I have some ideas on how to improve, but I always like to hear second opinions and critique... I rarely have people giving me any feedback on my videos. avoid them, but i would rather hit the animal then going off the road. But out of hundreds of deer that jumped out on me i only had to hit 3 and was going slow enough for them to get away alive. So if one jumps out 99% chance nothing will happen.

Not too bad, 6 tress came down along the road in the video..you can see where if you look closely. But we had them cleared the night before.

No cars totaled, no accidents, no dents, no ticket. A few scratches in the front from driving through or too close to bushes. But you are right, those roads are the most dangerous I have seen myself. Most dangers you don’t even know as an outsider, you only know once you saw it - and got away. That’s probably what I like about it, besides loud engine sound and the feel of freedom. The danger in those roads mostly lies in a lack of knowledge. If you don’t know the corner, then it’s dangerous. But if you know exactly, where you can see between trees, who, how and when people living there drive, where the driveways are, how fast you can go in a blind corner before you won’t be able to brake or swerve if there is a hazard in the road. The best and safest way to apex a corner based on all factors that are different for every corner, and there is a very high number of factors to consider. Which corner can you cut safely, and which you can’t? What things are especially important in which corner, and what do you need to look and watch out for? Or another point is, I am very good and practice every day to drive as close to the roadedge as possible. The car is pretty narrow and I have perfect judgement of width and control of tire placement, and have no problem to drive with only half a tire on the roadedge if need to be. I do that for fun whenever I’m stuck behind somebody that goes speed limit. In order to have a head on collision, the other driver would have to be completely in the wrong lane. And even then, I automatically slam the brakes as soon I see any signs of another car, so I would be going pretty slow at impact. So unless the other driver is speeding like a maniac, it would be a low speed accident, and it would definitely not be my fault. I am in fact very worried about other people doing just that, that’s why I made sure i am only going a speed in every corner, that will allow me to not be at fault if something would happen. I don’t make big mistakes like that, I make sure any head on would be the other drivers fault. Besides that, I would go off the road or in the ditch If that’s an option, did it before. And I’d hit a tree if necessary. It is unlikely that I hit anyone, any way you look at it. Also you can see me flashing the headlights in front and through many corners. One reason is for me to see if there are any oncoming headlights shining around the corner - the other reason is to warn any possible idiot that I’m coming through. And I really don’t need a lot of space, if anybody manages to hit me, they would be driving in the wrong lane. And it would be low speed because I always slam the brakes if I see another car, no matter what. And I still flash my lights at 3 am, I don’t care if there is nobody around. It’s those safety rules I set and I don’t break them. Most people don’t think about those things, but it is a science and for me very important to be good at it. So there are a lot of things that determine the exact speed I go at a certain point in time. If you watch the video, you don’t know the road. It probably looks very fast and dangerous to you, because you can’t understand how dangerous it actually is, because you don’t know the road, the car or the driver - and you don’t know the true speed. For me, if i watch this video it looks rather slow and safe. I know the road like the back of my hand, and can judge the actual danger. I even followed the school bus and know where the hand full of children live and how old they are, so I know exactly where to watch out for them - i have never seen them on the roads yet, but I always go a notch slower in the sections they live, just in case. And I don’t make exceptions, not even at 3 AM. I’ll be going faster for sure, but when passing through an area where I have seen a kid once, I always drive slower and with double caution after that just in case, even at Night years later. It doesn’t matter what kind of possible danger or hazard I encounter on the road, if I detect a possible hazard or danger, I will always consider it in my driving from there on and expect it to happen again at any time, and have strategies. Also i never go full speed. I have set speed limits for each corner and straightaway based on individual risk and danger and don’t surpass that limit to have a cushion for errors. And that limit also changes depending on time of day, year, weather and my own condition. During daytime I’m fast too, probably the fastest on average, but still way slower then at night because of the different set of dangers. Only when I’m racing somebody i would. drive without those limits, but that happens rarely and is usually over pretty quick. Especially in this video I’m slower then usual because of all the branches on the road and since it’s early morning already, I’m not the only one on the road anymore. If it was late at night I would have probably been around 20% faster, if I was racing recklessly over 30%. Don’t forget I’m a good driver as well, and I’m all for speed limits if I watch the average person drive. But the actual speed a driver can safely travel, depends on the individual driver and a thousand factors. Somebody might be safe at 20 mph on that road, somebody else might be just as safe at 60 mph. It all depends on a lot of things. The real definition for a good driver is not how fast he goes or how many tricks he has up his sleeve, a true good driver only knows what the limits are, and doesn’t break those. If you get from a to b consistently without having problems, you are a good driver. A good driver is like a judge, judging as many factors as possible and determine the best and safest - maybe even fastest - way to get wherever he needs to go. A bad driver, is a driver that misjudges. Everytime you misjudge, you are a bad driver. And I have misjudged a lot in the past, but only minor and I’ve gotten a lot better, especially on these roads. It has been a long time that I misjudged something big, sometimes I realize that there might be a better way to approach and apex a certain corner. For the average person, all those things are pretty irrelevant. They drive by the rules, don’t break the speed limit, and don’t waste a second thought on road safety or all those little things that come to play. And they are somewhat safe at speed limit, it’s slow enough for them to have time to react whenever somebody, or especially themselves, mess up. And it barely requires any knowledge, skill or reaction times, you just drive speed limit and stay within the white lines, play candy crush and you’ll probably be fine. And you don’t need to care, as long you follow the law nothing is your fault right? Wrong! I have a lot more skill then the average driver, and I spend so much time thinking about all those little things, refining skill and technique and trying to find the perfect line. I still haven’t killed a deer, but avoid literally hundreds of them every year. The average driver has probably a 50/50 chance to hit the next deer that jumps out...and I go twice as fast - and even if I happen to kill one today, the chance that I kill another one would still be well under 1% every time one jumps out on me. If you would determine how safe a driver is, based on how many % of deer that jump out he hits or kills, based on that statistic that would put me pretty far on top of the list of safe drivers in my area. Most people I watch driving, I can tell just by the line and how they are driving, that they have no clue of what they are doing. Some shouldn’t even be driving speed limit if you ask me, but some can go faster and be just as safe. There really is a lot, and a lot more, that would determine how safe or dangerous my, or anyones driving really is. And it is impossible to judge that, just by watching a video. And I’m definitely not a perfect driver, I made and still make a lot of mistakes. But mistakes get more rare and smaller. I consider it a mistake to be a quarter inch off the exact line I want to be..I don’t make major mistakes. I’m afraid of freak incidents, something happens that is so rare to happen, that I don’t see it coming or don’t know how to react because it has never happened before. Mechanical failure on the vehicle. But what should I know, I don’t even know what there might be to know. But I always adjust my speed to how I feel, how fast my reactions are at any given time, and where I am. If I am extremely tired youll see me going half the speed limit. I only go fast, if I know that my reactions are on point. Sometimes my reactions are not good - I am not going fast that day. I keep my hands on the wheel at all times, I never use my phone while driving. I have established rules to drive fast, and I always follow the rules. I don’t look at the clock, I don’t look at the speedometer. I know how fast I am without looking, and I won’t be getting there faster by knowing what time it is. No distraction, full concentration. I always look on the road, 100% of the time I am scanning the road left to right for anything there might be, and so far that has saved me 100% of the time. That alone is something, more people should try - But there isn’t really a point in doing that, if you don’t go as fast as you want. Speed limit is just too boring to try to be a good driver. Whenever I’m forced to drive speed limit, I’ll do it with one or maybe two fingers, thinking about life and not paying too much attention. Is that safe? I like it more when I decide how fast I go, that’s something worthy my full attention - and maybe just as safe for that exact reason. I coud writ her al dy lng, but Text limit. It’s just important to know, that speed and danger is all relative. That doesn’t mean I’m right, I might be misjudging myself big time, but the principle must be right. And if somebody was right about himself, only time can tell that.

Yes I spend a lot of time trying to minimize risk, especially for other people which in return reduces risk for me. Only drive like that very late at night when there is no one else around. And even if there is nobody else for hundreds of miles, I still stay in my lane, go slower in the tightest corners and flash the highbeams to make sure there is nobody behind the corner and as warning, just in case. I’m actually the only one around here that does that, and the only one that drives that close to the road edge. I follow certain rules and never ever break them, for safety. Strictly following rules reduces the risk of doing something stupid greatly. Also know every corner very well, some you can see between trees and some you can’t, and many other things like driveways to watch out for etc.. I could write a book about safety and hazards on roads like this. On the other hand I’m terrible at city driving. I have spend a lot of time creating the best line and best speed for every corner, where I’m as fast as possible while still being able to fully stop or swerve if a deer jumps out, a tree fell across the road or whatever hazard is on the road. And so far things like that happened hundreds of times and it always worked out. I’m roughly driving the same line and same speed every time, never faster then what I deemed as safe enough for each section of the road and conditions. And always rethinking, refining and adjusting that line and speed considering new factors I come across. Also, there are already a bunch of lights on the car, it has some bright ass lights. It’s the camera that makes everything look darker then it really is. But I also have some more lights already here, only need to put em on ;) Also watching the video with that camera position, stopping distance seems longer then it is in real life and everything looks a Little faster. next video I might slam the brake pedal and do a full stop to give a better idea. I don’t think it is safe compared to driving speed limit, but it is rather safe and very calculated. It is not racing, I don’t try to drive as fast as possible, but to drive as fast as possible while still being somewhat safe and considering and anticipating all risks someone might come across on these roads, to my best knowledge. And some risks only happened once to me, a chance less then 0.01% to happen again, but still severe enough for me to adjust my driving to better deal with it should it happen again. Of course I am not able to deal with absolutely every risk possible. There are a handful of places on the road, if a tree would happen to fall in that exact spot i could brake but still hit it at low speed, but chances are very slim and the chance of serious injury even slimmer. Somebody else with slower reactions would probably hit it at similar speed as I would. Of course there are other scenarios where I can’t avoid an accident, but risks are not a lot higher then for other people. The most life threatening risks come from the car itself I think, I am most afraid of brake/steering/headlight malfunction or wheels falling off. And in practice, a flat or not fully inflated tire or lose lug nuts are the most dangerous thing! Also important I always factor in my own current condition and reaction times, which can vary throughout the day. If my reactions are slower I’m driving slower, if they are faster I’m driving faster. When it comes to high speed crashes, it’s also a mental thing. People that go fast tend to become overconfident, going faster and faster over time. And then one day they cross the line and go too fast and crash. I am always watching myself, and when I notice I become too fast, I take a break and drive slow for a few weeks to get back on the floor. Also emotions play a huge role and affect driving, if you feel any emotions you shouldn’t drive fast at the time. Only being slightly aggressive/determined seems to improve driving, but also poses the risk of doing something stupid. It is important to establish a line and then stop if you notice you are crossing it. There are so many things to consider I really could write a book, it’s not just driving around, there is a science behind it. The road, the car, the driver. But I am still learning, so it doesn’t mean nothing will ever happen, but I’m trying to avoid it and improve my strategy, often that means to take a step back and realize mistakes. For me it is all about getting fast from A to B without crashing, not about adrenaline or a kick. My heartrate is normal around 80 when making these videos. But I’m thinking about getting into actual racing at some point, that way I could drive as fast I really can in a controlled and safe manner, without having to hold back. But that’s nothing i would ever do on a public road. In fact I did it once when racing another car. I beat him, but decided to never do anything like that again on a public road. It was plain stupid. Both of us regretted and never done it since, but boy I did not know the car can go that fast.

@@DMAX-tp4pc How do you know no one else drives late at night? Or is walking along the road for that matter? I'm not questioning your driving skills but I am often walking along such roads at night. And I am usually dressed in black.

That person is the only one I’ve ever seen, and always same time same place. During day there are more people walking, but at night not. There aren’t many people living there, and there is nowhere to go anyway. Also there is no through traffic. Literally only people that live there, drive there. And I somewhat now most of them. People that live here know not to walk on that road at night. If you walk there, I’m the least of your worries anyway. I have good reactions and the brightest lights. Wait until an old Dodge Ram comes around the corner with dim headlights and all over the lanes because the driver is drunk. That’s dangerous and the real reason you don’t want to walk there. There are a few people that sometimes walk their dogs at night, but I know where they live and where they walk. For example in the very end is an area I have seen people walk their dog before once or twice, which is why I go slow. The majority of people living there is old and retired, there simply are no young people for example that might walk around late at night. No teenagers that are awake at night, only grandpas that are sleeping. But most important I especially keep an eye out for humans and always expect one to appear, even if you can go a year without seeing one. I played all the scenarios of what to do if I see one over and over, and let me promise you before I hit a human I put my car In a tree or off a cliff, whatever it takes. If I see humans I automatically steer away as far as possible, and I wouldn’t think twice about crashing my car on purpose if that’s what I need to do to avoid someone else’s harm. That actually is an automated response that I trained myself to do. If I see humans, I automatically steer away as far as possible, and only *after* that I use my brain to determine the situation. Deer are the other way around, i react to deer *after* accessing the situation, I react to humans *before* that. So if I see a human I steer away without even having to think about it, it’s an automated reaction. You see, that way I would crash before hitting a human. As soon I see one, the human will automatically get the highest possible priority, with the only goal to avoid the human no matter what. That way I end up in a tree if that should be the only way to go, and don’t have to think about anything or make decisions, only one thought “avoid human at all cost”. Deer are the other way around, they don’t get top priority. Before reacting to a deer, I actually *think* and access the situation. I would definitely hit a deer before crashing the car. Avoiding deer is a lot more complex and complicated, the thought process and reaction is not as simple as “avoid human no matter what”. The human thing is basically a safety protocol- reaction that activates automatically and doesnt require any second thoughts, thus can be deployed immediately and without delay. I trained that and only use it for humans, it would be useless to use on deer tho. You can kinda see it in the beginning of the video, the moment I see him I automatically swooped in the other lane and reduced speed, without even thinking about it and with no delay in reaction time. The reason I did not fully stop or went in the ditch is, that i accessed the situation after/during the automated swerve and brake and determined that the person is far enough away to cancel the automated response. Also, I trained dozens of automated responses for different scenarios to reduce reaction times, and so far I have never responded to a situation in the wrong way. Programming automated reactions into the brain for different scenarios plays a big role in risk management, and I do it a lot to cut down on reaction times. But that’s something I know most people don’t do, but it really reduces risk by *a lot* if you know how to properly program automated responses into your brain. Also I don’t care if I need to crash the car, that’s probably gonna happen anyway and I got it cheap and have more cars that I can use, wouldn’t think twice about crashing if I need to. In fact crashing it would only mean more spare parts for the next car, so in that matter I would totally crash the car if needed to. I mean I’m thinking about that stuff for a long time, crashing is part of it. When the time comes it comes, but the last thing I’m gonna do is hit somebody else, that really is the one and only thing I’m afraid of, and I did everything I could possible do to reduce that risk. Also think about it this way, I have avoided hundreds of deer on the road, and they actively tried to jump in front of my car. If I can avoid all deer, humans don’t even jump in your car, so If I can avoid all them deer humans shouldn’t be a problem. Out of hundreds I hit only 3 deer, reason being I was going downhill on gravel and couldn’t brake or swerve properly because it was so slippery. But even then I managed to hit them in a way that made them survive - And again, humans don’t jump out behind trees 2 seconds before you are there, you should have *a lot* more time reacting to a human, and also shouldn’t worry about humans jumping out behind trees. I know it’s dangerous, but considering how others drive, and how successful I am at avoiding deer and other dangers, I feel pretty safe. Also I went around and identified all corners that might cause a dangerous situation at some point, or can become dangerous if multiple things happen at the same time. Then I developed strategies to deal with those situations should they ever occur, and I’m always anticipating it and am prepared in case it should ever happen. In fact I use lots of individualized strategies for different corners, because every corner has different factors that come to play, and every corner has a different level of risk that needs its own strategies. For me it’s all about risk management, and in many corners during day or in populated areas I drive under the speedlimit and slower then most other people, because I think the risk is too high for other people. But late at night far away from anyone else, in the last and most hidden corner I can find, I think most of the risk is all on me. I know there is always a risk, but I’m not driving topspeed or anything like that. In that video I drive about 20% below topspeed, to accommodate for any risks that might happen considering the time of day. All i know is, I’ve seen lots of other people drive, and I’ve noticed how bad most of them are at driving. Even going half as fast as me, most are still more likely to hit a deer. I noticed I can go a lot faster then the average person and still be just as safe or safer. Of course that’s bullshit after a certain speed, but I try not to go faster then what I think I can handle over time without being at much higher risk then the average driver. Also keep in mind, the camera and perspective is set up to make things look fast. In reality, I’m going slower, have more time to react and a shorter way to brake, then what you *think* just by watching the video. In the end of the day I could talk forever and speeding would still be dangerous for me and anyone else no matter what I say, but I can justify it to myself and that’s good enough for me. If you are dressed in black I highly recommend using a flashlight. I have lights bright enough to see you even when you are black, but most people don’t. (My lights are a lot brighter then on video, I can literally see just as good at night as during day). The dressed black thing is especially dangerous if two cars come from each direction. The car coming on your side will be blinded by the other car, and not have a chance in the world to see you. So If you get hit, it probably wouldn’t be the drivers fault. That also is one reason why I always slow down *below* speed limit when passing other cars, because I always fear that there might be a black clothed person on the side of the road that I can’t see because I’m blinded by the other car. I call that common sense, but you might be surprised to know that 90% of people don’t even think that far, or don’t care But the dressed black thing without flashlight Is really dangerous and in fact around here the single most dangerous situation to occur around here, I have witnessed lots of close calls in those situations. I myself never had that problem, but nobody else has lights that bright (and illegal), which is why I’m probably the only one that doesn’t have that problem. But I always send prayers for everyone else, and i always offer a ride when I see somebody walking at night, because I’m actually concerned about others. If you say that is still too dangerous, I totally understand that. Driving slower is always safer, no matter how good you can drive. But I just like being fast, and I try the best I possibly can to avoid the harm of other people, and being reckless is the last thing I want to be when exercising my hobby/passion. That’s really all that is to it, in my spare time I like fast driving and ping pong, I’m a nice person besides that.
