and build quality is 2nd to none. 3)after driving full size trucks for years - the 4runner turning radius was heaven to me and the tacoma turning radius was just terrible 4) Break over angle .... this is HUGE if your going to be offroading the 4runner has a MUCH better break over angle (as well as other metrics) than the Tacoma. My only downside is not having a bed - but its a tradeback - if i need to haul anything i don't wnat inside the 4runner i'll just get a cheap utility trailer to do so my experience is if your not using your bed for work you will rarely use it outside of work so just get a cheap utility trailer for those moments. If the tacoma was still sold with the 1GR i would have had a really hard time justifying the 4runner - but for me its a no brainer in terms of reliablity/durability the 1GR is a FAR superior engine than the 2GR .

@@yotaxpedition I think if you watched AutomotivePress's video on 4runner build quality and why its one of (if not the) best built vehicles we can buy today - it will really make you realize how special the 4runner really is. Everything is the step above, fit finish, quality of material, quality of paint - panel fitment etc.
