If you remember, Meredith is the one who brought the idea to Derek in the first place. He was on the trial because she needed a neurosurgeon. AND he was ready to quit and she made him go into that 13th surgery
Derek telling Meredith she didn't deserve the credit because she was just a resident is such a slap in the face - she should have thrown in his face how her mother won a Harper Avery as a resident in a time in a time when most men assumed she was a highly competent nurse
Don't you think it would've been awesome tho?! The Shepherd-Grey Method, they even got married later on. Like that would've been goals as love doctors to have a method after them.
I absolutely HATE that she got no credit for the clinical trial SHE researched and started...on top of all that she even pushed Derek to complete the surgery for the 13th patient (which was when the surgery atually succeeded) why wasn't SHE the one to say all this and put him in his place...he is such an ASS but I still ship them sm ughhh 😭 thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
she didn't get "no credit", she did get credit. her name was on it as the resident responsible for the trial, they even mention it when they're looking for a buyer for the hospital in season 9. the thing she was upset about is the fact that he named the method after him which is a fair thing to do considering she came up with the idea but he created the virus and changed it every time they got it wrong. why shouln't he name it after him? he created the method.
He's probably right that it's standard practice for residents not to get their name on it and that it would look unusual. Whether it's a thing that people on the inside, like himself, should be trying to change is another question.

Unless like in the case of Joe where she tells Meredith not to because she did not want her ex husband to find her. He was wrong but Derek was allowed to be arrogant for such a long time he catch up in time. Truth is though most surgeons are that way remember when Burke's hand and Christina did all the work it was the same thing. I guess being great also takes some amount of arrogance and let's not front that's what she fell in love with anyway. They eventually found their way. There will never be another like McDreamy.
I hated Derek in this episode. He has always been selfish when it comes to his career. Meredith was the one who came up with the idea, begged him to join her because she needed a neurosurgeon, and pushed him to do another trial when he was about to give up. And he had the audacity to not give her a bit of credit and said she doesn't deserve it ?!
I could never quite figure out how I felt about the kidney in the jar... It's probably the most disturbing romantic gesture ever... Or maybe the most romantic disturbing gesture ever..... I can't quite make up my mind...XD
It is, but in this specific episode there was a big transplant involving several people and Bailey said that one lucky resident may receive a kidney in a jar. So, that was sweet of him of getting that for Meredith. Weird for us who are not involved with surgery 😂
Although I know Derek was right in this episode. It was the Shepherd method because he did all the major work and she was his assistant. But all she needed was credit from him personally. A thank you of some sort. She didn't need a picture of her in the journal or her name in the method. He was the attending on the project it was the reality. But he had to ease it on him instead of dumping it
Actually it was Merediths idea and research the only thing Meredith needed was a surgeon and he picked him , and half of the work and Meds was Merediths the only thing that Derek did was cutting and inserting the Meds and even when he was giving up Meredith made sure he doesn't until it was a success, he was a jerk ass in this episode for not including Mer while it was her research.
Derek literally only cared about his career this whole show. Meredith was so much better without him. She had an amazing streak when he left (which ended when he came back), became Chief of General surgery, mini livers, a Catherine fox award 👏🏼 and she’s working on more stuff. Derek’s death was probably the best thing that happened.
again, thinking of herself...meredith is a second year resident, most people at her level would have their names last on the article or trial itself when it's published...shepherd's the attending, shepherd's the principal investigator, come on shonda...
He was PI sure but you thank your research and support staff, whether they are physicians, nurses, admin support. Journal article guideline specify how they are to be written and how to write in about the staff. It wasn't that she wanted even half the credit, but not to be mentioned... total d^ck move
Maybe medicine is different but that's not at all how it worked when I was doing my Master's or PhD. If it's the student's research, they _always_ get their name first.
