This is crazy, I went to my dealer he told me I need a new pc valve (I have 5.7L Hemi) $500 that MF'r wanted to charge me. I'm glad I saw your video, thanks brother!
Thank you kindly ❤❤❤ I did it. I changed the Pcv valve in my 2013 Dodge Challenger rt 5.7 hemi. Then, I reset the engine light with Google. Afterwards, I drove her up and down and all around the curves. We all good. Amen 🎉❤🎉
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have heard a few people say that over the years. Teaching doesnt pay well, thats one of the downsides. Thanks Billy for watching and for being a subscriber.
Very true.....majority of the time it does its job with no issues. But eventually like everything else.....it needs to be replaced. Thanks Manny for checking the video out!
@@Angelo2005white One issue is that the engine will have too much pressure build up internally, causing oil leaks, like in the spark plug tube, causing misfires.
I was watching some other idiot on this topic and he pissed me off. Thank you for this took me 5 minutes and I used to be a sales rep for Daimler Chrysler. Direct and to the point with no rhetoric
Glad that my video could help you out. I know the frustration…..when I am looking for a video I usually have to go thru 3-4 before I usually find one that actually shows me what I need to know
Hey..would you guys know what the pinion angles should be for the 2019 rams ? Mine has an awful vibration that neither myself or two dealerships can figure out..although they are unwilling to go further than a tire replacement and balance. Any help at all would be appreciated immensely
Out of all you’re videos I have watched.. I haven’t seen you do any brake flaring..I’d love to see a video on flaring brake lines and bending them and so on..great for the viewers
Thanks man great vid. I was just looking for the pcv on my 07 Jeep GC and was wondering why there would be two oil filler openings - you answered two questions there.
Hey David, first congratulations on starting your own shop; second I am working on a 2009 Dodge 3500 with Cummins 6.7, the customer complaint is smelling diesel exhaust in the cab while stopped at a light or stop sign. I have verified the complaint and it is only with the heat or ac on; I have looked and cannot findcan exhaust leak under the hood. Any ideas as where or what to check? Have you experienced this in a Dodge before? Looking forward to more videos!
Great video and insight (like button smashed) Odd reaction to when I replaced mine. My WK2 Jeep was making a strange noise when it was coming out of ECO mode. For some reason changing my PCV valve eliminated the noise. I'll take it.
Ever come across an issue of the motor cutting out cylinders when shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 gear when accelerating from a dead stop. And this would be moderate acceleration. Great videos and very helpful by the way! Keep up the good work! 2015 Ram Outdoorsman 5.7 Hemi, 63,000miles
What is the point of the engine cover? As of me watching this, 3 dealer service advisors have down voted this video to giving away one of their "gravy" jobs.
Decorating and sound deadening is the typical reasons. We are up to 5 thumbs down now so seems like I am taking away from some techs wallets lol. Thanks for watching and for the comment as always
You think you can do a video on a power steering pump with a proper removal and installation process, for a 3.6l caravan, thank you, by the way I was able to replace my transmission cooling lines thanks to videos
I will certainly keep it in mind as a future video. Thanks for the request and thanks for using and watching my other videos as well. Always happy that I can help.
Do you have any videos on differential fluid changes? Wondering if I need the mopar additive for the conventional rear axle? Obviously I’d need it for the limited slip, but not sure about the standard conventional axle. Thanks
Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Every engine has leakage past the piston rings known as blow-by. In the past these were allowed out of the engine through a draft tube. However as more vehicles were being built and people started to be aware of the fumes and vapors coming off them the PCV system was developed. It uses the valve and a fresh air tube to draw fresh air into the engine through the air cleaner then that air mixes with the blow by inside the engine and is drawn out through the PCV valve into the tube that leads into the intake manifold. The fumes and oil vapor are then burnt inside the engine. Normally this isn't a big issue UNLESS you have a GDI engine. On those this vapor still goes the same route but now there is no gas being sprayed onto the back of the valves to keep them clean and they build up deposits that cause other problems. Failure of the system can lead to leaks if it builds pressure in the engine. I have seen main seals blown out because of a failed PCV, it can also lead to oil burning for a similar reason, except now it is engine vacuum that sucks the oil up and burns it.
Oil usage is one main item......it can cause oil to get into the intake and soak items like the air filter in oil and go back into the engine and get burnt and out the tail pipe.
Cylinder pressures get past the rings on the piston and enter the crankcase......the PCV valve helps to remove that pressure and also separate the oil from it so that it stays in the engine and not enter the intake
I am a new subscriber to your channel and I've got to say that you really seem to know your stuff. I have a slightly unrelated question. Do you recommend using an oil catch can system? If yes, is it beneficial to install on a 5.7L Durango with 100,000 miles or is it a waste of time and money at this point?
Easy peasey. Hardest part is getting the cover back on under the windshield cowl. David what's your opinion on oil catch-cans? Thanks again for your great videos.
@@NickLoecke I haven't checked my oil catch yet..been on for 8 months now..just like the fact that it seperates the oily mist from getting into the throttle body..the canister I have is billet also..with a small air filter ontop..you may have to rig up a small bracket to mount the can if you can't find a suitable spot..I used a large " L " bracket I got from Home Depot then mounted the can onto the bracket.
I have 165000 on my Ram and have never replaced mine. I have tried to look up a number and it doesn’t even list a PCV. Great tip and video. Thanks! Since I have to remove the air cleaner and shroud, do I need to disconnect the battery to replace?
Nope.....no need to deal with the battery. Sounds like your about due for it based on that mileage for sure lol. Thanks for watching and for the comment Ken.
Hi David I really like you all videos, suggestions and also explanations when fixing trucks. I have a question what you recommend on Oil catch can on Ram 5.7 Hemi.
I personally see no need.....we dont have issues with carbon build up on the valves because we dont use direct injection and we dont have oil consumption issues. Personally I feel its just eye candy on a Chrysler.
I have an emergency. I pulled the water pump of 2013 grand Cherokee 3.6 ltr. 4 of the rubber spacers on the long bolts were gone or deteriorated do I need to get these from the dealer. Are they necessary to replace? Only 3 of long bolts have the rubber pieces still on that I can use.
@@MotorCityMechanic thanks for the info. I got my son watching you now. He got some good info on the Durango SRT oil sending unit. His Durango SRT had the same issue, but not now thanks to your video.
Thanks! However, how do you remove the old PCV valve and install the new one once it’s remove from its housing? I understand how to get access to it and how to put it back together but, you didn’t show taking the old one off and putting the new one on.
Sorry if I am confused, In the video I do remove and replace it. Now what might help clear things up is....the item I am removing and installing is the PCV valve. There is nothing to separate and reinstall on the item that was removed, it is the PCV valve. Its one piece. So what you see me grasp with the pliers and twist is it.
@@MotorCityMechanic I figured it out. I didn’t realize the replacement part was exactly the same part was what was removed. Very informative video! Thank you.
Was on a trip to family's house 500 miles away few days ago and they have heated garage with all the air tools and everything I needed to do some routine maintenance. Once I was done changing oil, rotating tires ect. I had just passed 100k miles on the 5.7 on this 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and thought, when I get home I need to check Pcv and maybe install a catch can. When I went to start it back up, push button start, it just kept cranking and cranking like the battery was dead, I could not shut it off. When I pushed the button to try and make it stop it kept cranking! This went on for about 45 seconds. Then it stopped. I waited a few min, pushed the button and it fired right up! I wondered even more If the Starter was shot or the Pcv Valve was clogged? Well when I got home there was oil dripping from the bottom of the rear of the engine, like the main seal was gone? What the heck? Can't see where the oil is coming from. The crossmember between the engine and transmission is covered in oil. It only seems to leak when running. David or anyone have any idea what this could be? Clogged Pcv that caused to much pressure inside engine?
David, nice to see you back. Enjoy your content. A question, what should one be looking at on intermittent codes P0420 & P0430 coming on and eventually going off. Thank you.
It has been a bit for sure......I knew I best put something out soon. Lots going on here so finding the time has been difficult. I hope to change that soon.....starting my own shop Jan 1st.
Thank you for your information..put I have questions I have 2015 dodged charge se it’s kick from transmission between 1_2_3 shifts is that low fluid or what....
Can you help me I found that I have gelling in my filler neck on my radiator of my 2013 Grand Cherokee I found that the coolant had been mixed will flushing with chemical flush get this out I found small drip under water pump so will be changing water pump and thermostat but was wondering what removes gummy coolant will flush work or do you suggest 🙏🏻
Se apaga al disminuir la velocidad, por ejemplo al frenar en una curva, al llegar a un alto, a una luz de trafico... bajan las revoluciones de el motor. la cambie y asunto arreglado.
I’m having an issue where it doesnt really like driving on cold start. I mean it drives fine and shifts great, but I’ve had it stall on me a few times when coming to a stop. Maybe 3-4 times. Not a whole lot. Hasn’t done it in a while and only usually when cold so I make sure it’s fully heated up before driving. But also everytime I come to a stop light or any stop, the RPMs drop to 500 even. And I can give it a little gas and it’ll junk back to 700 and idle great. Not sure what the deal is? I replaced the MAP sensor and nothing. Replaced spark plugs and nothing. I sprayed a bottle of sea foam threw the throttle body. And nothing. I mean it helped a little for a day or two. It would jump back to the idle rpm it should be at but now it isn’t correcting itself. What could be the problem? Sorry for the long message.
Typically I have only replaced them for maintenance and never seen an issue yet. But if there is an oil consumption it would be the first place I check.
Aye I got a question. I got a Durango 2006. Everytime I fill it up, the dodge will stall after I stop. But this is only for like 2 miles. Then it runs fine. Someone said that it's a valve of the tank let's too much vapor in crank case. Any suggestions on what I should do?
Sounds like a valve on the fuel tank is sticking and when you fill up with fuel its allowing "liguid" gas into the vapor canister and once the purge solenoid is commanded on....instead of vapor going to the intake.....liquid fuel is and that causes the engine to stumble and stall until the fuel level drops. Thats what I usually find and when you take the canister off.....its heavier then normal. Thats when the tank and canister have to be replaced. You can verify this by unplugging the electrical connector at the purge solenoid and then fill the tank up and see if any further issues.
YOur videos are great man...Do you have any vids on your channel explaining the EVAP code. I keep having to reset it once a week..More of a pain then anything. I don’t think it’s the gas cap. Off the top of my head i believe the code is something like P0004 (small evap leak). The gas cap light has NEVER come on. I have done some research on it and i believe it’s something under the engine cover that may need to be replaced or snugged up. Thanks brother....Happy holidays...
Hey David, question on the 5.7 Hemi. I got one in a 2015 2500 tradesman with 34k. It’s a year old to me I bought it as cpo from the dealer. Other day one of my employees was driving it merging on the highway and floored it and the pedal stuck to the floor and was still accelerating. He got the pedal to come back up and told me about it. I tried to duplicate it and it did it only once for me with the truck floored. Normal acceleration is no problem. The red lighting bolt came on and the message envelope came up. Once I got the truck in neutral and stopped the pedal returned up and messages went away. I have a appointment to bring it in Wednesday, was wondering if that is a problem known about. it seems like it could be very dangerous to someone who doesn’t know how to react. Not much info on the web about it happening and it wasn’t the floor Matt getting caught. Had the traction control light come on last week after using manual 4wd also i found it was a small blown fuse that fixed that. Wondering if there is a electric problem somewhere.
I havent seen that myself. Now there is no mechanic connection (cable) from the pedal to the engine. The gas pedal is basically a big switch. Sounds like a possible APP issues (gas pedal assembly). It may have become stuck for some reason in a position.....otherwise it just moves where ever you put it but has spring tensioner to move it back to the rest position. Let me know what they find
I wonder if it might have corrosion on the pivot. Most of the time the pedal wouldn't travel that far so possibly stuffing it to the floor is causing it to stick on the crud? Are you in the rust belt?
MotorCity Mechanic yeah hate the fly by wire. Actually at the dealer now waiting for them to bring it in. I will let you know what they find. Of corse I’ve tried multiple times to get it to do it again and it hasn’t hopefully something is stored in the truck.
Blazer02LS yeah I am, but I bought the truck as barley used from the dealer older guy had it. It can pass as a 2019 it’s so clean. I’m thinking it’s a problem with the plastic gears in electronic throttle body.
look first at the floor liner. I emptied the dirt, pine needles out of my weather tech drivers side floor liner, and carelessly reinstalled it. When I started the engine the rpms went to the moon, and I think the engine turned itself off. I was shocked. I started looking around and saw the floor liner was on top of the gas pedal. doh!
i have a 300 srt8 6.1 with a procharger but i have a problem theres oil coming out from the header breather valve and everything i get to the stop light smokes starts coming out from the hood because of that any suggestions to get that fixed?
Nothing wrong with replacing the PCV valve, but even when these engine are brand new, they dont do much. You need a catch can to prevent the oil and moisture going back into the intake.
Personally I recommend around 100k but as the other viewer mentioned......check your owners manual to see the specifics for your vehicle. Thanks for asking and for watching.
Thanks for watching JT. I don’t have the info about the supplier so I won’t be of much help with that. I haven’t noticed any brand names stamped into them, just the part number. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe
I have over 100k on my 2012 5.7 hemi so I’ll replace it any ways, just did a plug Change 5k ago it has a constant hesitation at low acceleration.Any ideas?
Are the 6.4 L engines more adorable than the 5.7 L engines from 2019 on forward? Also is the 6.4 L engine heavier than the 5.7 L engine? Does anyone know?
They both hold up great in my opinion. As far as weight....I personally couldnt tell you. I wouldnt think to much. Maybe someone else on here reading the comments might now. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
Only thing I can recommend is pulling up on the PCV valve while wiggling/rotating it back and forth. Thanks for the question and hope it works. Make sure to subscribe
mine did not have one, ex cop car. But I thought it dressed up the engine, and thought it might dampen the sound of the injectors, which I believe it did.
There is a link in the video and also at the end of the video......that video is one of the two shown that you can actually click on. Its basic video and the removal per each vehicle may be different as far as accessing it. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
