Been a hardcore metal player for 30 years. Recently started dipping my toes in the traditional/outlaw country/rockabilly world. (Back to my roots). It’s so much more difficult than metal. So I started searching for a channel to help me figure out styles, licks, scales, etc. your channel checked every box. I haven’t found a channel that is even close to as good as yours. Thank you!!!!!

I mean, it depends on what type of country and what type of metal. I would wager the most difficult type of metal is more difficult for most people than the most difficult country. I've played both for over 20 years and rarely does country give me the problem that some metal solos do.

Something else that would probably help you out is bluegrass/flat picking. I love all music, but seeing players (like billy strings) just shredding on acoustic is just mind blowing

You're awesome dude! I love the way you break things down! I've played for 42 years, mainly blues, rock and metal. I've always appreciated country players, because this is some difficult stuff to play. Anyway, I've been stale and not challenging myself for awhile now. I wanted to challenge myself, and make guitar interesting and fun again, do I decided I want to learn some country playing. I came across your channel, and you make it so easy to start out. Took me a while to realize what you were doing at 19:20 but I finally realized it was a version of the first lick. Cool. I'm moving from a lead in a rock band to playing lead in a country band. Just like rock having its OWN lick, these country licks will definitely help me learn the country language. Also gives me an excuse to play my Tele in a band. Thanks,

Phantastic lesson, you are a great teacher, explaining everything very understandable! Just a little tip: For me personnaly, I would help if you would write the cords in the tab above the bars. I know I‘m supposed to be able to hear it by ear, or to just know where we are in the 1-4-5, but still for me it would help to look ahead what cord is coming up next when playing along.

These lessons are great and you're doing a great job with pacing and sprinkling in extra challenges for those coming from other styles. Greatly appreciated! Would be nice to play in the last genre that pays well😂 I especially like you building a solo on the ideas, tabbing it out, and then offering the backing track at the end. Super well thought out. Keep goin! This definitely a market for this on youtube.

I spent so many years learning scales and ware and how to play cords on the neck . Nothing helped me understand how to play lead guitar. All those scales did nothing when it cam to actually understanding how to put it together. This guy is a true legend. I wanted to give up . After watching a few videos i felt like an idiot. People werr overthinking it. Watch these videos im still learning from the first one . Wish i could shake his hand . Im forever greatfull and thankful.

Not a country guy, but this was a good intro. As it turns out I use a lot of those licks already in a rock/blues context, but nice to see them all connected, the concept of following the chord changes, which is different from rock/blues where we tend to stay in the blues or pentatonic of the root for soloing.
@jeffro.
@jeffro. 6 месяцев назад
@timmcdowell: Actually, most pro rock & blues players play over the chord changes. It's possible to simply "play in the key," but it's not as interesting. That's what an uninspired beginner could do, I suppose....

Thanks, good licks! BTW, you COULD call it "hybrid picking," which a lot of rock & Blues players use, it's certainly not unique to country & western. I can hear a lot of rock guitarists that borrow some of these licks, esp the double muted dead notes in the bass string (lick 4 i think). Sounds great!

I just found you! You sound great (what I aspire to be able to do) and you teach very well. I do have a question though. I have a Squier CV 50s. I know it’s a personal choice but what strings should I start with?
@stevetharms
@stevetharms 6 месяцев назад
I would start with 9.5's good mix of strings that are easy to bend but still stiff enough to give a little resistance! You could also try 10's or 9's, I wouldn't try going heavier than that though otherwise the bends can get a little difficult. Happy Picking!
