1. Sweeney Todd 2. Jesus Christ Superstar 3. The Producers 4. Pippin 5. Ragtime Honourable mentions: Little Shop of Horrors, Sunset Boulevard, The Scarlet Pimpernel and A Little Night Music.
One musical that I have been in that I don't think people know about is Back to the 80s. It's set in the 80s and goes through the main characters senior year and all that comes with it. It's great if you really like 80s music because it has all hit 80s songs.
My top 5 favourite musicals -the rocky horror show -heathers -repo! The genetic opera (it never made it to my country so i consider it underrated but i don't know about the rest of the world) -jesus christ superstar -phantom of the opera
1. The 2.Great 3.Comet 4.Of 5.1812 Jk, i love most all musicals, but im kinda basic so i dont have any unkowns Edit: wow, call me hamilton because i am dead at the amount of likes
Katherine Steele first of all omg i love your chanel so much and you replied ahshshsnajsb and secondly screaming as much as marya during in my house? Or as much as i did when it closed....... :c
+Katherine Steele mkay so I'm auditioning for the role of rafiki in the lion king (it's a school production) and I was talking with a few of my freinds and people I know. and we were sharing what role we were auditioning for. and I said rafiki (obviously ) and they seriously said. oh. you won't get it. now this is coming directly frk. me supporting them on the roles that they wanted. saying that they are really talented and will get the part for sure. and they told me about this girl aleda..... she had been bragging and saying that she would get the role because she was a close family friend to our music teacher (and play directors) "favorite" I really would like for you to make a video about auditioning with people telling you you won't get it or casting by favorite or preferences. also I love your channel and your content and my top five musicals would have to be (this is extremely general as its hard to pick) - falsettos / in trousers - my fair lady - Sweeny todd - legally blonde - the book of mormon
1. The guy who didn’t like musicals 2. The guy who didn’t like musicals 3. The guy who didn’t like musicals 4. The guy who didn’t like musicals 5. The guy who didn’t like musicals Done
My favorite currently 1) Falsettos (2016) 2) Waitress 3) The Book of Mormon 4) Legally Blonde 5) Dear Evan Hansen I just realized that these are all newer contemporary musicals oops
Hey Katherine! (and fellow Theatre Thursday Fam members.) Something *crazy* happened to me the other day and I thought I would share it with you guys. I recently went to see the UK tour of Legally Blonde with my friends (who are also in theatre.) We took our seats and there were 2 young men sitting behind us, but we didn't pay much attention to them. We love Legally Blonde the musical, so of course we were applauding after every number, talking about how good the cast were during the interval, and we even gave them a standing ovation at the end, as did many other people. After the curtains closed and we were gathering our stuff to leave, one of the guys behind us tapped me on the shoulder. He said he was actually the Director of the show, and he was impressed by our enthusiasm and love for the show and he wanted to INTRODUCE US TO THE CAST? What? How? Long story short, me and my friends fan girling ended up allowing us to meet everyone and get a picture with them. They were all so sweet too. I still can't believe that happened, it's like it's all a crazy dream. Anyway, story over, I just thought that would be a fun theatre story to tell. :)
This is amazing I love this! One time I was at a chorus line when they revived it probably 2006-2007 and Sara Jessica Parker/ Mathew Broderick were sitting like two rows up from me. I almost died. Being a fashion major I’ve always idolized her. Funny tho you’d think Matthew would have been the one recognized in a theater but it was definitely SJP everyone recoginzed. Matthew Broderick was so cute protecting her tho. Not as cool as your moment but still cool
I'm a bit basic but I do have a little gem that NO ONE seems to talk about: Tick, Tick, Boom! Come on, y'all. Jonathan Larson composed it, Raúl Esparza starred in it (Where the Law & Order fans at); Lin, Karen Olivo, and Leslie Odom Jr. came together to do a revival for it! You should be all over this thing!!!
My 5 favorite underrated shows: 1. BONNIE AND FRIKKIN CLYDE (not the actual title, just remove the frikkin part but omg I love this show) 2. Bright Star 3. Tuck Everlasting 4. Dogfight 5. Catch Me If You Can Honorable mentions to: Big Fish, Doctor Zhivago, 13, Daddy Long Legs, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Wonderland, and literally every show that closed prematurely this past season
Hannah Czaplicki it's nice to see a list without DEH, Hamilton or Heathers to be honest! Don't get me wrong I love those shows it just get a boring seeing the same names over and over!
( in no order) 1. great comet 2. anastasia 3. bonnie and clyde 4. a gentlemans guide to love and murder 5. bare i feel like all of these need more appreciation, especially a gentlemans guide
A few of my underrated favourites include: 1. Curtains 2. City of Angels 3. Lucky Stiff 4. Big Fish 5. My Favourite Year Most of them can be found on RU-vid and they're all amazing!
NO PARTICULAR ORDER 1. Spring Awakening 2. In the Heights 3. Newsies 4. Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 5. One musical that’s underrated especially in the US is Billy Elliot. It is very much a British show so that kind of makes sense but it’s SO. GOOD. Music, story, characters, dance, emotion I LOVE
My friend (whos a brit absolutely LOVES that show and has seen it over and over) Since it' was a hit in America and it's Elton it is surprising that it doesn't have the same fondness to Americans. But the brits love that show more than Blood Brothers and they seemed to LOVE Blood Brothers LOL
Jekyll and Hyde! It’s my favourite musical of all time and it’s SO underrated. I was desperately looking for it in the comments but no one is talking about it.
1. Hamilton 2. Sweeney Todd 3. Amelie 4. Legally Blonde 5. Tuck Everlasting Note: I've only seen bootlegs of these (except hamilton and tuck everlasting) and listened to the score and I'm seeing Hamilton on west end in 3 weeks so i'm very excited :)

The new show that I've been telling everyone about: Hadestown! New Orleans jazz + Greek myth of Orpheus & Eurydice = such a fun a beautiful show! Live cast recording on Spotify!
I just saw Spongebob last week and I also really liked it! I was pleasantly surprised. Jai'Len Josey in "Daddy Knows Best" has been stuck in my head all week, her voice is INCREDIBLE
Falsettos, Book of Mormon, Phantom, Anastasia, and Les Miserables in that order!! I love them all so much, it's hard to put them in order, but Falsettos is a standout favorite! It's so good!
Ayy Bee All those musicals, except for the last, are so popular😂. Yes, they aren’t as popular because they’re much older and kind of originated (especially Les Mis and POTO) the hype for Broadway and now there’s so many new musicals but overall, everyone at least knows about them.
One of my favorite lesser know musicals is A New Brain. It’s black humor at its finest by one of my favorite composers William Finn. It also has a great cast including Jonathan Groff and Christian Borle. In the same vein I feel like Falsettos isn’t as talked about as it should be (also composed by William Finn)
5. Hamilton 4. Heather 3. Dear Evan Hansen 2. Phantom Of the Oprah Honourable mentions: Be More Chill. 21 Chump street. Lighting theif 1. The SpongeBob SquarePants musical
I just saw Spongebob last week and I also really liked it! I was pleasantly surprised. Jai'Len Josey in "Daddy Knows Best" has been stuck in my head all week, her voice is INCREDIBLE

My top 5! :D 1. Oliver! 2. Carrie 3. Sweeney Todd 4. Company 5. Falsettos Personally I was a bit meh on Merrily (which is weird because obviously I LOVE Company), but brb adding all the other musicals listed here to my list. I'm such theatre trash I've heard of all of these.
Not in order but these are really underrated 1. Rebecca 2. Evening Primrose 3. Urinetown (it’s not very understated but no one does it. 4. Elizabeth the musical 5. Children of Eden (same as #3)
TY for mentioning urinetown! Our youth theater is doing it this january (i was cast as Mr. Mcqueen in this) and i've never heard it mentioned before. A lot of people just judge by the name and the basic premise of it
Top 5? Geez that's a tough one 5. Funny Girl 4. Hamilton 3. Wicked 2. Bye Bye Birdie 1. A Chorus Line BUT THERE"S SO MANY MORE THAT I NEED TO PUT ON THERE LIKE RENT AND LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL. YOU CAN'T HAVE ME CHOOSE JUST FIVE, KATHERINE!
Hi Katherine! I just found your channel a bit ago and I love theater Thursdays! I'm contemplating trying out for my schools musical, which is Little Shop of Horrors. I really love theater and musicals and such. The thing is I've never acted before; I've only ever sang, and my voice isn't very loud. Should I still try out?
I'd say to give it a shot! Being part of school productions are some of my fondest memories and led to me discovering my huge love of theatre 😊 it's also a great way to meet people who love performing too! Break a leg and enjoy every moment! xxx
Dooo it! It will be fun and I'm sure you'll be awesome. I feel the same as you do and I will be trying out for Mrs Potts in Beauty and the Beast for my spring musical. So go do it, it will be fun and Break a leg!!
