Nicely Done. I am remodeling my Class A and your backsplash is giving me ideas. All of my cabinitry is solid Oak so I won't be changing it. Plan is to polish it up and reseal it all. But some years ago my refrigerator/ freezer went out on us and required replacement. Of course the new one had bigger dimensions so the beveled Oak panel inserts on the doors didn't fit back. So I replaced the R/F doors with whiteboard and it has served us well for posting notes and grocery list. But, that white board is a real contrast to the rest of the Coaches interior and I will be looking at these viynl pieces to see if I can find a perfect Oak paneling match. That or I'll just go buy more $ Oak$ paneling. I like how you managed to use most of the Boxes interior. That stuff is far superior to RV Cabinetry. Have been talking to the wife about looking for a 4X4 Freightliner Ambulance to replace my aging Hot Rodded Class A, but your conversion on the van body is intrieging. I haul a Rock Crawler and dirt bikes with us, so it would be nice to get a little farther off the beaten paths to set up camp.

Finally someone that's re-making the ambulance look inside! I've seen several videos where they just leave it as is and nearly completely find ways to work around it, fitting a microwave here, and adding a sink there... What I'm wondering about is the feasibility of essentially a COMPLETE tear out of the back interior to accomodate my custom build better, which would in turn get you further down the line to a new look inside with, say, tongue and groove walls and custom cabinets... Would you agree all the exterior doors opening into the cavities could be picked and chosen from as to which to keep, and simply take out the enclosure on the inside, and essentially have a door to nowhere??? Obviously, some would warrant use even in a new layout, such as getting access to a new wiring panel, or keeping the original tank storage area as many do to repurpose it for propane, or using one for access to water storage, pump, etc.... But from what you've seen, any reasons any of the original interior buildout can't be removed???

Very useful to see how this is done professionally! Esp the heat gun finished edge. The tiles look lovely. One could easily get creative with the glass. Add dark black paper behind the glass, or mirrored window film for a mirror look or tinted film for a smoked glass look. Lots of creative room here. For those who want real tile on walls, here are my tips: Use only on small spaces not large wall areas Use small mosaic size at 2 inch max size, and 1/8" thickness which will cut down weight. Use Schluter Kerdi board or Kerdi membrane for waterproofing. This takes mortar on top. Mix Polymer with the Thinset Mortar Mix Polymer or Grout Maximizer (MAPEI product) with the Grout which is a built in sealer. Both the polymers rubberize the mortar and grout so they absorb shock better and don't pop out. Use MAPEI mortar, grout polymer and Maximizer - all available at Lowes only. This is an Italian company and they make good products at reasonable prices. Tile for bathroom floor should be non skid type. No need to seal and reseal grout lines yearly if you mix the Maximizer into grout. Seals it permanently.

Hi, I am converting a 1998 E-450 ambulance and I am trying to find reference videos/pages on what people do with the electrical wiring, and in general what buttons do what, right now I'm just messing around trial by error. Do you know of any sources for info?
@protint4467
@protint4467 6 лет назад
I don’t have any recommendations on a source for the wiring. Mine was full functional when I bought it and that made it easy to know what did what. Sorry I wasn’t any help but I wish you good luck on your build!

I have a 2005 E450. I'm having difficulty finding info as well. I have to install the inverter and then I should be able to use the house batteries separately. I do know that without the inverter, everything works when the ambulance is running.(thats promising) I have debated redoing my electrical system to make more room, but I decided I will leave it as is because it is already built to handle a lot . My biggest joy was learning about the isolater. lol

I used this product to wrap the cabinets. www.vvividhq.com/architectural-vinyl-wraps I used the ebony color. and yes i did wrap it over the existing cabinets, if you do the same make sure to clean and degrease the surfaces very well and do it more than once to insure proper adhesion. focus on the edges to make sure the film will stick well. Unfortunately I didn't take more than three photos of it before I started the project and didn't really record any video until it was nearly completed. I am trying to finish a better video of the whole rig inside and out right now but haven't had time to finish the editing.

You did an awesome job! Looks really great.👍 I'm thinking of buying a diesel ambulance because it's in my budget, but I'm scared of diesels because I hear they're so expensive to work on. Has that been your experience?
@protint4467
@protint4467 6 лет назад
I picked a 7.3 powerstroke diesel because it is so reliable and not to expensive to work on. That being said and this is just my opinion, I would only go with the 7.3 and not anything newer because they are way more complicated and have many more components and look hard to work on in a van configuration. If you are considering an ambulance you might watch my other video about it, I try to explain what you might be getting into. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1JEwImzeOiM.html
@chrismcelroy7915
@chrismcelroy7915 5 лет назад
Personally I think the 7.3 is slightly easier to work on in a van chassis than a truck chassis, you just do most of it from inside the cab. For me, the turbo and valve covers are much easier to manage in a van.

We have been having temps in the high 90's all summer this and last year, and as of yet I have had no problems with adhesion. The humidity here is very low so I cant say if that would affect these products.

Brock Burkett I looked into it in Utah and as far as I can tell, what I have done to mine makes it qualify. There was a list of requirements like sink/stove/toilet/bed/fridge. I haven’t pursued it any further but I did fine the requirements on Utah’s website

@protint4467
@protint4467 6 лет назад
Brock Burkett. Honestly I had no trouble, mine was registered as an e450 van and I went through State Farm insurance. Eventually I was able to have it insured as a Rv after it was finished. But I had to supply photos of all of the different components. Like toilet, stove,fridge,water. After that I was able to have it covered for 40k as an rv . It wasn’t easy and took some communication with my agent to get this but he made it happen. It seems that it might vary quite a bit from state to state as far as insurance. I am in utah and had little trouble but I have had a few people ask about it. Good luck!

I just recently purchased a 2001 Dodge 3500 15 Passenger Van here in Central Delaware, that I plan on converting into a Camper Van, and my Insurance Agent started giving me issues with getting my Van Insured, because they said it falls under Commercial Status, and they were finally able to insure it, but it had to be insured as a Commercial Vehicle, which jacked up my monthly Premium Rates a bit, but it is tagged as an RV with Delaware DMV, but if I want to insure it as an RV to get a much cheaper monthly Premium Rate, I would need to follow certain Criteria as set by my Insurance Company before they will insure it as an RV.

Brock Burkett that sucks! Mine is just titled as a e450 and I had no problems with insurance. I did look into changing the title to RV and I think mine would qualify as is. Things like a toilet/bed/sink/fridge were required. Sorry to hear it’s been trouble for you.
@protint4467
@protint4467 6 лет назад
One thing I didn’t say about insurance. I have about 8 cars on my policy. I didn’t have much trouble getting insurance but I had them do full coverage under a RV policy with a 40k payout. My agent was a little reluctant to do this but I told him I would take my business elsewhere. He called me back a hour later and had it all ready to go at a better price
@Brock79

I haven't bought the ambulance yet, well i did commit to buying an ambulance to different ones. but kept backing out for not being sure how to insure them. Right now im debating on getting a van with a raised roof, or an ambulance. The ambulance is a lot cheaper, but the van is easier and cheaper to insure. Right now i got confirmed $84 a month with Progressive for liability for the ambulance im looking at.... That seems high. but it would only be temporary till i can title it as a RV
