5.9 Cummins S&B Intake Review and Install WORTH IT? 

I put this on my 04.5 5.9l 2500 and it was like just barely noticeable. Not massive like anyone claims

Your last comment is fact. The difference is way too small to notice in every day driving, but that doesn’t make them any less fun to add for the noise!

Slight difference in power but big difference in throttle response?

If you want my 2 cents they’re a nice addition, but in no way does the 2k price tag ever pan out in fuel savings or parts savings! That said, they’re a fun item to have and are WAY beefier than the stock units. They also reduce wear on the front driveline, and make a very slight improvement in fuel economy since they reduce drag on the front end.

The original owner of the truck put them on actually. They’re cool, but I’m not sure I’d pony up the cash for them on my own. I can definitely make a review video though!

Only thing different from stock engine wise is a Smarty Jr on eco, the intake, and a Diamond Eye Cat back exhaust!

Same here...Don’t feel bad at all.Have both: 06 Dodge Ram 5.9l and an 03 6.0 suburban. Weather gas or diesel we’re still trying to get the most bang for the buck. Glad it’s working out on your Tahoe. I have a banks on my 03 suburban and it has made a difference . Still debating whether to go Banks are S&B be on my diesel.

Sadly I need to do a trans upgrade on this thing before adding any more power!

Maybe my butt dyno lacks accuracy, but I noticed zero performance change. That’s a very platform specific thing though. Some vehicles will have a lot more to gain than others!

That's THE worst filter you can put on a diesel. Look up at the sun and see the pinholes letting light through. Dirt comes through those same holes.

Project Farm found the K&N to flow the best and clean air the worst. Chuck it.

They are stock mirrors...

Mine’s on the eco mode with a timing bump. The instruction manual does an awesome job explaining everything!

@@JustDiesels ok, I was wondering, cause I’m looking the same intake, with dry filter, for my 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck and I have an aftermarket exhaust, carven tr with 5” tips and wanted the intake make the exhaust sound a little louder! Thanks

This truck has the factory down pipe.

Yeah let me just bust out my driveway dyno and controlled lab really quick haha. IAT is impossible to compare outside of a lab, but I saw zero change in EGT or boost because the factory intake on these trucks flows just fine! I’d imagine there’s more to gain on a high HP truck, but on a mostly stock 5.9 truck like mine an air intake is pretty much entirely for sound.

@@JustDiesels ok cool smart ass response. Doesn’t your edge measure IAT? Lots of local dyno shops will let you run for less than $100 ...... doesn’t your edge do data logging? You ran the same road on back to back days I’d say the ambient air temps were prop with in 5-10 degrees on those back to back days. Not to hard to do a more in-depth before/after comparison. If you saw no change you could address that in the video. Or maybe you did and I missed it. Just a little constructive critique. Did you not ask for comments?

You “set out to make better videos”, I’m simply offering some things to think about to make better videos.

@@jason328d6 Dude...the difference a CAI alone makes on a stock truck is just increased turbo sound and looks... What you asked for is ridiculous and there are plenty of videos/articles that will deliver the info you asked for. Spoiler alert- they all say the same thing...the gains a CAI provides on a stock truck are extremely negligible. The difference a CAI makes on a modded truck would vary from truck to truck based on the mods each truck has and environmental conditions it's not even worth guessing. I can tell you though, horsepower wise, a CAI makes very little difference unless you're pushing crazy amounts of fuel and air. Guys have made WAY more than factory horsepower with a stock intake, lots of fuel and nitrous can overcome a lot. The factory intake isn't that restrictive.

@@JasonWaterfalls13 yea I get that. I’ve had a CAI on my 06 5.9 since 07. I’ve had it dynoed dozens of times with multitude of programmers, filters, nozzles, boost foolers, cp3 mods, injectors, cam, and turbos. I fully understand the difference a CAI can or can’t make. It’s not all about HP, some folks might want to see cooler egt, or higher boost based on change in air density. Not that a SB CAI would make that on a stock truck. I’ve seen an intake set up make a difference in spool up on my old WSB in my 04 with a quad I’ll programmer ( was brand new in 05, lol) I was simply saying he could have covered those things in his video. The egt and IAT would be as simple as using his CTS to data log and talk about the lack of a difference. Educate the people who don’t know. He was the one who wants to make better videos. The suggestions I made about adding additional easily obtained information would make the “review “ video better. The smart ass response isn’t appreciated. If he wants to grow his channel he should engage in conversation with his subscribers and be open to additional information.
