The problem with a number of the comments so far is people assume that all of history would have been the same up until some arbitrary time like the Cold War and then consider the implications of a land bridge from there. In reality, if such a land bridge HAD existed, it would have completely changed world history so much that it would be impossible to predict anything. The United States and Russia as we know them would never even have existed. Entirely different civilizations would have arisen instead. The European countries might never have been able to colonize them and become so powerful.

Yeah, a very bad trait that many RU-vid AH writers such as Cody possess is a complete lack of respect for the point of divergence, which to those who don't know is the part in history where ours ends and the alternate timeline begins. While it is okay to have some things stay the same so as long as they're near the POD and they don't contradict any other part of the timeline, in the case of changed landmasses which would require a POD going back as far as hundreds of thousands to millions of years, it's not okay.
@dr58885
@dr58885 9 лет назад
Firebrand Well RU-vid isn't exactly a hub for intellectuals. Alternate History videos are just for amusement so the finer details do not matter as much as you want it to be.
@cosmokramer833
@cosmokramer833 9 лет назад
AerospaceDG2 You do know that YT AH writers are becoming very popular and many up and coming AH writers (myself included, thanks Cody) have gotten into the genre through AH RU-vidrs? There is no place where writing quality standards do not hold, you either write good or you write badly. Alternatehistoryscript is garbage, Cody is kinda meh.

@danmenard6917
@danmenard6917 8 лет назад
+MagnumForce51 There'd still likely be ice the closer you got to the south pole, but if we're assuming the climate is temperate around the coastline... potentially tribal people who relied on fishing and clubbing (seals) for food and clothing... I do not believe they'd come together into a single country though, at the very least it'd be similar to Africa or Central Europe, with everything broken up into smaller countries all along the coastlines. Things would get very cramped and crowded, and they'd go to war against each other for territory expansion.

There are a number of anecdotal and experiential evidences that it WAS, indeed, inhabited by highly advanced ET beings. (See Linda Moulton-Howe's latest, interview with Navy Seal(s), who investigated a basalt structure with 8' walls, that went 2 miles down, and is 70 degrees, year round.) AND, the recently released onto yt, documentation by Admiral Richard Byrd of his abduction by a benign ET race, living in a paradisical, warm climate in Antartica, that was concerned because of the 2 bombs dropped on Japan.

I can see three groups inhabiting this new Green Antarctica #1 the Malaysians because they're some of the Best sailors and would probably figure out that there is lands to the south of them (remember in our timeline the discovered Madagascar)#2 The Australian Aboriginals because they had already discovered Tasmania so they'd probably keep on expanding south and last but not least the south Americans to be more specific the tribes that once inhabited Chile and Argentina

most of the continent mentioned in the video sunk as the sea level rose, however part of them still exist today, Malay peninsula, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo are used to be in the same continent, that's why Austronesian (or some people call it Polynesian) people live and spread out all over the archipelagoe. the name itself indeed came from the Sudanese people who live in the western part of Java island (one of the greater Sunda islands), Indonesia.

If Sahul never got broken into smaller pieces, then the Aborigines might have gotten more resources and therefore might have become more developed then they did in our timeline to the point where they'd be more like the Native tribes in the Americas. If Mu existed, I can see it colonized by Oriental and Polynesian peoples, have several kingdoms that fight each other and rise and fall until the continent's united under an Oriental-Polynesian empire that dominates the pacific and has colonies in Australasia and the Americas. They engage in trade with the Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, Japanese, Chinese and others. During the time of the Mongols, the Mu Empire forms an alliance with the Japanese and threatens war with the Mongols controlling China if they try to invade Japan. The Mongols refuse to listen and invade anyway only to have their navy smashed by a joint Japanese/Mu fleet and then the Mu launch coastal raids on the Mongol's holding in China forcing them to sue for peace which speeds up the collapse of the Mongol presence in China. Later, having a strong rival keeps the Chinese from turning inwards like in our timeline and when the Europeans show up in force, they'll find a strong China and a strong Mu. Then the Europeans and Americans will form alliances to use against one another and eventually if World War I breaks out, the Chinese and Mu will take sides against each other and fight.
@girlgarde
@girlgarde 9 лет назад
***** Very well, then the Mu still help the Japanese repel the Mongols that DO make it to Japan's shores and then launch coastal raids on Mongol-controlled China.

An Alt History based on Doggerland sticking around would be interesting to look into. Or rather, the bit where it was flooded in the last Ice Age, but wasn't sunk via magma displacement. Would it be a third island of Britain? An extension of the Netherlands? Scandinavia? how would it play out in the various European conflicts of the past millennium?

LoL, Napoleon's army would have been the best at dealing with weather conditions. They would have to cross a Frozen Siberia, an almost barren Mongolian Desert, Chinese Meadows and well the Chinese themselves, Southeast Asian Jungles, and then Australia with the Arid Jungles and Massive Desert in between the North and South. But that still be cool. Would Australia be called "Napoleon Land""
@cosmokramer833

It's a safe bet that "Britain" doesn't exist in a world where Doggerland does. An immensely major aspect of the Ethnogenesis of Englishmen, Scots and Celts was GB's relative isolation from the rest of Europe. So none of them exist in this alternate timeline. Napoleon wouldn't exist either since the point of divergence would be eons away from his birth.

Well, If the Bering strait was still land, It could have been the location for the greatest stand-off of the Cold War with America against the USSR. It could have been more militarized than the Berlin wall and the 38th parallel. Two things could have happened One, the "Bering Strait Wall" (as I'm calling it) would have been like the Berlin Wall, and eventually collapse with the collapse of the USSR and the creation of Russia. However, it would be still guarded because of old Cold War distrust. Two, This could be the place of the longest war in history, with the USSR and America constantly fighting. There would be a no-man's land of ice and corpses. The USSR would have probably still existed a little longer. Maybe one of the sides would make an invasion across the Bering Strait. So what do you guys think?
@joes4866
@joes4866 9 лет назад
If it existed, then the Amerindians would have access to metals to make better weapons, animals and plants suitable for large-scale domestication, and Old World or Eastern technology. This would result in a harder time for European colonization and may also create an empire in western North America
@gregbilotta2472
@gregbilotta2472 9 лет назад
True but like if the Bering Strait happened like the 1890's, the thing I posted before would probably happen. Your thing is good because its like if the Bering Strait is there since the beginning pretty much. So like maybe Native Federation in the North and Aztec Empire in the South? That sure would be a War. Get the Spanish supporting the Aztecs and the French or English supporting the North.....what do you think about that?

It's interesting to see what this world would look like, the VAST majority of the land would be in the pacific. what's unfortunate is that we cant see what it would look like with the same amount of water because I would heavily assume the water level would be much different.

My thoughts on if Bringia existed, During the time of the Ming Dynasty in China they would expand northward for whatever reason, hearing of this land from Manchuria or Siberian people. They see the land as a possibility to spread the Chinese empire to a new and wonderful land. But then the Ming began to fall half way through colonizing Alaska, Oregon and California. What ever new dynasty that would rise up would either continue their expansion in to the Americas or not care enough to do anything but in this timeline I would say they would colonize the entirety of the west coast. Then when Russia starts there expansion westward they eventually reach china. Who own the lands of Manchuria, Korea and Siberia which would cut their full expansion short. I don't know when but then Russian would invade China for Siberia and Manchuria. Russia would win then they would come across this fictional land bridge and say "Why the fuck not?" and they would continue to expand. Taking over the colonized that the Chinese made causing more wars between Russia and China. Russia even continues to move south in to Mexico and other areas focusing on the new world greatly. The other countries of the world have also been colonizing and then sense Russia is pushing so far in to Mexico and the American west and creates friction with the Spanish and French. The Thirteen colonizes are also around at this time and it in drawing near to the American revolution. When the American revolution would occur the Russian's remain neutral and the war plays out the same way it did with the USA winning and Britain having the cede their colonizes. Also France has the same problems and is plunged in to debt like before. In an attempt to make their money back the Russians offer the French a decent amount of money to get the great plains. The French accept and it helps them with their debt. The French revolution still occurs but with their newly found cash the French monarchy manages to stay in control. Now Russia owns the entire American West, Canadian Western, Alaska and Northern Mexico. Russia then becomes a colonial power but because of the American Revolution many of its Colonize want freedom as well. So then Russia under goes having the deal with it's own revolutions but they lose and the California Republic Forms which owns. Baja California, The American great Plains, Oregon, Washington. As time went on Russia colonized some more land in Canada and Islands of the Pacific but they needed to recover from their debt with losing and fighting their war over their colonies. Russia itself then has some revolutions hurting the country even more but they manage to keep the weak monarchy in power. Then back in the New World the American west if predominantly Russian and Chinese obviously. But the California Republic eventually gets in the way of the American expansion west. They fight multiple wars England and Russia joining in ever once in awhile to try and regain land but in the End America takes all of the land the California republic owned this includes Baja California and parts of Canada. America under goes its civil war but it ends more quickly because the Russians who got conquered by the USA did not support slavery. Also because of Russia already made cities and modernized the west for the USA these newly founded territories from the former California Republic made the Civil war in the USA shorter instead of five it would have been 2 or 3 years long. During WW1 Russia gets involved protecting Serbia from Austria like it did in history. Once it begins Czar Nicholas II of Russia then enacts reforms learning from the past of Russia he see's that if you treat them like shit or tax them to much they will rebel and he couldn't afford a rebellion in Russia during WW1. So he enacted reforms to make the populace happy supplying bread to them and cutting taxes. He could barely do it but he manages to keep the people on his side and when Lenin tries to take power pro Monarch Patriots and the army put him down. They capture Lenin and his accomplices and execute them a week later. Then WW1 ends with Russian gaining land for the Balkan states from the now destroyed Austro-Hungarian empire. Russia then around the same time Britain's colonizes want independence Russia releases Canada and Alaska. They remain separate creating the Republic of Alaska and the Republic of Canada. They ally with Russia and act as Australia and new zealand do like a commonwealth. So Russia remains as a monarch for awhile before they install a sort of parliament wear the Czar can approve of disapprove with decisions the parliament makes. Like how the president of the USA can veto a bill. WW2 doesn't happen because when Hitler rises to power Russia asks the League of Nations if they can invade and prevent Hitler from creating a fascist state. The League of nations agrees and Germany is taken over in a year with Hitler executed at its end. Then when China under goes it's communist revolution Russia invades aiding the nationals and today nationalist China is a place of democracy and has one of the highest living standards in the world., the same with Russia. History continues on with barely any wars in the world and creating a time of peace, In this time line WW1 was the war to end all wars. Russia continues on being friendly to the USA and China they become great allies and trade partners. Europe also looks very different with Germany split apart and new countries like Bohemia and Bavaria forming. But in all the world is a much greater place. I wonder if anyone would read any of this bullshit I wrote, Kind of long as some of it stretches the boundaries a little but I like it myself and I could see it happening. Willing to hear responses positive and negative.

My theory if Beringa (it is just a theory). The Russian were late to sea fare in the medieval but could still walk to America. That meant America would all be Russian or Russian speaking. Also there would be less technological advance. Because of that in the world wars Germany and Russia won't attack each other then UK would fall as there is no support by US or USSR. So I leave cliff hanger would Germany beat Russia after this or would Russia totally wipe out Germany? you choose

Well considering Mu and Atlantis, colonization would come much much earlier, but on Mu. Colonization of America wouldn't happen or would happen late for about century or two (giving 'Indians' more time to develop, if ever ' ___ ' ), because Europe would be fighting for Mu (considering nobody would be living there already, advanced enough to compare with European powers), nobody would care about looking for new piece of land, because they'd fighting for Mu. That's of course one of scenarios I can think of. I'd have significant influence for the whole world.

if Mu existed in the Pacific, it would cause weather changes to eastern and southeastern Asia, disallowing for typhoons to form as often, or not at all. Another thing to note if Mu existed, is that jet streams would be altered, drastically. Not to mention, Hawaii would no longer be used, at all, save for rich people homes, etc. Mu would also probably be a good place to set up a cheaper way to send space shuttles into space: A curved rail system that would be curved against the same curvature of the Earth. If Mu was a separate continent from pangea, which it probably would be, it would have been connected briefly, or totally, when it slammed against the south and central americas during the meteor strike in the gulf of mexico. This would also mean there would be a gulf north and west of it, making a Gulf of California basically.

Well civilizations would still form in river basins to start with so expect coastal kingdoms. Then it would be a race inwards to grab remaining land. I would imagine though that much of it would be desert so the focus would still be coastal. What would be interesting would be attempting global navigation because they would literally come to the other side of Pangea, if they made it that far.

I know you've done a "If the Nazis Won" but I would like to say my idea. Also sorry for any inconsistencies with dates and stuff and feel free to change things do to inaccuracies. Hitlers invasion of Britain is successful. Churchill successfully flees to America. He stations his V2 rocket program in London and research is phenomenal. Operation Barbarossa is successful. He captures all the major cities faster than expected Within a month of the operation he surrounds Russia's capitol and Russia is fallen.Stalin tries to flee but is captured and tortured and in turn executed. Hitler sends the captured Russian troops to labor camps in North Africa to build factories to aide the African campaign. Rommel successfully conquers North Africa. Hitler is astonished with the Reich's progress. He orders the rest of Africa to be acquired. The V2 rockets reach successful testing and are on standby. Japan conquers China, India, and the middle east. Most of all U.S. Pacific territories are taken by the Axis after the USMC repeatedly suffers devastating losses. Douglass MacArthur is killed.The Pacific fleet is nothing more than scrap. By the middle of 1945 the Nazi war machine is stronger than ever. President FDR dies in office and is succeed by Harry S. Truman. The Manhattan project is set back by at least a year. Unknown to the rest of the world, Germany has successfully discovered the Atomic Bomb and the V2 rockets are armed with nuclear warheads. All of Europe and most of Africa is under Axis control. Hitlers final solution is mostly successful but is angered by rumors of Rommel's plans against the Fuehrer and "niceness" toward Jews and other prisoners. Rommel receives a letter from from Hitler himself and is called up to meet in person. Rommel disregards Hitlers commands. Rommel makes a daring request asking his troops to claim leadership to Rommel not Hitler. Surprisingly 3/4 of the Afrika Corps swears oath to Rommel. The following months, Rommel takes the African territory for himself and sets up his own empire, The Rommel-ian Reich (feel free to come up with a better name). He doesn't hold racist views and sees the natives as an advantage. He trains the natives and equips them with the new Sturmgewehr 44 developed by African factories built by Russian POWs. Rommel frees the prisoners for their service to him. Rommel amasses a giant army in such a fast time, around 1.8 million troops including a sizable amount of vehicles and one V2 rocket armed with a nuclear warhead. Rommel now controls from Egypt down to South Africa. At the same time South America is being invaded by Hitlers forces by late 1946. Hitlers forces easily take South America. Hitler ignores Rommel's "empire". Rommel's empire declares war on Japan and Nazi Germany. The U.S. and Rommel establish contact. They sign a treaty with one things in mind, defeating Japan and Germany. By the middle of 1947 Germany controls all of Europe and South America, Japan controls all of Asia, Rommel's Reich controls Africa and The U.S is united with Canada and Mexico, giving all of North America to the U.S. Hitler launches three V2 rockets at America. Two successfully hit. New York and Boston. Most of the North East's economy is destroyed. The third crash lands in a Quebec tundra. He launches two more set for L.A. and San Francisco. The one for San Francisco hits. The U.S surrenders. But the second missile's course was altered by a Romel-ian Rebel and hits the heart of Japan. Tojo and major military leaders are killed and the Japanese Empire collapses. Hitler now takes Japan's land. Hitlers controls the whole world except Africa. Neither side use their missiles in full force because of fear of what might happen. By 1950 what remains of the war are small skirmishes among the African border. All Jews are believed to be eradicated. Rommel's empire becomes the new America with countless people from the U.S. immigrate to Africa, his army grows larger and is allied with resistance forces in America aiding them quietly. Germany's and Rommel's technology are at a fairly same level and are a farther than us in our timeline. Rommel launches all his missiles and strategic sites in the German Empire. Hitler receives news of this and launches his missiles at Africa. The world is mostly and destroyed. Hoping to give the world a fresh start, Rommel launches vital data and technology along with close to a million people into mars and the moon to colonize it. The survivors of the Nuclear Winter restart life on the waste land. ALTERNATE ENDING BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rommel never launches the missiles. Rommel and Hitler die later on and new leaders take over. They restart the full scale war. The Rommel-ian Reich vs Nazi Germany. Feel Free to incorporate new technologies like laser guns etc. :P

1. Atlantis, if it did exist but not populated with technologically advance people, would have been the battle zone for England, Spain, Portugal, France, and the Dutch. The Portuguese,possibly, arriving first then followed by the rest. Having control over the island continent would mean having control of pretty much all of the Atlantic ocean and would be an important trading/ naval base. Also the (re?)discovery of the Americas would happen later. 2. Sunda and Sahul, I don't know that much about this area's history. 3. Lemuria, again not I don't know enough about this area. 4. Doggerland, The "Wooden Wall" would be pointless and Napoleon and Hitler would burn London to the ground. 5. Mu, another Atlantis scenario. would be the center of the Pacific theater during WWII 6. Beringia, Native Americans would/could have immunity to the diseases that the Europeans brought with them. More Russian colonization of North America and possibly China getting a part of the pie? Would be another hot spot of the Cold War.

The Dogger Plains never sinking would have the most profound effect that I can think of. They would mean that Great Britain's ultimate weapon, its unchallenged navy, would be relatively useless if the Dutch, French, Danes, or some other local tribe decided to turn up. Assuming the Brits, then, aren't completely wiped out and replaced with one outside culture (albeit likely more Germanic than today), they would still have gone without investing heavily in the navy, preferring to stick to a good balance of naval and infantry power. This would make Britain's gigantic 'gunboat Empire' impossible, and would mean that India, Australia, Africa, and the Americas would likely never see much of the Brits- maybe a small overseas empire like the Belgians had, but nothing more. Most notably, this would lead to English (however different it would be in this timeline) being far from the world's most spoken language, having a similar place to Swedish instead. It would also mean that the United States of America as we know it today would be impossible- not only would the founding fathers likely never be born, but the old English colonies would instead be divided up among the Swedes, Dutch, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. These cultural divides would make the union of the nation impossible, and now nations would exist instead, likely divided still by geographical features such as the Hudson river. Now, with no USA, it's going to be much harder to win World War Two, however this assumes that World War Two would even happen in this timeline. It's possible that, due to increased Germanisation of Great Britain, that either Great Britain would become part of the Second Reich or would at least remain friendly to it. This would make the invasion of France much, much easier for the Central Powers in World War One, and would allow them to march east to deal with the Russians and the Serbs and have the war over and done with in no more than two years. Britain, Germany, Austro-Hungary, and Turkey would likely then gain territories from their now-defeated belligerents: Austria would likely divide the Balkans up with the newly-instated Ottomans, and take vast tracks of former Russian land as well; the Germans would also expand east and north, and would likely take some of France; Great Britain would probably also get part of France. As to colonies, Britain may well be granted some of France's African and New World colonies, however these would be much more difficult to control as ethnically French and local people (cough Quebec cough) don't tend to like being ruled from English soil. Great Britain's empire would be feeble and likely have collapsed by now: however, other empires would still be standing in 2015, and much social progress made possible in the 20th century would be unable to happen.

Because Europe was barely in contact with China, I think that if Russia and Alaska were connected only chinese explorers would try it. Kamchatka would be chinese in this scenario and a Chinese- Native american war would be likely after the discovery of our Canada. Eventually, Rome would collapse anyway and the Medivial age will begin. However, the Knowledge of navy would come to Asia and then america, and Civilisations from the great lakes would move to our Maine, New York and Eastern Canada. They would hit a Muslim Iberia in about 900, and an Arab crusade would occur to take it back. They would retreat to Portugal because of Arab cavalry. Afterwards, they would have better technology than the rest of America and outshine the Aztecs in several wars, and controlling the atlantic. They would have Religous problems with the European and Arab Civilizations so Iberia would be fought for by all three sides during the late Medivial age. Now, let's talk about Vikings. Erik the Red wouldn't come to a land claimed by raiders, he would come to a land boredering an Empire. He would be able to set a colony, a much beter colony than what he had achieved in this history, but Vinland (let's assume he would've called it Vinland) would suffer from tensions in Europe, although he had a Religion quite close to the American one (The great lake countries never had Sacrifice part of their Religion; It was an Aztec thing).

If Lemuria existed it would have been a major stop for ships crossing the Indian Ocean if the ruling nation/nations weren't insular. I could see China,African Kingdoms,Arab Kingdoms, and India being colonial powers with later European involvement...or not, it may the Eastern world's well kept secret...

America would be in conflict between the French, British, Spanish (Mexican) and Eussian colonists? Or maybe Russians would be a kind of native colonists?

lol Just think about how the Pacific theater of WW2 would be different if Mu existed! Would the Japanese have declared war on the US if there were ample resources there? Would Mu have been the Manifest Destiny goal of the US after Annexing Hawaii? Could the US have won it in the Spanish American War? Spain did after all have colonies in the Pacific like the Philippines. It's so amazing to think about.

What if Communism never existed? What if the Great Depression never happened? What if modern day Israel was never created? Also, you proposed doing a video in which you would explore what would happen if the Ethiopian Empire continued to exist. Will you still be doing that video?

Speaking of fictional continents, what about Hyperboria and Zothique from Clark Ashton Smith’s stories?

If the Bering Straight was Land, A: Canada, Alaska would've most Likely been Colonized by Russia first because of Catherine and other Russian Leaders.

If Beringia still existed, I assume the Asian tribes and nations would've been the first to discover it, instead of Europe. This could include Mongolia, China, or other tribes who would most likely set up colonies. This would completely change what the Americas look like today, being heavily Asian instead of European

Sunda, Sahul, Beringia, and Doggerland. Actuality. Lemuria, Mu someone else's reality. although, if you look at the current world maps there isn't a whole lot of water covering a lot of land, just another big build up of ice on the poles and mountains would bring them all back maybe even shift the Medd back into the Sahara where it came from .......
