One of the few times a Dorman product is actually going to be useful, reliable, and improve longevity. What a great idea from them - hope they will sell serviceable gaskets. Now they need to make a aluminum thermostat housing! Great video!

Man, between this and the thermostat video, you helped save me so much money and headache. Also, I've been working on my own junk for 35 years and I'm always learning something new from guys like you. That WD40 trick is genius. I always use a hose pick but never once thought to squirts some lube in there. Awesome videos!

Hey David, thanks for the video highlighting this upgrade replacement item. I had to replace the one on my 2013 T&C today after the original plastic one started leaking in the driveway yesterday when I got home. As always I went to RU-vid and researched what would be involved in swapping it out. I didn't realize there was an aluminum upgrade till I watched your video. Your video was perfectly put together and very professional compared to others on there. The Motor City is very lucky to have a professional technician with your knowledge and abilities local for them. Thanks again from a new subscriber and take care!

David, thanks for all your help with this video! Last week my 2014 Challenger displayed an engine light with a P0128 problem code. I had watched this video last year and remembered it. I ordered the aluminum crossover pipe and the now available aluminum thermostat housing. Will be replacing both parts next week. All the torque tips and the rubber bushing information was extremely helpful. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the informative content. I'm getting ready to replace leaking thermostat housing on 2015 200c with Pentastar and figured while I was in there, I might as well upgrade the coolant pipe to a more durable and hopefully reliable metal component. It's a little more involved doing this with engine in the vehicle but watching this video and also watching motor mount replacement gives me all the info I need to complete this repair / upgrade. Oh and I ordered the updated coolant tube from Rock Auto and got it for $31.79 plus shipping and tax. I had other stuff in with order so I'm figuring about $36 shipped.

My 2014 Town & Country just started a small drip at the upper hose and thermostat housing only while running not parked. This looks like a great upgrade if the thermostat housing is aluminum also or available aluminum. My 2006 Cayenne had stupid plastic coolant pipes in it I upgraded to aluminum when I bought it. WTG auto engineers for using plastic in a very hot location! Thanks for the video my van has 159K miles now I hope this one pushes 320K as well as my 1994 did with the 3.3 motor.

Thanks for the video David. On the cars where the engine mount is in the way, do we just need to support the engine from the bottom (floor jack and a block of wood) and then just remove the engine mount? I hate plastic in motors too...GM almost ruined the reputation of the 3800 for putting plastic all over the series 2 and 3..UIM, Coolant Elbows, etc...hey Dorman helped with those problems too. There are some Dorman products that don't make the mark ( and they catch a bunch of heat over it) but sometimes their stuff is just what the doctor ordered...

When you're working on a machined aluminum surface, it's better to use a blue (3M 7515) or gray disc (3M 7516). The red disc is much more abrasive, taking material off much faster. That Dorman part is very nice! Thank you for letting us know about it.

Had a plastic thermostat housing on a Buick Encore turbo 4 cylinder. It cracked and also swelled enough to let the thermostat flip over inside it. Drove us nuts as it would be okay for a while, then all of a sudden the engine would overheat and shut down (luckily before it caused any engine damage). Where the housing was it was buried and the crack was not evident . Also the coolant would steam off so you couldn’t tell exactly where the leak was. My mechanic finally found it and replaced it with a new (plastic) one which solved the problem. Another case where an aluminum thermostat housing or any other part of the cooling system should be mandatory. I hope Dorman comes up with the thermostat housing for the 3.2 V6 as I have one of those now in my Jeep Cherokee.

First let me say that your descriptions, dis-assembly/reassembly logic is very good for the DIY mechanic. That said, I know this is going to sound nit-picky, but those are not 10mm bolts holding the thermostat housing and crossover pipe. Those bolts have 10 mm hex heads, but the bolt is an M6, probably 1.0 pitch. Just like SAE bolts and fasteners, the size of the bolt is not the hex size. For example: a 1/4-20 inch bolt typically has a 7/16 inch hex; with metric fasteners, an M6 x 1.0 millimeter bolt typically has a 10mm hex. I understand you are explaining to the listener so they know what size of socket wrench to use. Maybe you could say "These are bolts with 10mm hex heads, which will be the wrench size."

Sent you a couple bucks (paypal) will definitely send more as you save me money ( and may make me money in the future on helping repair others' vehicles ) , as i bought a 2015 Ram Promaster 1500 3.5l to build for traveling and I have stuck too much money into the build ( solar, water system etc ) to sell it and I have a lot of issues already and can see there is the potential for a lot more. Appreciate you very much ! Thanks D Y PS Have radiator out and thought I may as well check spark plugs. OMG !! Surprised it ran 134 k and obviously never changed. You caught me with the PCV ( on previous video )before I put intake etc back on ! Lucky me. PVC looks challenging as I have heater pipes in the area but the tool bit wrench should help. You saved me here to with that advice. Thanks !

David it seems like they would provide the sleeve with the long bolts for the pump. If rubber they may be cracked even thin steel could be messed up by corrosion. By rights for the price of that crossover part they should have sent it with new bolts and sleeves or steel spacer's it looks like you had in your hand. The one thing I hate you start a project then need something stupid as these spacers. I think I even put a thin layer of silicon between the crossover and the block just in case. Nothing worse is doing it twice.
