Thank you...I hope you find something/info useful. I've done a few more mods since making the video...HiPer Tech 3 carbon 3-piece wheels (front and rear), taller MAXXIS RAZR tires all corners, Dura Blue Eliminator X-33 rear axle with bullet aluminum hubs, and completely beefed-up swing-arm skid plate.

Good stuff. Bike looks awesome. Looks like it's built for long desert exploration.

Thank you...It's definitely built to explore the PAIUTE TRAIL system (southern Utah). I've also done similar mods to the wife's quad (TRX250X)...video to follow.

Very nice set up, i would probably add a small light bar on the handle bars so you can see where you turn alittle better. I looked up those fuel tanks because i thought that was a great addition and boy they are pricey but worth it. Maybe heat wrap the intake tube and under the fuel tank also
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 5 лет назад
Thank you...agree on all points. I already have a heat shield between the motor and gas tank...I did that when I installed the larger gas tank. I've been looking for a light setup, but haven't been aggressive with it seeing that I haven't had a need for it yet. Have a nice one...

Very nice something else i thought of it might be beneficial to add some shock covers and a-arm skid plates. Like i said very nice build, really clean. I absolutely love the idea of a sport quad converted to a long distance trail quad ill be getting another yfz450r once i return from Afghanistan (currently deployed, army) and ill be getting my wife a raptor 250 both will be converted to a long distance style like yours. Very nice man, ride safe.😎

@@jessebussinger5058 Thank you for your service...and stay safe (I'm retired USAF). My wife has a similar long haul build on her TRX250X Honda...in fact it might be the most expensive TRX250X around! :-)

I have the same exhaust on my YFZ450R. I cut about an inch off the radiator side of the radiator hose and it pulled it forward away from the exhaust header about an inch.
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 6 лет назад
Thank you for the suggestion...I too thought of the same thing and cut it as short as I thought I could get away with...I just didn't mention it in the video. The hose was still too close so I wrap thing and shortly after making the video I picked up a Silicone Rad Hose Kit that has different bends (for the hose in question) thus allowing me to gain some additional space/room.

I couldn't agree more. I had to go 2" taller tires all four corners to get some better ground clearance...swingarm skid was taking a massive pounding! I'd take a much lower first gear and reverse for the slower exploring type trails.

Where did you buy that black cylinder container that was mounted on the back left side of the quad
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 5 лет назад
It the tool kit holder for a Honda TRX400EX or X model. Here are two part numbers--diff pricing, but they are the same container. RMATV has these in stock HONDA OEM: Part# 83500-HM3-000 (2002 Model yr) Part# 83500-HN1-A20 (2007 Model yr)

Hey quick question for you what tape do you use on radiator hose
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq Год назад
You can do an easy search (mix of words) for Heatshield Hose Wrap Tape...here are the two types I used...one from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and one off of Amazon. The amazon ones are better at blocking heat. Hope this helps. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/dei-cool-tape-heat-reflective-tape-p www.amazon.com/Design-Engineering-010416-Self-Adhesive-Reflective/dp/B000E267JW/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3EKQW56RIDFOQ&keywords=Design+Engineering+010416+Cool-Tape+Self-Adhesive+Heat+Reflective+Tape&qid=1687533171&s=hi&sprefix=design+engineering+010416+cool-tape+self-adhesive+heat+reflective+tape%2Ctools%2C169&sr=1-4 This one is not as good, but would work on RAD hoses that are not as close to the exhaust. www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Reflective-Adhesive-Self-Adhesive-Resistant/dp/B0936ZZ75X/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=ATU9T9QXQTP&keywords=heatshield+hose+wrap+tape&qid=1687532948&sprefix=heatshield+hose+wrap+tape%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

The one behind the bumper would get smashed if you ran into something and on the nerf bars
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 3 года назад
The bumper and nerf bars are thinner wall material than the bottles...the bumper and nerfs would get bent up way more than the bottles. My wife has two bottles behind her front bumper and she smacked a massive rock right on one of the bottles and the bumper mounts bent more than the bottle...the hit was so hard that her lower A-arm got damaged as well.

Cuanto mide el tanque de fabrica? Ancho, alto y largo porfavor. Quiero incrustar uno en mi quad
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 3 года назад

You use an "Adhesive Backed Aluminized Heat Barrier". Here are a few links of two different options: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029KC2K/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051USC5O/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Should’ve got a raptor 700r this is a race quad lol
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 6 лет назад
I almost did, but my old motocross days made it difficult to go with anything else but one of the 450 models (Honda or Yamaha). There are definitely times I wish I had opted for the Raptor, but I still do not regret going the 450 route. Have a nice one...

Get a oversized tank
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 4 года назад
Already have one installed! It is an IMS 3.8 Gal tank...the fuel cylinders add another 2 gal of range...for the 5.8 total. I need to be able to safely make 160+ miles without hitting a gas station.

@SteveSmith-wl8yq

Yea, it's a lot of junk, but important trail side repairs/fuel junk. :-) Surprisingly I really do not notice the extra weight or stuff on the trails.
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 6 лет назад
Wildcard, thank you for the comments... I'd also bet if someone needed my "extra junk" on the trail-side (for repair/fuel) they wouldn't think it was "junk"... it would be like a glass of water in the desert! :-)

Waste of money. Should’ve bought something made for trails.
@SteveSmith-wl8yq
@SteveSmith-wl8yq 5 лет назад
Thank you for the feedback, but I'll have to disagree---and I will seeing that I'm the one that did all the research and shopping around before making a decision on what base quad I wanted to start my mods from. Also, most all of the GNCC racers would disagree as well...they race/ride trails with some minimal motocross sections/obstacles, but they all pretty much use the same quad type (450s). The quad I need has to serve many purposes (in my case anyway), so there wasn't and still isn't a good solution out there other than doing mods to some baseline quad (i.e., Raptor was the second choice). And lucky for me I enjoy wasting my money...in fact you should see all the money I've wasted on my Can-Am X3....and I just drive the wife around in it.
