When I lived in Paris, I typically went to Marche Popincourt (metro Oberkampf) open Tuesday & Friday. It was about the same distance for me to go to Bastille, but I just preferred this one. Plus, it's also a short walk from Canal St Martin, a great place to picnic.
I’m in such aww of the manner in which the French display food. It’s like art! One can’t help but to want to eat good natural food. The opposite of the US’s view of food. I wish that the US could view food in such a way. Thank you for the video, it’s like I’m shopping with you until I get back to Paris! 🥰 💃🏽
I’m glad Bastille Market is in #1!! I came across it in 2018 (while celebrating my 60th). We had fresh oysters and sparkling wine for brunch! Heaven! Paella looked pretty good too! Produce is top class!
As someone who shares his life between Paris and the US I think your videos are spot on. Insightful, pleasant to watch , honest. PS: @Antoine the spice that you got on your Pita snack at Monge market is called SUMAC, and yes it tastes like a lemony thyme thingy😉
The marche at Versailles is also a beautiful one to visit when you are there. You can pick up some wonderful things to have a picnic in the gardens or along the grand canal. Highly recommended.
You two made navigating Paris truly amazing! There were times where I pulled off the side of the road and watched your videos, to help me navigate. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can't wait to go back. Rue Mouffetard was my favorite little area. What transformation that area goes through from morning to night.
Grenelle is local for me and my fave. When I take visiting tourists they find it hilarious that there are bras next to fish :) I have built a huge costume jewellery and scarf collection from there, and I like that being under the metro, you're covered in case it rains!
Thanks for this! Markets are a good idea that I did not go to in the few times I've been to Paris - always rushing around. If I get back to Paris again, I will take time to enjoy places like the markets. That looks to be more fun than trying to squeeze in of so much "sightseeing" of landmarks.
Yea I totally agree..I was in Paris back in May for the first time and totally get you. It was rush rush getting everywhere. Definitely gotta check out these markets.
YES! I’ve been to Paris a few times but the best time was 3 weeks in 2018 to celebrate a significant birthday. A dream stay. Markets, just living there. Save some money by self-catering. Live like the parisiennes!
Omg i miss french markets and cuisine so much! I used to love walking around in the different areas of Paris and picking up some food on the spot at a random market. The cheeses, charcuteries and breads are of the highest quality!
Great video, but easy with the cheese in America hate, lol. The Midwest is FILLED with some of the best cheese makers in the world. Heck, I have one 30 minutes from me that ages their cheese in a cave. You need to come to the Midwest if you want good cheese.
Hello, we love your videos. Thank you! We are going to spend New Year’s Eve in Paris. Are these marches open year around? Will we be able to find some open during the Xmas and NYs season?
We love your videos! We come to Paris 2-3 times per year and always stay in the 7th but explore all over. We’re always seeing familiar places and it makes us happy!
I really enjoyed this video! The take away foods looked great. Especially the escargot with the chill pats of garlic, parsley herb butter ready to prepare at home.
Having viewed your many informative videos on Paris I feel confident that my visit will yeild what I have planned for myself. Your enjoyment of that city is quite infectious, thus, I'm counting down the days to my departure with great enthusiasim.
Love your video’s, very informative for us tourist, wanting to visit Paris. And I don’t think it matters if Colleen is pronunciation is like a true French or not, if this video are for tourist.
Thank you very much for your wonderful videos! They really helped us make our gastronomical list for our Paris trip. It's very unfortunate that this video about markets came out too late, so that we couldn't use it in our trip... We greatly appreciate all of your work!
Your videos helped us so much in our trip to Paris in June! Now I want to go again to experience the markets :). Keep posting - it's wonderful seeing Paris through your eyes!
We are coming from Australia in one weeks time and it will be our third trip! Looking forward to visiting a Marche so this was terrific, thank you. You should consider hosting small group tours ❤
Greetings Frenchies, I’m enjoying all your videos… My friend and I will be in Paris in Oct., and will be using your guide… Do you know if vendors at the marche carry organic/biologique produce? Thank you and be well!
Just returned from 8 days in Paris. Used the Metro all 8 0:00 days, shopped in a marche every day in the 15th arrondissement. Ate at a brasserie call Suffrens on Rue de Suffren 3 or 4 nites, Picolettos etc. Thanx for all your videos. The food and wine tasting in Las Mara is and Montemarte(sp?)
These markets make you wonder about the infrastructure of French food: The farmers, the artisans, the cottage industries, and the hard-working vendors themselves. It's not just the market but a lot of unseen economics leading up to this consumer experience. No wonder the little corner grocery stores were so tiny! People come to the markets for good fresh food and it's so available that they can buy it several times a week. . . . but I'm not sure if you could take that cheese back with you to the states on a plane. When I flew back, they had pretty strict requirements around food. Not sure but it's possible the bacteria in the cheese could contaminate American cheeses or bacteria somehow. Maybe it's largely political, but they were very strict.
Nothing can make American cheeses, bacon, chocolate, pretty much ALL "STUFF" passed under the guise of food , any worse in my experiences of it! It's Over-Processed, Synthetic , disgusting slops in general. I feel for any parent trying to raise Children on that repugnant dross, worse, in HUGE PORTIONS . Shameful in such a rich Country, but its certainly not known for good food
I want to know more about the cheese sous vid. I live in California and going to Paris in July. How do I transport cheese back to the USA? In my carry on or do I pack it? I understand it is air packed, but I just need to know where do I put it and how long will it keep in the sous vid bag? Thank you
Hi! I'm a mexican student starting his master in public health in Paris in August. I'm currently looking for an apartment and how to make a bank account, basically the arrengments to live there for 2 years. I'd love to see a video about housing and pricing in Paris or around it. I just discovered your channel and I love it. Hope you make more videos!
This video is wonderful. I am trying to think of something like it in the states. Maybe Pike Street Market in Seattle with a farmers market and a flea market combined but with more stuff. The foods look wonderful.
I was just wondering if you know what seasonings they put on the rotisserie chicken in the French Parisian market place? Or do they sell a brand of seasonings to put on rotisserie chicken before they put it on the spit, like they make in the marketplace? If yes, can you please tell me the name of it so that I might be able to buy it thank you. Furthermore, we really enjoy your videos. You have hearts of a teacher, and we feel like we are there with you!
Yummy !! At Marché Grenelle prepared food looks soooo good and like homemade food "fait avec amour" !! I visited the market of Place Monge a long time ago, it looks like it developed a lot, which is good !!
I noticed at the marche at the Bastille you paid cash. Do they take card payment too? I’m interested in deciding how much cash to bring with me. Cheers from 🇦🇺
We were recently in Paris for a month and our fav markets were Marche d’Aligre and Marche Notre Dame Versailles. Didn’t make it Marche Grenelle but with try it next trip. Cheers!
Heading to Paris for the first time to celebrate our 30th and our son's first anniversaries in May. Your videos have been so helpful in planning, so thank you! Just curious, are the marchés about the same prices as the stores? (Here in the U.S., items at farmers markets tend to be quite a bit more than at the stores.)
The guy at 3:05 is making manakeesh which is a common breakfast food in the Arab world. It is a flatbread topped with lots of things. Ground and spiced meat is very common. The topping he adds looks like zaatar which is a mix of dried herbs and olive oil.
How is the pricing at the markets in Paris? Will you pay quite a bit more for the bread, the ready made food or the scarves? I heard you say that it was great for someone who wanted the experience but will you pay more for the experience?
I love these markets, but usually Sarah has to drag me away or I'd visit one all day every day. I long for these in my hone town but sadly supermarkets would destroy them. Great video, thank you. 👍
I will be in Paris in May 2023. Are some of these markets open then? Not many fresh fruits and vegetabl're ready for market in the spring. Asparagus and strawberries, maybe??
@@LesFrenchiesTravel wow! Thanks for the quick response. I am thoroughly enjoying all your videos. Salivating just thinking about the food I'll be tasting in May. ...the cheeses, desserts, charcuterie YUM
Hi Frenchies, thank you so much with all your comments, I"m following almost every video you show. My question is... is it possible to pay in us dollars? say supermarkets, coffee shops, souvenirs?? Thanks a lot!!!
