The expression “wrist first “ was the best explanation that I have heard on how to keep dinks low! Thanks for the tips

Nice info. I like to add a couple of things if it's ok. When I instruct I tell them to take a step, quick step into the kitchen and develop that in/out Q'step pattern. It's one that throws the opponent off, catches them by surprise and voila you're in control for the set up and attack. The other is to use the knees to get under that ball while dinking. Get the body involved and become mobile, not frozen when dinking, as so many are apt to do. As one as the Ball dwells on your paddle you can step in but get out quick and do this in several repetitions in practice/drilling the best dinking approaches and techniques. Thanks again! Catching drills w/o paddles is a great way to warm up before dinking. Cheers!

Thanks Barrett. I learned so much in this video. I especially like the explanation about coming from tennis about getting low and the angle of the racket. That is my problem as I began to play just six weeks ago. I will try to incorporate these tips to develop my game. Thank you for making the videos on pickle ball. All are easy and helpful to see and understand. Excellent!

Aloha PK! In Hawaii, we would say "Dinking with a Porpoise!" LOL Thanks for the great tips. Can't get enough of them. I've been attending a 3 day a week dinking skills group. It has helped immensely even though I thought I already had a decent dinking game. I'm finding that I don't. Much to learn. :)

@@PickleballKitchen My post was misleading. I lived in Hawaii for 16 years and fortunately, the Aloha Spirit still lives within. There's a saying over there, "Haole on the outside, Hawaiian on the inside." That's me. Love the culture. Will be going back again and again for my rejuicing of the spirit and to detox from the mainland. LOL BTW pickleball in Hawaii is great. Attended this year's first Hawaii Open back in January with a 3-day Boost Camp hosted by 9 pros. What an awesome experience!!! :)

Can you discuss sometime tips for left handed players. Especially for the left hander when in the position where it’s both our backhands. I play recreational and a variety of people and not everyone understands stacking or how to do it. Can’t explain or use it every time. Thanks!
@SDPBALLCOACH
@SDPBALLCOACH 2 года назад
Joan, I'm a lefty as well. My backhand is better than my Forehand. That said I think stacking is overrated for most players, it can be distracting and I don't always Want my Forehand in the middle.. As far as backhand confusion, you need to talk with your partner(s) and decide who takes middle backhand. It mostly comes down to communicating....

You mention achy knees. Is there a way to protect them? Anyone? Squatting low and lunges--the good dinking form shown here--aggravate my knees.

What camera do you use and lens?? We are looking for one that we can video ourselves..Someome said 24 or 60 or 120 frames.. per second We want to slow down to see our mistakes,, Thank You Drew
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 4 года назад
I use a Canon Rebel SL2. I just use the stock lens that comes with it. If you want to slow it down using a video editor then getting something with 60fps is definitely useful. I think the new iPhone can do that.

I have a question. Does it matter which hand u play with?
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 5 лет назад
I’m assuming you’re ambidextrous. That’s really cool! You should use whatever hand that will cover the middle and you should only use one hand per game. That sounds hilarious, but you want it to be consistent.
@vikray5980
@vikray5980 4 года назад
It is critically important that you use your own hand 😉

I'm curious. It would seem that a ball coming toward you would have an element of top spin. By hitting under the ball, wouldn't it tend to go too high over the net and allow your opponent to attack? Could hitting the ball at the "equator" or on top of your return allow you to return closer to the top of the net? ( BTW; I like the suggestion of pushing your wrist forward. I have been using a straight forearm technique but I think pushing the wrist is easier to conceive and perform.)

What? You’re saying topspin is really hard. I disagree. Maybe because I know tennis. Low to high brushing the ball is the answer.
@PickleballKitchen

Yeah that's definitely your tennis experience. This video is for beginner pickleball players so brushing up against the ball is very difficult to do. Thanks for stopping by!

You can be in the kitchen all you want as long as you hit the ball after it bounces.
