Love the channel, reminds me of myself when I was younger, unfortunately age keeps on going, I will be 81 soon. I used to clear out old orchards for a good friend of mine. I always enjoyed working a chainsaw and even had a screw type wood splitter that went on the back wheel, kind of dangerous but it worked. My dad would always want to come and help me, and we did this until his health deteriorated. Now I can’t do too much but I really enjoy your videos. Take care when you are working!!
This is my first time subscribing to anyone’s channel, I appreciate how detail oriented you are with your videos and the positive attitude you keep even when things break down(like your gooseneck). Keep up the great man!
Another great video. I am a DIY,’r I have a 2018 2500, my first Cummins, still have my old 02 F350 SRW 7.3. Now my service rig for my tractor, boom lift and KX080. I just started looking for a 6.7 5500 to tow my 080 and I really appreciate all the information I get from your videos. I bought a small 20 acre ranch above Auburn Ca a couple of years ago and decided to do my own land clearing. It’s led to several other projects and this old man (58) needs all the help and advice I can get. Thanks a million buddy, keep em coming, Ken Rocking K Ranch
The odds are you would still be ordering a new truck with the 5.9 if the emissions weren't there. The increase in displacement was because Dodge and Cummins knew the emissions would cripple the 5.9. I have both engines. A 05, 6 speed manual and a 09 automatic and a higher gear. The 09 had a 40hp chip and emissions delete. Before the delete I would say both trucks pulled pretty close. The delete woke the 09 right up and doubled the fuel mileage. My opinion, with the delete the 6.7 is a better engine. Without the delete I would rather stay with the pre-emission 5.9.
I have a 2008 6.7L 3500, 6 speed auto, H&S MiniMax, AFE Cold Air, 60HP over Injectiors, 5" straight pipe turbo back.... Nothing I can't haul with that! Love it!
Work&Play TV hahah I figured as much but idk what the smoke under his hood was all about haha jkjk thanks man! Really appreciate the support! Giving er my best trying to get into this RU-vid GAME Hah
V-BELT and SON Hahahahaha yeah yeah!! You bet buddy! I have some good stuff coming by computer shut the bed on me 3 days ago! Lol this was. Good video for you judging by the amount of comments and looks like you picked up like 20 subs today!
@@wewe000355619 technically it has an EGR but through the exhaust valve closing early but not junk coming off exhaust manifold to the intake. Next time your at a bar good way to win a bet saying 05-06.5 5.9's technically have a type of EGR.
Limited is mostly frilly stuff. Not much difference feature wise than my laramie 2500and if they hadn't of chopped the price I wouldn't have paid extra for the limited. Power fold mirrors, auto high beams, auto wipers is about the only things I really noticed.
Shane Burrell hmm I got the power folding mirrors. Love those things always worried in a parking lot about someone clipping one. Defiantly use those all the time. I can live without the auto lights and wipers ha
Love your video. Great job. I have had all 4 generations. As well as other makes. As a diesel mechanic, machinist and electrician I can certainly say that on a blue collar budget, nothing beats a 6.7 towing if deleted, tuned and studded. I might add that the 4th gens have super comfortable interiors on the long hauls.. However, on that same budget, nothing beats a 5.9/47re/48re at the drag strip/street/play truck. Many many reasons why.
Owned a 07 6.7 manual and I feel the 5.9 is inferior in every way. Both were 1 ton duallys but the 5.9 was that 3 speed with the overdrive transmission.
The dual wheels and the ring and pinion gear ratio differences help a lot more than you think. If both trucks were duallys and the rear end was geared the same then the test would be more interesting. Find someone with a dually 5.9 with the same rear end and try again. The ring and pinion difference can change how a truck performs night and day. The truck weight difference has less impact than you think. The best upgrade I ever did to my truck was change the ring and pinion ratio.
I just found you on U Tube and love your videos! I lust bought my first Cummins. 2005 5.9l 2500 48re and I really love it! I also like the 6.7 as well. Both are really awesome tow rigs. Having a new jacket with winter coming would be a real blessing! Keep up the great work!!! Thanks DC.
That’s a pretty clean jacket! Love your videos man it’s helped me learn quite a bit about the cummins. Curious what mods you recommend doing to your 5.9 first. Im looking to get a 5.9 to tow a rather small 5th wheel for full time travel.
Good video. No coal rolling BS. I have a second gen 5.9 and I’m happy with it but the extra displacement of the 6.7 gives a clear advantage. Both great trucks.
FutureRN_Corey _ exactly! They are awesome! New ram 3500 vid coming out soon and wow stock power in a new rig is unbelievable nowadays don’t wanna give it away but she pulls like a beast
I appreciate the video comparison. Cummins is great. I like that they don’t have all of the hidden electronics that tend to fail out of the competitor vehicles. Keep one thing in mind with comparisons, a 5500 will have a lot lower gear ratio than a 3500. The axle gearing will make a very significant difference in a comparison like this one. Not to say the 5.9 and 6.7 are comparable when speaking cubic inches. The delete is the win for what initially held the 6.7 back. They were choked down.
@@VBELTandSON Have you ever weighed your gooseneck? Just curious cause my 24' triple axle with a steel deck on the neck, 3"x8" decking, 2.5ft side boards, 12" I beam weighs in at 5000 pounds according to the CAT scales. 8k lbs seems a bit high to me for your gooseneck.
Man my 2018 with 20000 lbs halls a** you can see the gooseneck I pull live in quarters in front w/ tack room 3 horse slant loaded you blink twice and your doing 80 merging onto the fwy I’m talking flat ground not downhill I’m just amazed with the power of this truck it has a 4 link rear end with 2 coil springs guessing 10’ in diameter sitting on ea side of the pumpkin dropping that goose neck on the ball the back end only drops a 1/2” I was scared I was going to have to put airbags on the back unfortunately my truck has the def bs but I do have 100,000 mile warranty
Both engines are great. The 6.7 is a beast but the 5.9 is very reliable. Great looking trucks. Well taken care of. This is a huge compliment coming from a powerstroke owner (7.3). Thx for the video. 🇺🇸
I have an relatively low miles 03 regular cab long bed 2500 with the same transmission. It is a mean little truck, especially now that I have completely upfitted the suspension and swapped for 19.5' wheels. I also have a smarty touch, but I primarily use it for the instruments rather than for it's tuning capabilities, though it is nice to have the extra power if I need it.
I agree with Max , my first father in law had a trucking business , and he told me many years ago , that Cummins hands down was the best diesel engines on the road , Sooooo when bought a diesel 2500 , I picked me out a 2006 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L 4x4 and man I loved that truck , cruising at 60 with the cruise set I would get between 21-26 mpg , just a Super truck!!!
E. K. Oh I know exactly what you’re saying haha. More in add ons on my 04 then I paid for the truck. I don’t think I could afford to sell that rig haha and it’s my slowest truck now also ha
Great video - thank you for posting this. Given the mods to your truck (Smarty, MBRP etc.) I expect you usually tow with a higher HP program. I was wondering what program is usually in your 5.9 for towing and how that would perform pulling this load. Thank you. Bob.
Ive owned both and love the sound of the 5.9 and the MPG of a 5.9 also the ease of working on it... the 6.7, the 5.9 cant hold a candle too the 6.7 even with the same upgrades. They're both great engines!
Getting 23.2 in 5.9 with g56 tranny rite now. Don’t tow much. And if do it’s nothing crazy. That’s what the truck says for overall daily driving. Probably half and half on city and highway.
Great video, straight videos from hard working man.I have 06 2500 5.9 Cummins banks cold air ,banks cat back and hyper tec tuner and it runs great . I pull 13,000 lb 5th wheel camper all over and ulilitytrailor too. I was impressed with 5.9 s6.7 comparisons and both deleted and stock.love the channel and I'd be proud to wear your company logo jacket.
Jim T thank you! Means a lot! I will most likely be given out more than one jacket. If you don’t win I should be able to make a great deal on them and would like to sell them if all goes well. Also thank you for the positive comment! Really appreciate it!!
K Dub u can have mine with 121k miles after owning it for a while and not being a mechanic other than doing an oil change myself I hate paying double for everything
But owning a cummins is awesome having a loud truck when people try to back up onto the road and if they hear u they stop and wait for u to go since they probably think it’s a garbage truck or something and it’s pretty easy to maintain one too barely have to do shit but unfortunately I’m selling mine nothing is wrong with it I want something newer
I deliver wall stone and firewood for my cousin, he owns a stock 2016 Dodge 3500 with 6.7 cummins. I have been hauling equipment for 20 years now with all different set ups. Powerstroke, Dmax, and 5.9 cummins, yet i still have not come across a better pick up to haul weight with than the 6.7 cummins. I enjoyed your video. Both great trucks, but the 6.7 is an animal.
Great job Sam, as always another outstanding tutorial video for the working man. Cummins Guys will enjoy watching similarly prepared work trucks, perform competitive tasks. Haven't seen anyone else with the proper resources to do this. Thanks for this dose of reality, might be a red pill for the GM and Ford Guys. By the way, nice shout out to Alberalla at Wrenchworkz.
hazegreyghost thank you so much I really appreciate that! Just trying to make videos I would like to see. So glad other like them as well! And yea I hope Greg peeps this video! He is the man!
Dang good vid buddy!! The 6.7s are tow monsters!! Regardless of which one is picked, Cummins for life🙌🏼🤘!! Awesome coat as well! Be more then happy to rep one of those!
Those look like awesome jackets! Does being so much heavier really help in a speed test like that? I don't know a ton about hauling but do you think if it was a 5.9 5500 vs a 6.7 2500 the 5.9 would have won?
JD Kirane naw the 6.7 has so much more in the tank. I’ve owned 4 5.9 common rail trucks and I was taken away at how much more throat the 6.7 has. But I do wish I had two truck identical to test with but only got what I got :/ and 2000lbs is a big weight when you hit the scales and it’s overloaded but towing i can tell a difference with that extra weight if it were on the trailer
Jay Gregory yea bone stock g56 trucks now ain’t got a lot in the tank. Derated big time. I just finished the edit for the 08 deleted vs bone stock new ram 3500 with aisin. And ya new truck wants to play right off the start!
I work in the Bakken but have a house in Sacramento. Have a H&S Mini Max on my 2012 2500 with G56, but really need a new clutch in it. (142 k on the OEM clutch) and have a 4" exhaust and EGR delete waiting to go on it as well, but will do that when I put a new clutch in it.
I dont see how. If thays the case then the 7.3 would be beating the newest vehicles now. It doesnt matter how much you displace more so than how you displace it.
Just joined. Myself and my son's there are five rams in our family, not one darn diesel!!! Hoping to take care of that situation soon. Thank you for sharing. Awesome job on passing the info on.
the following comment is from an old timer ( 73 ) maybe 800 million miles over the road. (retired at over 600 with no accidents) now i part time airfreight at a very high rate so i dont fly often. but thats ending too. jesus here i come. so here is my opinion. next
Thank you for the informational video. The Cummins is the tru work horse on the road. Looking forward to more posts about the 6.7, keep up the good work. 👍👍
Some good info brother. Thanks. I just bought my first diesel (a 2018 Dodge 2500 6.7 Laramie Sport) and will never go back to gas. It is one fine truck man.
As I own 02 with 5.9 cummins I'd put it up with the 6.7 as good of a pulling truck it has some modifications but none to drastic I tow a 32 foot tag along camper with duel slide outs an I've pull several mountains an never had any complaints ! It's a six speed manual trans stock an stock rear ends ! Great pulling truck !
My truck has 265600 miles ! You mentioned in your video bout a South Bend duel disc clutch I've been trying to decide if I should go with that next time I clutch mine ?
6.7 is better except for all that emissions equipment. I have a 5.9 since it is easier to keep it emissions legal. Do the 2 trucks have the same rear end gears?
I thought that too. So I went 5.9 manual when I bought my truck 3 years ago, but now I wish I had gone with the 6.7 manual. You can do such much more with them now, than even 3 years ago.
I had an 08 6.7 manual for 9 years, it did very well, not one issue with the drive train. Too many front end issues though so I recently traded it in for a new 6.7 manual and it's better.
I Had an 08, 6.7, 6sp. 3500 4x4. Sold it at 85k miles. Largest load ever was 20ft stock trailer full of cattle, normal load was 16ft horse trailer. Yes, it pulled like a freight train. And, Yes, I know how to drive. 9 (!!!) rear shaft u-joints. steering/front end total rebuild twice. rear axle bearings replaced twice. catalytic converter clogged/burned o2 sensors. edge deltete kit cost Half of factory repair. economy tune (+20hp) killed the clutch. Traded for 04 5.9, 6sp. which now has 250k miles. Only repairs to date were water pump, hvac blend doors, and in-tank fuel pump.
Still have the early '96 12 valve with NV4500. It is at 450k+ miles and sadly the truck has disintegrated around the powertrain. Engine leaks everywhere now, 3rd grinds, but she will still pull anything without a whimper. Time for a rebuild and s transplant into something fun.
Sam Garofalo ****And its safer. dualys dont give u rear end swing which leads to jackknife&flip over You should also avoid large tires too because they bend sideways. low profile have less sideways roll.
Cummins 5.9 is amazing I do a lot with it and it's got over 200 thousand and ain't had nothing to go wrong ..ain't had 6.7 yet. . really like you takeing time to show on RU-vid thanks
A bit disappointed in my 5.9 I recently acquired. Got a great deal on an immaculate 06 with 128K miles. The truck was like it was off the show room. Took her on a 2500 mile road trip with the 11K travel trailer purchasing the super tuner and K&N intake. Did much better on the inclines without beating the hell out of her. Came home, on the freeway empty at around 80mph and seized the engine. Will not budge. Still have to get the pan off to take a good look at the journals but she is done. All this after replacing the Duramax. Too bad......
I found this channel because I’m looking for a tow rig for my horse trailer. After observing the newer diesels and their very high maintenance costs (DEF, EGR) I’m leaning towards a 5.9 and build it. Plus the newer trucks are very expensive. So, I’m heavily leaning towards a 5.9 with a manual 6-speed.
jwxfd Honestly that’s a good choice. Can’t go wrong with a 5.9. I love them. I would recommend a G 56 manual trans. Better shift pattern and it shifts a lot smoother. 05-07 truck is the best bet for one. Mod should do on one of those is the lift pump get one with some filters and protect that engine. I run FASS on all mine. And new trucks do cost way to much but I’m hoping warranty take care of any issues 😬 good luck on your truck search. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks
I figure I can buy/build it for 1/3 of the cost of a new one....only things Id wouldnt be getting is a factory warranty and the modern amenities. Which to some is worth the ~$70k. Me? Not so much. As far as the trans is concerned, Im mostly selecting the 6-speed manual due to ratio stacks and reliability, considering the fact the 4-speed auto from that era is less than optimal for towing and far from reliable. If I can get my hands on a more modern auto, Id go that route, but would be quite pricey in the acquisition and build
Just found your channel, strong work. I love my 07 5.9, bought it specifically because it didn't have the emissions crap. BUT, if I ever need long block work, a 6.7 will be going in it :-)
Chicken Eye Productions exactly they had their time but new stuff is beast. And thank you. If all goes well I would like to offer up those jackets for sale at some point
Sam, never a dull video since day one. Ten “star’s “ for such a terrific effort. I look forward with great anticipation for your next video, and the next, and the next ........ Mate, your Dad’s great, betcha can’t get him to talk a little more? Continued wealth and good health to all. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄
this is awesome brotha, your right on with the emissions and the problems that arise. it scares people away even though without all that stuff its still the same old oil burner 🙃
I’ve got a 2017 6.7 Cummins now with the 68RFE trans and I used to have a work truck that was a 2006 5.9 with the 68RFE in it. The only thing I liked better about the 5.9 was no emissions equipment
Enjoyed you’re video. Had a 93 5.9 with the getrag trans. for 20 years loved it. It’s still going strong with my sons buddy. New paint, springs and further engine mods. Took it all around the western US and many off road Baja trips. Bought a used 12, 6.7 with a 68rfe trans. Pretty cushy compared to the 93. Tons of power in stock mode but the fuel mileage can’t compare. Need more fuel capacity before Baja. Loaned my 12 to my son when I was out of town. His Ford gasser was T boned by a DUI and totaled. When I got home we flew to Salt Lake where he bought a 13, 2500 6.7. He just went to Mammoth for a fishing tournament and dusted an Audi on the Sherwin Grade. Of course he had to call and tell me.
R G DEGREGORI hahah I love it! Those new trucks are great! Like a big gocart! I had a guy tail gating me the other day when I was coming home from the track towing my enclosed trailer. Guy passed me on double yellow and next passing lane up a steep grade that new truck while towing a trailer ate up the empty Chevy gasser. Love having all that power even when towing a trailer ha. Thanks for sharing your story!!🤟🏻
Love the channel and your trucks nothing like a white truck with black wheels. Saving to buy my very own 6.7 6 speed. Like your wrench work hoodie too. Keep the great content coming man!
I have an 08 6.7 and pull a 12,000lb camper and its almost as if it isn't there. It used to pull an 11000lb excavator on a 5 to 6 thousand pound trailer and it never failed. I love my Cummings 6.7
You need a cowboy hat brotha;) haha I can't wait to get a 3rd gen cummins. Specially for my welding equipment, I been wanting an 07 to 08 for the longest time lmao great video ! Be safe out there!
Thanks for all the info. I own a small mulching business as well. I’m pulling a 15k lbs machine on a dual tandem gooseneck with a stock 1 ton. Your information is very helpful to a young mulching business owner. Just remember if you enjoy making the videos don’t pay the haters any attention. I would like to see where you guys carry tools to the job in a future video if you get the time. Greetings from South Caronlina.
Aaron Gasque thank you! I love doing towing videos. Doesn’t seem like slot of ppl film the hauling in and out of jobs. But for sure see more vids doing that!
Reading the comments is sad , it's not ever going to be a 1/1 perfect fair test but all the little things are still not gonna effect the results that much fantastic video!! :)
I have a 2008 3500 6.7 flatbed dually with everything deleted including crankcase filter and grid heater. Straight pipe 5" all the way, South bend dual disk, h&s tuner, banks cold air intake, after market all aluminum radiator, 180° thermostat instead of the factory 190°. The most I have pulled with mine, so far, is a 18'000 lb track hoe sittin on a 10 ton rated tag along, no gooseneck. She would run 80 mph up interstate 85 with plenty left. Oh and it has 344,000 miles on it with the factory turbo, factory cp3 pump and factory injectors, with no fass system yet. I won't have another truck, done blown 2 Fords. Nice video.
Nicholas Ball hell ya that’s a solid truck! Should get the FASS asap that will complete it. That great to hear the miles yours has and still holding it down. My 08 have 55k. It’s a baby I got a mishimoto 180 thermostat and the all aluminum radiator as well. Almost s must if towing often
Wicked videos, Love the trucks. I have an old second gen 12 valve in the garage that I'm looking to throw a six speed into. Your videos have been super helpful thanks!
