@@albiemccarthy5955Dave would be the first to tell you, it's far from perfection. But he would probably agree it's perfection in practice. The closest you can get, only because he is so constantly driving and refining. #DaveForPresident
I don't know a single thing about engine builds, but watching that cylinder and O-ring surgery, I could easily imagine a guild artisan of the Middle Ages watching that and then recommending this crew as new 'guild masters' based on the sheer artistry of their craft. Nothing less than amazing.
Man this episode got me. My Dad bought a brand new 2003 dodge ram. He had one accident back in 2009, this was at a time I really was wanting to fix and work on a truck. We worked on it together and got it back up and running. That truck has had 0 issues over the years. Well he passed away day after christmas 2022. That truck has been sitting for the past year and a half and im working on getting the title so i could bring it back to glory. The only problem is its going to be tough emotionally to work on it again. But thank you Dave you really do remind me of my Dad in every aspect, its like watching my own Dad working on this stuff. Truly one of my favorite youtube channels! Keep the videos coming it means a lot more to some of us!
You need to look at it as your building it to show your dad. He is watching over you ever day. Do what you enjoy and build it how you think it should be! We got your back! Always here for questions! Only stupid questions are the ones not asked!
@@ReputableRides-bb7wy not sure where you get your delusions from but if you watched the video the engine was knocking and the customer wanted it rebuilt, even though Dave offered him a new engine which would have been the cheaper option. Do you have some kind of gripe with Dave? Maybe have a shitty garage nearby with hardly any customers and lots of send backs?
Truck was definitely worth saving, it's a beauty. Glad to see he had the natural gas system removed. Stellar job Dave and crew! Now if Dave could start a management retraining program on my bosses!🤔
And the brake fluid absorbing water and turning to steam. I knew it absorbed water but never thought about losing your brakes because of steam in the brake lines.
Dave is such a great boss. Mistakes are a part of learning. I love the gentle correction and you explained why it needed to be done. Even on good jobs, there's something better that can be done. The biggest room in the shop is the room for improvement.
My Dads cummins is a 5.9 too, 2005. Tons of blow by, probably a hole in the piston I bet. Id love to bring it to Dave's someday, im convinced these guys are the best there is.
Dave is the best, teaching, correcting, complimenting. He wants what’s best for everyone. Customer to employees and himself. I’d love to work for him if I wasn’t in Tennessee
I was a mechanic for 20 years. The young men you have working for you had me smiling the entire time. I can see the quality of work they’re performing and the excellent machinery that you’ve provided them with. I also doesn’t hurt that you are a great mentor. You’re the Yoda of diesel. This is how you become a world class shop.
I love, love, love, that last 3, to 5% rule, it's like, an engine can cost $8,000, but it's the nickle and dime stuff that makes the job good, radiator, hoses, therm, tune, filters, etc... NOT just the engine plunked in ! Good teaching Dave !!
What he said around the 15 minute mark, is probably the best advice that every person in leadership, will ever need! Compliments and criticisms have their place! If you want to get the best and most work from your employees, this advice is golden! Great job as always guys! Cheers from the Heart of Dixie
I'm a firm believer that unspoken gratitude is never heard!! Great job finding the positive items! Great catch on the open tube drawing in unfiltered air!!
Love the genuine, not click bait, content and people on this channel. Go Dave and... noticed the Banks component being mentioned, i still think you 2 would be epic on a collaboration effort.
I wish these engine machining and rebuilding videos showed more of the processes. I could watch that in real time for the many hours it takes to do these jobs from start to finish.
May the Lord bless you and your sons with long lives and may your future generations continue to make those tired motors happy again. Love and respect from Pakistan.
What about the dedication to selling a motor that didn’t need to be rebuilt ? It was clearly just the valve train but he was trying so hard to move the oil cap with his own hands to make it seem like it had blow by which it had none.
@@ReputableRides-bb7wy I thought it strange too that a 5.9 with 170,000 would need to be rebuilt. Who knows if we got the whole story on that valve issue, were there broken pieces unaccounted for that fell down into the motor, who knows? In the end the customer must have wanted it rebuilt, either way my point was that the team Dave has really seems to strive to build the best engines possible. I bet the customer is more than happy with it.
You’re absolutely right about the rotors, just get new ones they’re all pretty reasonable and if there’s one system you want at 100% it’s your brake system.
It's amazing how detailed Dave is. Just listening to how he talks about the brakes opens you mind up to all sort future issues with just one bad brake job.
This is what you get from a shop who rebuilds HUNDREDS of engines per year........they have it all DOWN COLD !!!!!!!!!!!! Nice work Dave! BTW, love the no nonsense Dave attitude !!!!!!!!!!
Thank God for a new video from Dave! I love your videos and y’all do great work. The videos are always so entertaining and especially educational. Been watching your channel for a long time now and have been able to apply so much of what you show in your videos to my work as a Caterpillar mechanic. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming! God bless you all!
In my trade we always check each others work, no point checking your own because you will only see what you expect to see. After a few times of people pointing out your stuff ups, your own QC grows exponentially.
Great video, what a fantastic environment to work in too. The constructive criticism for the young guy and teaching him that 3-5% rule but also showing your appreciation for his efforts and not putting him down. Thats a great leader and a measure of your deserved success. Keep it up 💪
The 6BT or QSB 5.9L 12valve NO EMISSIONS. In alot of 90's and 2000s(off road) trucks and equipment is my favorite engine. 22 years ago at the railyards when I started almost every Spotter Truck and piece of equipment had that engine. I've seen 3 different injection pump set ups on that engine connected to an Allison Trans! Great Video!👍🏻🇺🇲
Dave i really appreciate all your advice, not only does this apply to the automotive side, but any shop environment. I work in computer repair, i will take what i learn and apply so that way i can go from being a good tech to a great tech. Give that 3-5%. Really enjoy the videos that have the start to finish! Thank you for all you do!
What an Honor to have your Dads truck with a new Motor in it Built my Dave's Auto Center! That truck will last You the rest of your life. I have the same truck 05 and have just restored it and it has 158,000 original mile on it, I plan to keep it forever and drive it everyday and a lot more on weekends! Daves machine work is world class. I am sure Your Dad is very proud of You for giving His Cummins a new life. Keep up the awesome work Guys and God Bless.🙏🏻👍
I’m a fan of the 5.9 Cummins and I have to say that Dave’s shop in Utah is by far the best diesel shop that I know of…. Top notch work very detailed. Daves shop should make the others diesel shops out there step up there game and attention to details 👌👍
Dave is a great leader. And a great guy. Letting people learn by making mistakes but not letting them fail. I would work for this dude in a second. But probably wouldn’t be worthy.
Dave, you have a bad ass shop, bad ass mechanics that does rebuilds, but your machinist is BAD ASS. I have been in machine shops and hands on diesel mechanic shops like yours for 20+yrs & Numbers don't lie and numbers tells the truth, like bearing specs, hone specs, torque specs, etc. This machinist knows his shit, he got your back (your mechanics back)! All your repairs are FLAWLESS! 1+1+1+1= Excellent Crew/Shop!❤
I have that same truck and it makes me sentimental thinking about my son inheriting it from me or maybe I’ll give it to him sooner. I love how you preach new rotors instead of turning them. I have been doing that for years now.
Loved this video, show a new technician what it's all about. I'm glad to hear about the 3-5% good rule to follow by. Love how you appreciate the guys working for you.
Great technician, manager, and business owner. Your attention to detail amazing leadership and passion for what you have built is awesome. If this was 1998 I would be packing my tools up and heading to Utah that’s for sure.
i liked the part here you told him about the exhaust manifold cleaning. you didnt make him feel like and idiot and informed him! good stuff! always love the videos. feel like i pick up a trick or two each vid and ive been doing this for 12+years
Torque plates? O-rings? #5 re-sleeve? BRILLIANT! Caden - Please wear your seatbelt mate! "If I have to criticise, I try to find 2 or 3 things to compliment them on." You're a wonderful boss Dave! I bet your employees all love you!
You guys do an amazing job. It is nice to see the care and skill put into all your work. Your employees seem very happy and looks like a great working environment. Keep up the excellent work!
Another quality video (and engine rebuild) from Dave and the gang. Whomever is shooting and editing this footage is to be commended it’s as good or better than any on YT. The sound is good, scenes, timing..same precision Dave is putting into his shop’s work product. Education and entertainment..great work!
Just want to say thanks, I’m sure you get it all the time for fixing people’s vehicles! I’m saying thanks for the 4 C’s. I’m no mechanic by trade just a facility manager and I approach every problem with that mind set. Condition, cause, correction, confirm, has dramatically changed my efficiency. Thank you.
You know, back in the day the rotors were thicker and you could turn them with no problem. Today the rotors are so thin when they are brand new that one set of pads and they are toast. I think a lot of places don’t even burnish the new brakes and pads anymore. Another reason why I do my own work. Nice engine rebuild and mentoring.
I wish I could have Dave fix my SUV, it has a lot going on that is only going to get worse but I don't trust many people to do quality work. I am a Disabled Veteran and I want quality work for my money and it is so hard to find. Those customers are lucky Dave is there to do quality and honest work for them.
