Palmetto Armory has been running some good sales of late and local farmers and ranch supply centers like Atwoods has been well stocked and reasonably stocked, considering the times we are now living in.
At times you want to support local retail stores, however their markup is so much. Makes more sense to buy online when buying 500 or more rounds. Lots of places offer free shipping at $200.
1:00 It seems the Federal XM/M193 has the highest velocities. And that is what gets through steel armor. Other than the having a harder material than steel, like tungsten, that the black tip m995 have in them. You have to settle for trying to get the highest velocities you can to penetrate steel armor.
Slightly off subject, but today I was in Sports Authority in Little Rock, AR, looking to see what they had. To my surprise I found a name brand 12 gauge 00 Buckshot 2 3/4 in 9 pellet shot rounds priced at a hair over $13.00 a box of 25 rounds!! I bought two boxes for home self defense because for two years now it was not even on the shelf. Its back, and not a great price but certainly cheaper than I could reload it! They had a couple of other brands, including one in a 3" shell priced at $25 a 25 round box for $27 and another essentially the identical load that I bought for $16/box of 25. I am happy to find it!
Sounds like you have a pretty commie understanding of the word fair. The word your local dealer thinks it is is 'marketable'. He may be right he may be wrong but fair has nothing to do with it.
Thats good to know the 200 rd mark :) When prices are double what they were, I don't buy. When it gets closer to the 35 cents a rd Ill start looking again.
I'm all for supporting the local guy, and will hit up Academy, Scheel's, or the small dealer for a box or two, but not when I want a greater amount and both small and large retailers are coming in at least $2 a box or more than what I can get online. For my go to online shop if I spend over $125 in one order, which I always do, I get free shipping. They are probably .2 cents per round higher than some of the other online guys, but their free shipping and excellent customer service more than makes up for that. They also have "monthly specials" that knock off 2 or 3 dollars compared to their normal prices. I just ordered a good amount of 7.62x39 for $7.50 and .223 for $8 a box. And just like in the video you can see what a difference $2 makes over the long haul. That's not lost on me when it comes time to balance the checkbook each month.
I work at Cabela's and the Herter's brand is .60 cents a round for the value packs in 5.56 or .223. We also have Remington at .70 cents a round (why Remington, why?) BTW, the Herter's is made by Winchester. A box of 50 rounds of 45ACP in Winchester is $34.99 and the Herter's is $27.99. 9x19 is also a good deal cheaper. Yes, if you shop your local Cabela's you support my job an I am local.
Thank you for your graph. It is similar to what I found for 38 SP. Small qualities shipping costs are sometimes an additional 50% of the costs. Buying in bulk may make sense but it is case by case.
I reload almost exclusively so ammo purchases for me are limited to shotgun mostly. I believe in shopping local owned stores and do so if at all possible but some are just to expensive for me. I know they got to make a living and I don't have a problem with that but a fixed income guy like me has to spend wisely.
I reload myself and none of my local dealers carry any kind of reloading products. BPS has some products and that is 60 miles away. I have to order online.
I buy from my favorite store when I"m in the neighborhood. I have 2 sources online that I buy from most of the time. One is in state, and I try to give them the business first if they have what I'm looking for.
Here's another reason to support you LGS. A fair amount of our ammo is still limited sales, but our regulars, we let an extra box or two slide by for them on occasion. Also, when we get down to a certain amount of a particular caliber, we will pull it and reserve it for people purchasing firearms, you don't walk out of our store with a gun purchase without ammo, unless by your choice, and sometimes we would pull from this reserve for certain customers.
Yes, pull an extra 10 boxes "out of reserve" you're over charging for in the first place. What a deal! People there is no shortage. Ammo is back in stock everywhere. Don't overpay to stores over charging or the prices will never come back down. Shop better prices online and force local stores to lower the price to compete instead of lining their pockets.
@@danw9865 Actually, our prices are about the same as he showed in the video, our margin has stayed the same, but our cost from the manufacturer has gone up. Winchester just sent out an email saying that cost are going to increase 15% in June. As for the shortages, we've had over two million on backorder for the last year, we're finally getting some ammo that we ordered in February 2021.
This is great information I think . Better buy as much as you can online while the government lets you. If you reload it’s costing a lot also nowadays if you can even find components. I’m very disappointed in our governments 2A stand .
easy choice in CA, not allowed to buy online, too "dangerous" dangerous of course meaning that if you could buy online, then the state wouldn't get the money from the ammo background check fee, nor the taxation, nor be able to log every single data point on you and the transaction. (i guess not for the rest of the country)
Online is the way to go now, i only buy .22LR at the store now these day. Some online vendor offer free shipping after $200. If you can’t afford a case, get with your family or buddy and split the case that way everyone win.
As a Prime Member on an online site I get any order shipped for free, even on just one box of 20. The membership runs 95/ year and ALL ammo is discounted with free shipping and priority alerts when your preferred ammo is in stock or comes in stock. I am not charged Sales Tax in my State. For simple range practice I just bought PMC Bronze 223, 55 Grain FMJ for .45/round delivered. Personally, I have not found anyone or anything local that come close in comparison to online pricing. While the 95 annual fee may turn some off for me it’s no different than Amazon Prime, Costco, Sam’s Club, etc. If you shoot 500 rounds/year, probably not for you. In 9mm, .223 & 5.56 I run about 500 rounds/month so IMO it’s well worth the Prime fee.
Same here for me Nelson. I buy from TS USA also. And grabbed some 223,55grain ---.45 per round. Plus I live in the country at least 1hr from big box stores
Nearest store that sells ammo is 25 miles away and the ammo shelves are EMPTY. My neighbor is a FedEx driver so when I order online that is buying local to me.
Me personally, I support local shops and maybe Rural King. You may can save a small amount online ( more so longer ago), but local shops are local folks. Already dwindling away from big box stores and online competition, and it won't take much to either stop online sales completely and/or for local shops to finish dying out. When they do dye out, I believe if gov hasn't before then, they will for sure stop online sales. They know its happening and using it as a tactic to hit the gun community. I won't be blinded by saving a few bucks online before supporting my own people. Thats wrong to me. But that's me and my choice. Just like I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart or many other places that are like that. Folks complain about how things are and holler and belly ache about commie this or that and China but then run to Wal-Mart or somewhere else and don't blink an eye and even get mad and defensive. SMH. Anyhoo, appreciate the info. 🐍🇺🇸 Note: No this device and my tv are not Chinese. Im sure somethings I have may be, but its things not offered made here already and its about making a serious decision or effort to not support them and to support local/American and other good places. I know the justifications and rationalizing and comparing is coming so wanted to say that. Lol Take care man. 🐍🇺🇸
What I see is a pretty big gap between online suppliers and at retail stores. One online source I use is currently selling 9mm FMJ at under 14.00 a box new for 50 not reloads. A recent visit to a Cabela's and another local sporting goods store the lowest 9mm was 19.99 the rest were from 21.99 to 23.99. That' s a huge gap.
Really great information especially with the graph on price differential. I reload so unless it's a brand-new cartridge like 30 super carry I will scrounge my components.
I have no choice but to order online….our locals have NOTHING. And when they do…only 5 boxes at a time. But I pay an annual fee on two sites and get free shipping…….heck 4-5 orders pays itself.
There are some online vendors who have flat rate shipping and I check them first... Do I feel bad not going to the LGS first? Nope, they are rude to everybody except their friends. F them.
I just paid $470 for 1000 rounds of PMC 55gr .223. I get that it’s .223 not 5.56. In that same order of 1000 rounds of .223, I got 500 rounds of 147gr 300BLK, 100 rounds of Winchester 115gr silver tip 9mm and 150 rounds of 125gr 357Mag. Shipping was $53. For that whole order. Plus tax of course. I also bought 1000 rounds of Remington UMC 115gr 9mm for $319 and an extra $21 for shipping plus tax. For bill buys, online seems to be the way to go. Especially with 300BLK and 6.5 grendel. Now the 500 rounds of 300BLK being target ammo, it also comes with 2 ammo cans. So I mean, again, online beats retail. I paid $14.95 per 20 round box of Winchester 115gr silver tip 9mm before shipping and tax.
I buy online and from my local gun shop , if you are buying to stockpile remember sniffy Joe's goons can track your purchases for online orders and that will become a problem soon I bet
Find a local shop you like and trust, then buy there even if it's a little more. My dealer has sold me items I love, a couple of which I had no knowledge of beforehand.
So pay more, pay for the fuel to drive there… just because they’ll show you things you didn’t know existed? To each their own. I’d rather pay less, get more and pay no fuel costs and my time driving around searching. I mean I get paid to what roughly works to $100/hour in my line of work. So I don’t want to drive around, pay for fuel, pay MORE for ammo just because I’m naive to what’s on the market and maybe they’ll show me something new. To anyone that prefers this guys way…. I have a bushel of apples that’s $10 more than you normally pay, but they’re apples you weren’t previously aware of. They’re not any “better” they’re just something you weren’t aware of. Sure pay me that additional $10, plus your time plus your fuel you wasted.
I've normally found the best deals for 5.56 online on certain ammo sights or even sporting good stores in neighboring states online. Most also have free shipping and some are 2 day shipping at that, so can't go wrong.
@@EvanC89 Not too shabby at all. There are some good prices for green tips, but I've always been leery about green tip ammo, myself. Whatever works best for people, I say. 👍
