Awesome videos as always!! I own 3-5 of said .45cp guns you reviewed.. What's your thought on a 40s&w review sometime soon?.. maybe just splitting hairs 8888, ..but I'm also a 10mm gun nerd as well.. Can't help it :) I hand load 40 s&w +P with cut down modified 10mm cases (load specs from Hornady) Shiz!! Maybe we are never done :)
Good comments. I was issued a 1911 in my career. I was permitted to carry a Glock 21. After my retirement I was required to carry a M&P. The 1911 is capable of the best trigger jobs. All 3 firearms, mentioned above are very reliable. But my heart goes to the 1911!👍🇺🇸😊
Was expecting to see a USP45. One of the most legendary and reliable .45s ever made. If you do some research on the testing it was involved in it would make a glock look unreliable.
Dude you are absolutely right! I own the USP in 9mm and .45, as well as the 45 C, and the Glock ain’t even in the same league……in my humble opinion! I do own the Glock too, and it’s great, but an Hk it is not!
Same here! Although I only have the USP40 and a PSK2000SK (9mm). H&K and Sig are at the top of my list for manufactures. Of course it may just be I have a thing for the Germans as I also drive a couple of Audi Avants (aka wagon, estate, etc).
😂😂 everyone says it, few ACTUALLY understand the struggle. I’ll never trust a RU-vid reviewer with “big hands” because I’ll grip the gun they said was “nice and big” for their “big” hands, and the damn thing feels like a .380.
I realize they can be a little scarce but the 45 everyone should own is a SigP220. I have one from the early 2000s before the 320 got Sigs absolute attention. By far the most accurate 45 out of the box ever. A true piece of machinery.
I agree regarding the accuracy, not only from comparison articles I read from magazines in the 90s, but my best friend had one. It was an absolute beast to shoot with the 230gr fmj we had. The Hogue grips he bought later helped a little, but I was done after half a box. I was around 190lbs back then. I later shot both a Bersa metal frame .45 & a Glock 21, both had much less recoil than the P220. The Rangemaster at the time asked for 5 rounds & showed us what that P220 could do. This was when .40s first came out & he shot tight groups with my shiny new Taurus PT100 too.
I am a 25 year Army vet, I have carried them in combat and have privately owned M1911s. Please stay to the Military standard. Why?, they takedown and clean like a soldier needs; simply, no problems. Some find the .45 Mil Std as hard to assemble or disassemble, just be aware it takes a few times to be proficient. It is easy to use, has a look that means business (deterrent factor), most battles in a home happen 15 feet or less, so you just point and pull. If you miss, fire again, fire again, fire again, the felon left two shots ago. Even if you don't hit the target the thug will not be back. If you hit the person, in the ear or pinky they will go down. They are designed by the US Army with a "knockdown" effect to fell drugged up Morowai Tribesman on the island of Mindanao over a hundred years ago. My wife speaks the Morowai dialect, she is a Filipina. Funny never realized i would marry the family of the tribe which caused the US Army so much trouble post 1898. The .45 acp mil std is a winner all the way around. Peace, hope you don't have to pull in self defense... if you do, it will serve you well. Why the US Army had this in inventory from 1917 til now.
street75 lafayettestreetcars Is talking to the mirror. Total projection. He sees his own failings everywhere he looks. Of course, he never thinks he is talking about himself, but he is. I'd put money down that everything is someone else's fault and none of it his. Probably lies all day long and blames everybody around him when his lies go south. I have a daughter just like that so I know the type too. The other two turned out pretty well. It's a crap shoot so I guess two out of three is a decent average... The only good thing about my oldest daughter is that she drove the whole family together in order to defend ourselves against her when we could have all just slowly drifted apart. Now we're all tighter than ever and she's standing outside looking in. Screwed herself again. It's genetic though and written in stone. There ain't no cure except for God himself. I'm not holding my breath.
I've seen a M1911 before, Its really lightweight for a handgun and can be concealed easily if you're meeting in a dangerous place with a shady contact. Street75lafayettestreet cars needs to calm down. If he gets mad easily then he is not fit to handle a gun.
street75 lafayettestreetcars You're a disturbed piece of shit. No-one is going to bother reading your bullshit rant. You don't deserve the freedom that soldiers fight to give you. I feel sorry for your stupid, lonely, loser ass. Get some help. You're blocked and reported.
@@Curveball I have to agree, although I do not own the tactical model. I clicked on this video and was actually shocked that the H&K USP 45 was not on this list, and even more shocked that it's little sister the H&K 45 was also void from the list.
@@adamchewy2284 Yeah, some people dislike HK because they say it's a 'snob brand' so they ignore it out of spite. I'm not a snob. I like a lot of Manufacturers. But the USP Tactical was the best so far. I've owned a Glock 23, M&P Spec-Ops, Beretta 92SF Stainless, and a standard USP that I sold to my brother so I could get the USP Tactical. A military friend talked me into it.
Can't beat HK USP 45's. 1 full size black slide and the same with stainless. Same deal with the compact variant. Now foe the topper.....HK USP Elite, no shiny match for that one. Sig 1911...5 in 45acp and a 10 mm Tacops. Throw in an FN FNX Tac and a Big Rock in 10mm and I got rhe 45's covered. Love them 45's!!
M&P's and Shields are amazing handguns. Just a tip, if you plan on ever upgrading it just buy the performance center model from the beginning. Night and Day difference in triggers, great sites, with less recoil from factory.
I really like my Springfield XD45 Tactical, it's an accurate striker fire, and holds 13 + 1. Have no problem drilling consistent head shots at 50yrds. Never had a failure after 2000k rounds.
Joe Gillilan No he don't, and neither do you! Bet neither of you have ever competed in ANY kind of combat pistol matches. Probably no experience in ANY type of pistol competition! I have around 40 years experience in ALL types of pistol competition, using both revolvers and semi-autos! In fact doubt either of you even belong to a gun club!
+Dennis Rogers - Actually the price of Brand new Colt 1911 pistols can be purchased for less than people are selling used Colt 1911 pistols for. Prices have come down on Colts.
i figure it's mostly about the type of guns that shoot .45. besides, only about a dozen dudes that watch this channel own usp .45s, and why would anyone want a pistol that goes off whenever?
willie don't care It only goes off "whenever " by people carrying it who don't know what the hell their doing, and shouldn't be handling it in the first place!!!
I think in general the .45 is an excellent full size duty round. The 9mm is great for the civilian concealed market, using a 3 inch barrel (Taurus G2c) for example. Every caliber has its place I believe.
+AkTejas _ If you are a yuppie or CIA operative, by all means, USP45 is indefensible. Otherwise, >$1K gun with $60+ per mag... no thank you. What does it do that my Glock 21 doesn't?
have better quality materials? The metal and finish used on the barrel is of greater quality. Both are good, one's a bimmer, the other a civic. Both are fantastic, yet I'd sooner have the BMW.
Just got a .45 Ruger American model and I'm really digging it. Small, rugged, easy to take down and clean, affordable and sweet shooter. Definitely recommended.
I'm surprised no mention of the Walther PPQ. One of my favorite 45's. What a trigger. They're only slightly more expensive than glocks, so the with the consideration of the fine trigger, I'd say it's about the same price.
Love the .45 revolver. I own a S&W .45 Model 1917 revolver. It was my Grandfather's service revolver when he was in the Army back in the early 1900's. It still shoots like a charm and I would never part with it.
Usually I tend to be skeptical about people who say they know alot about guns, bc so many people don't. But I like this guy, seen a few of his videos already and he's actually very knowledgeable. Keep it up!
The 1911 is always on top of the list. Every other gun is a son, step son or grandson of the 1911. The most idea would be a custom made 2011. Its on a 1911 platform, .45 acp, with 14 rounds. Other than that, I think the FN is next up.
While I see your point, I would say that the Glock is more like a distant cousin as it is striker fired. And not a cousin I would care to know ;) Also I would say the Colt Double Eagle is more like a "brother" to the Colt 1911, with a few subtle (or not so subtle) differences that make it a better gun than the 1911 (at least IMO).
Springfield Armory Loaded Micro Compact .45ACP (1911 A1) my favorite hands down (no longer made...replaced by EMP but in .40 and 9mm only)...for full sized FNP-45 is mighty fine, especially with its tactical suppressor option!
Always enjoy your videos. I have several .45 acp. My go to would be my H&K USP Expert. A full sized duty gun. Best shooting. Most controllable .45 I have shot. I see where H&K is selling 20 round mags for these now.
You gotta love a guy who says, "if I could only own 5 .45acp's..." Not sure how the HK45 Tactical in FDE didn't make this list, though. I think any "collector" would be sorry to not own it, an HK Mk23 with KAC and LAM, FNP Tactical .45 in FDE with Docter, and the Sig 1911 Carry Scorpion in addition to your standard 1911's...
Photo314159 Seriously sexy. What would you think about the HK45CT in FDE? About 8 years ago there was a picture of both the full-size and compact on the cover of Gun List or Shotgun News- I can't remember which, and the compact in FDE has never been made available to my knowledge. I think I got a line on one now, and I'm pretty excited. I'd have never imagined 10 or 15 years ago that a damn color would be selling me on so many new handguns... :)
+Dalton Duckett What if I don't want to? This channel has made a video before about guns for the budget-minded, why not incorporate that into every top five video or something? +TheNuketrooper That's a pretty stupid way of thinking. "If you want to know the price of something, you're too poor for it!"
theres nothing more refreshing than a glock fanboy willing to admit he had been wrong about their main rival and can recognize it's merit. im a glock fanboy myself but why limit yourself to one platform there are so many awesome guns out there
I have an odd mindset because I want one lower than can convert to many calibers I want just one lower and swap slides/barrels and bam new gun. minimizes luggage out to the range. unfortunately not many pistols can do this which sucks but best are glock and 1911 one day ill have my cz75 in 45 one day
I have the FN FNX .45, the successor to the FNP. Although I dislike DA/SA, the SA trigger has quite a lot of slop, but the let off is livable. Not even close to my tuned 1911s, but livable. But with the polymer frame and stainless less slide, it is the perfect outdoor pistol for hiking and camping. It is impervious to snow, salt, rain, sweat, and very reliable. I love my 1911 since learning it in army officers training inf in 1980. I've owned some 10 and now still own 5: 2 les baers, 1 Ed Brown SF, 1 Colt, and 1 Springfield Operator.
I also bought one about that same time. Beforehand, I researched current .45s so I knew I was buying a very good gun. That is, until I went shooting with it. Then I realized I bought one of the absolute best.
Way to recommend this video 7 years to the day after it was released RU-vid. I'd put the Springfield XD45 on that list. 13 rds, grip safety, trigger safety, striker-fired, tactile cocking and loaded chamber indicators and an action smooth as butta.
I bought the Glock 21, and found out that it was something that liked to chew up my trigger finger as I fired it in fast fire drills. Just didn't like it. So I then bought a Springfield XDM .45 in the 5.25 version. Wow what a pistol. Seriously accurate! Smooth! No heavy recoil. Action that was as D E stated, "Butta". And a nice trigger. When you can hit a half inch dot on paper and completely center it at 10 yards, and the follow up shot is a quarter inch to the left of that, it makes you stand back and smile a lot. Very pleased with the Springfield XDM .45 ACP. Love the 13 round mag too. That .45 ACP really is a round that puts things down, even in FMJ. Nice round and nice pistol!
Does this list still hold true or have any been knocked off this list and replaced with something better? The CZ 97B is still a favorite of mine I know that much.
Everything on this list is not as good as the HK USP45, I haven't seen the whole video yet, I'm only to the FN, but I'm sure everything on this list is a good choice, 1911 is definitely cool and still relevant but it's outdated, they're heavy, only hold 7+1 or 8+1, and compared to a lot of other pistols they aren't the most reliable (although I've only personally seen a 1911 jam twice and that was with steel case), either way you still can't go wrong with a 1911, they are a proven design.
No H&K USP .45, then it's not a serious list. It's not about price, it's about reliability and shootability. Nothing better than the H&K USP .45, period!!
That's not a good argument when the FN FNX-45 Tactical is on this list. I own a love my H&K USP .45, it definitely deserves a place on the list of greatest 45 pistols.
Charles Dahill Can't agree with you more. If you want a high quality firearm, you're gonna have to pay for it. And you definitely get a high quality firearm when you purchase a HK.
Happy to hear somebody finally say something good about Glocks! I just my new gen 17 & it felt perfect! Lots of control, and feels great in the hand! Also was pretty accurate from 10 feet away for me still learning. Also have a Glock 43, that’s been a pretty fun sub compact. My buddy let me shoot his Walther 45 and now I want a 45🤣
My Sig 220 is my constant companion pants on till pants off. Sometimes I bring the xds 45 along so Mr. Sig don't feel so alone. Thousands of rounds and counting without one failure to fire through the 220. I wouldn't change a thing but in the future I see new bluing and a fresh barrel perhaps. I wouldn't take anything for mine.
***** Agreed! Sigs are great guns and beat glocks all day long. BUT...for a short range combat scenario, a glock is still adequate! I mean, give me a break! At 7', how much accuracy do you need to pump two shots to the heart and two to the head in 4 seconds? Only problem with glocks? Stovepipes! Which could get you killed in a serious exchange of gunfire! Which is why I don't own a glock. Only experienced one stovepipe with a glock in over 1000 rounds, but that is too many!
David Pelton And SERIOUSLY people, I you experience even ONE malfunction, failure to feed, stove pipe, or what ever that renders your gun unable to fire and is NOT related to junk ammo, you need to either get the gun fixed, or junk it!! And I don't care if that is in 1000 or 25000 rounds. If you keep your gun clean, properly lubricated and feed it good ammo, there is NO acceptable reason for it not to function 100%! But some guns are notorious for not being able to do so, such as Kahr!!
+Lee Harvey Oswald Ed Brown pistols are an example of the issue with new 1911 pistols. In order to get a high quality one, you will pay. Ed Brown makes a great 1911.
That Sig 1911 shoots with much less recoil than I would have expected. I assume it's because the gun is heavy and solid. My son got the fastback 1911 w/ rosewood grips. We shot that thing over and over and never got tired of it. Machining is tight and perfect. Tri con night sights are cool too.
I would say the same thing. Yet, I want to keep the value of the gun by not giving it so much wear and tear. So, I'll carry my Rock Island Armory BiTone 1911 45ACP every day. It shoots great and it is very affordable. I put a Recover CC3 Polymer Rail and Grip on it for tactical purposes. Works great and not too bad to look at also.
Just bought a HK45CT with a thread protector, left side decocker only lever, the v3/v4 decocker only detent, light trigger return spring, and return spring tool. I can't wait till it gets delivered to my house on Tuesday. I also put a deposit down on a Beretta M9A3.
I think he should've said USP 45 Full size instead of that CZ. With the HK you get 2 extra rounds. Plus Promag makes a 20 round magazine if you want a nice range toy. And instead of a divot stack 1911 you need a P14.45 Reid the capacity.
You overlooked the H&K USP 45 , fully vetted to be beyond tough , no other 45 was ever tested as hard without failure to fire even shooting plus P Ammo and comes suppressor can ready !
Same, I have the 5" barrel model. I was surprised there was an M&P on this list and not an XD. Mine runs flawlessly and I'd very confidently trust my life to my XD
Glock 30SF and any of the Springfield Armory 1911's like the TRP Operator, TRP Stainless, Marine Corps Operator and of course the FBI Professional. The RIA GI 1911-A1 FS is also a nice, low cost but very functional, reliable and accurate, entry level 1911 in .45 ACP
Hey brother I wish you would have included the prices for those five guns. I enjoy your channel and appreciate you and your knowledge of all types of firearms.
You can very easily look the prices up. There's no point in listing prices when they change. This video is made and 2013 so the prices then wouldn't be applicable now anyways.
I am surprised you didn't include the Springfield XD45 Tactical. I love mine. 1911 grip angle, so my style of point shooting means I can't miss. Super reliable. Inexpensive accessories/parts and Springfield will take care of you. And they are super easy to fully disassemble and work on.
I just purchased a Glock 21 a week ago. I was curious to know if there is something we can do about the mag release being that the gun is kind of bulky. My thumb is unable to make a good purchase on the mag release. are we able to swap that out, just to let you know this is my first Handgun and this is something I was curious to know.
How do ya mean i know they have been nothing but a pain and aggravation to the max when try to buy a f,in gun and good at drawing the process out for hours if you want to stay and put up with the ignorant of the facts type of person that you seem to have won that day.oh and no other day being different.but i would like to know how we could do that.thank ya sir
You got single action and double action backwards. Single action needs the hammer cocked manually Double action cocks the hammer with the pull of the trigger
+Lance Chafin I have a Rock Island Armory 14 Rd double stack and is the same size and weight as most other 1911s. Amazingly, the grip is only like 1/8 inch thicker and factory magazines are under $25. It was my first handgun purchase and I'm thrilled with it!
+Dat1 Guy Actually Para-Ordnance was bought by the company that owns Remington. It remains to be seen what they're going to do with the tech, but right now I think Rock Island and STI are the only companies currently producing double stack 1911s. Although brand new Paras are still available its unknown what will happen with production.
That 220 is solid and after thousands of rounds I can say it is the most reliable weapon I have owned in over half a century. Carry a 220 and stay alive. Not even once have I had a failure to fire with it in my hands. It's the best in my hop.
+Brandon Hudson Everyone who owns one swears by it. I wonder whether it is the emperors new clothes with some folks buying handguns... I posted earlier:On the budget, I got a RIA 1911 tactical, a Magnum Research Baby Eagle, a Sig p250 compact (and got the 40S&W subcompact kit) and a used 4566 rated better than 90% for $200. All for less than the price of a high end 1911. I spent under $1500 for these 45s, with only the 4566 being used.

Indeed. Check out Tanfoglio out of Italy -- also imported by European American Arms as the .45 Witness. Many European MP and civilian police agencies use either the CZ97 or the Tanfoglio. After testing 300 pistols at the range, I settled on the .45 Witness because I find it the most comfortable and accurate for my hands to shoot.
I hate “”must have” videos. Just call it “my top 5” I have a lot of respect for a couple of dudes on RU-vid who really know their stuff. They would probably not have any of his five. No Kimber, no HK. To me it boils down to what you can afford. I’d love to see a video that narrows down top two guns in a particular price range. Not everyone has a Glock budget so recommend best handgun in $100 range. $200 range. $300 range. $400 range etc. Some poor fool make need 5 years to save up for a Sig. recommend something more affordable that is effective to protect his family now. No disrespect just a suggestion. Ferrari taste with Dodge budget
I lost an arm in 1976 in the war in Angola, came to the USA over 30 years ago, I went to the range with a friend that have a Glock 45 acp, I shot few rounds and that gun almost break my wrist. I own a 20 yo Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 ACP, I could shoot one hundred rounds and it feel like a glove in my hand. It is a 7 rounds magazine, 8 with one in the chamber, i bought three Wilson Combat magazines, one is a 7 round and the other two are 8 rounds, i reload my 45 acp and love my Kimber, i heard the new Kimber quality control are not as the old ones, i have only put 1, 200 round through this gun. I love iy.
I own one and its awesome. I have the tactical model with the threaded barrel for a suppressor. I can drive tacks with it. I love it and highly recommend it. it was a bit pricey though
Arcralf I have a Springfield 1911 and an HK45. The HK is bigger, especially up top, but I feel less recoil than the 1911 and is definitely much lighter, even with the extra bullets. Also, I live in Alaska, so shooting with an all steel gun tends to be painful to the hands; another reason why I prefer polymer frames over steel.
My 1942 US “government property” .45ACP 5” 1911 (manufactured by Remington Rand) is the best shooting, most accurate pistol I have ever owned (on par with my West German manufactured Sig P228, but with a much superior trigger and a ballistic punch only requiring one hit to completely incapacitate any adversary under 750 pounds). While I consider my Sig 228 to be the finest compact 9mm ever made, I’ll take the .45 any day over 9mm. I reload, and each gun has several thousand rounds of XTP (.45) and Silvertip (9mm) handloads put through them, and neither pistol has EVER had a single failure to feed, jam, failure to eject, multiple feed jam, or smoke stack jam...ever. Literally not one jam in over 20 years that I’ve owned them (I bought the Sig new, the 1911 is 16 years older than I am). These are strictly defensive pistols. Accuracy is secondary to reliability in a legally defensible gunfight (25 feet or less ). That is why those are the only two “pistols” (semi autos) I carry if I am not carrying my Taurus 85 in .38 spl IWB when temps get over 90 degrees. The Sig is slightly more concealable than the full size 1911, when our hot Florida weather rolls in. But I have a plan. I’m currently trying to find out where Don Johnson bought his sport coats, because sadly not printing with the full frame 1911requires a coat.
greg patrick Agreed! I was always told how well they point and perform so I borrowed one at the local indoor range and shot it. I was amazed from the first few shots how well it pointed and put all the rounds right where I was aiming at! Points amazing! The ergonomics of all the CZ's are just right on! They have this figured out. I even own an old CZ52 model, from when CZ was making pistols for the Military and Police and it's far from being "pretty". The machining looks like somebody did it with a rat tail file at home, all the machining marks are very obvious but the gun just won't stop! On a 52 is super important to put a replacement firing pin in right away because the stock pin that comes with the gun are very brittle and will break pretty easy. I was always told "Don't dry fire that thing!" and I just ignored it because I dry fire ALL my guns without an issue, well the CZ after a few clicks there was something that fell out the barrel and when I picked it up I realized it was the end of the firing pin.... Doh! So I bought a hardened replacement for a few dollars, was very easy to replace and wha la! It's worked like a dream every since. And that little 7.62 x 25 round is such an ass kicker! Talk about penetration! Holy cow what a hot little round. But I digress, yes - CZ rocks and are one heck of an awesome pistol to have. Very well made (CZ is made/owned by Dan Wesson now) points awesome and you will not be disappointed if you get one. Rent one at the local range or borrow one from a buddy and put a few mags through it and you will be more than impressed. I was! You are right on the point Mr. Patrick! :) ~Mike
I owned a Glock 21 and had the 'plus 2' added to the magazine...the only problem that I had was that when the magazine was half empty, the slide became out of control going left as it fired. It needed the counter balance in the frame and the Glock doesn't have it. I sold it. I carried a Sig P226 9mm as a state constable and never had a problem with it from out of the box.
