After two years of owning, building + living in our self converted 4x4 Sprinter Van, its high time for us to get this vid out there!
We did our best in this vid, to show our beautiful hand made home + detail gear we used + love - all authentically tried + tested by us.... we hope it helps you build or add to your camper.
Our home is a LWB 516 (5 tonne) 2013 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter.... with an amazing amount going on - 4 BELTED TRAVEL SEATS, 4 BERTH with FIXED BEDS, toilet, outdoor shower, ceramic hob cooker, STACKS of storage, plus an abundance of character ♡

In 2019, we (Martin & Kate) decided to sell our home of 2 years, a Ford Roller Team motorhome + fully converted a 2013 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter van to our new family home + fully off grid adventure wagon..... whilst all living in it!!
The self build allowed us to create a unique space personalised to meet our specific needs.... it's been perfect + taken us to some sensational places.
This van has been our full time + only home and we've driven across much of Europe in all seasons.... really putting our build + gear we used through it's paces.

That was totally part of the criteria, we wanted to fit the bikes inside the van and have fixed beds all round. It worked perfect for us at the time 👌

I have been trying to figure out a bed situation for my daughter & I. I am happy to see your video because this side by side bunk bed idea is perfect. It allows us to lift the beds & still have a garage for bikes

Awesome - that’s 100% how we ended up with this layout, the kiddos desperately wanted to have their bikes + wanted to keep them inside the van.... we had a bike rack on our first motorhome - even with regular maintenance the bikes got trashed (sea spray, dust, rain, mud you name it!).... honestly the Sprinter storage was another level - when we emptied it to move into our new wagon we were amazed!

An amazing van build well done. When we had our van the main problem was finding wild camping in England, we dont think much of many UK campsites. Not good being asked to move on. We had the same problem on our canal boat where we had to move every 14 days.

Thanks so much, it sure was homely for us… just needed to magic it bigger 💚 For sure uk is harder to find parkups than anywhere we’ve been… but never been moved on there, reckon we’ve been ‘officially’ moved on about 4 times in now our 6th year (2 times in 2020) 🚍 We see you have chooks in your profile photo… love them, we used to have hundreds - we do miss this side, but enjoy our farm sits 🐣 🌿🌳 🐓 🪺 🦆

Been finding ways of incorporating bunk beds along with a bed for me and wife and I love the idea you have came up with. Three questions: 1- We have three children under the age of 10 do you think we could add another tier to that bunk bed system? 2- How did you make that separation wall so strong to hold both the bunk beds and the main bed. 3- Where would you suggest putting a fridge if we wanted to add one. Very clever setup you have come up with. Well done.

Travs, we seem to have missed your message. So first of all thank you for your message and your appreciation for our build. To be totally honest we think it would be too tight to try to get a third bunk in a sprinter of this size, remember you have to go above the wheel arch for a start which lessons your height. The partitioned wall is made of 3”x2” wooden frame, would be easier to draw But if you imagine a big square frame with a beam across the middle at the height of the bed. Then we put Battons in vertically about 4” apart screwed in top and bottom for rigidity. Looked like a jail cell, then cladding on top. You could fit a fridge under the main bed if you wanted to. As we lived in ours space was very much of a premium than if you just used it to get away here and there. Hope this helps 👍

That diesel heater air intake/exhaust combination at 7:32 seems like an interesting idea for preheating the air. Any chance you remember where you got it? That air intake is solely used for combustion, or also to heat up and spread in the van? If the latter, never had an issue with bad air inside?

The air intake/exhaust came with our wallas XC duo heater. It is on a closed loop system to the combustion chamber so the air into and out of the unit never goes into the living space of the van. It is a cleverly designed little unit, the air intake pulls in around the exhaust tube itself, this preheats the air going into the combustion chamber. Hope this helps.

Cheers Jacob - we totally love the colour for sure... we didn’t know how it would hold up initially - it’s now survived over 18mths of our family full time... mud, sand, water, hiking boots, strikes from all sorts being chucked on the step... that’s a pretty good test.

Cheers, it was definitely a homely home for us 💚 food in the kitchen cupboards which doubled as a pantry being a cool part of the van, plus loads of room behind the rear travel seats. Any surplus could easily fit in the garage, but we rarely needed to utilise that 👍

We’re now on our third van + all have been really different from one another... all have their pros + cons for sure. Reckon the only thing we would change is taking the leap to nomadic life sooner than we did - but things play out in their own way + we’re just so grateful we are where we are now ✌️

The 7.5t Iveco Race Cruiser has been home for coming up 3.5years now. Documented a fair bit of footage, so far around uk, across Europe and around Turkiye 🚍

You wouldn't want to be worried about sleeping in confined spaces with those beds..... do 2 adults fit in the 'double bed'? It looks like you would both need to sleep on your sides... I seen a different layout for a family of 5 in a van, they had triple bunks alongside the kitchen with the back converting from a dinette, to Queen bed and also lounge area. Much better use of space than this..... it's too pokey.

We go away most bank holidays and half terms in our caravan (just back from Norfolk yesterday) and always looking for better ways of packing things into the van! Both of my kids are autistic and only have overhead lockers over their bunks for their clothes and they are often pulling everything out that I’ve neatly packed in there so this will hopefully work better 🙏🏻

Great question... we have not had one for over 18mths - our solar is decked out to easily power a compression fridge/freezer, we just never got around to getting the unit... rather be travelling! So we eat a lot of fresh food + canned beans, pulses, lentils etc are useful, plus, by accident, our cupboards make the best pantry!... being low and having a gap between the van wall + the unit - this area keeps cool 👍

We had no refrigerator for over 18mths - the bottom of the kitchen unit ended up working amazing as a pantry... we eat a lot of fresh food - which also meant buying every 2-3days (esp in summer) ☀️ Food + belongings - as we say in the vid, we were moving out into our new rolling home... so a lot of our stuff was already out - our lifestyle offers the most INCREDIBLE education, we have internet access facilitating endless resources, plus books + creative materials ✌️
