Scotty where I live 4x4s are a practical nessessity and used ones are hard to find. Doesn't matter the brand/model they are exspensive when you do find them. My 03 Dakota 240,000 miles still has a market value here of $4,000 to $5,000. I recently went shopping for a possible replacement $7,000 for an 04 anything I even seen an 09 priced $20,000. I live on dissability I can no longer afford to buy another truck. My old Dakota still runs strong and in good solid mechanical shape. So I guess even at 240,000 and 17 years old it's worth the effort to keep her going.

I had a 1994 Ranger pickup that I bought from my neighbor when it had100,000 miles. I sold it in 2015 when I bought his used F 150. The ranger had a 3.5 litre engine, manual trans with 4 wheel drive. In the 213,000 I had it ( total.of 313,000), I replaced the clutch twice ( teenage boys ), all the u-joints, a starter, alternator, mass airflow sensor, and the water pump the month before I sold it. It didn't use any oil, no rust (did have a little paint pealing), and everything else worked, AND the seats did not have any holes in them! I let it go for $1,200 and the person I sold it to still uses it for a work truck. I can vouch for Ranger pickup trucks!

A good friend of mine is a REAL GM fan. Last year he bought a new Equinox, 4 months later the transmission failed. Because GM had SO MANY OF THEM FAIL there was no transmissions available. Since he had been a good customer for so long, the dealership gave him a loaner to use until they were able to repair his. 7 MONTHS LATER his was repaired. I asked him if the loaner held up, he said that the transmission on it was beginning to fail when he returned it to pick up his.

@@brucejones2354 That doesn't surprise me. The ones we have at my work are already starting to have the transmission slip and clunk at like 30k miles. It sucks because GM used to make decent vehicles, and seeing the quality control keep going down due to greed and cheapness is sad.

I’d recommend Nissan hardbodies. I had 2 93s. Both had over 200k miles. Awesome little trucks. One had 240k miles, drove it for about 3 years. Never burned oil or anything. Only thing I had to change was the belts and a couple light bulbs. Oldest and highest mile truck I ever had, only one that didn’t give me problems. Until a lady rear ended me texting and driving.

Many could have gone even longer if not beaten into the ground without care. Mine is at 423,000 now. Need to rebuild the original front end. Seen these in junkyards with very little wrong with them. Very sad. I would buy them to restore if I had the chance.

I had one of those Mazda B series pick ups it had the four-cylinder engine in it that had been overheated. The oil rings seized to the pistons from heat. I put new rings and rod bearings in it, never touched the main bearings. I used silicone for an oil pan gasket. The valve cover gasket was reused with a very fine layer of silicone as added sealer. I also reused the exhaust manifold gasket as it was a solid piece of metal. The only thing I bought other than the rings and Rod bearings was a head gasket and an intake manifold gasket. I drove that truck trouble free for another seven years before it finally gave up the ghost. Best $400 truck I ever purchased.

Granted I had to fix a bunch of stuff but I’ve been driving it for six years! It now has 220 on it I have about 9000 into it all together but I haven’t put any money into it except for normal maintenance in three years! New frame went under it two years before I bought it and the body only has minor paint bubbling Here and there.

The Chevy S-10 Mid Size is another good one, guys. I have the 2003 S-10 with the 4.3 liter V-6, Extended Cab. I bought it in 2006 with 89K miles already on it. It has 199K miles now, original engine and trans, and neither has been rebuilt, and the AC still blows cold air. I did keep the oil, and trans fluid changed religiously, myself. The only thing i`ve had to do is change the heater core,,,,thats it. I see so many of those still around today, and they`re dependable little trucks. Just something to consider, if you can find one with lower mileage

Got an '89 Ford F150 2wd that I bought for $1,700 Cdn in Aug 2012, had 255,000 km (153,000 miles) 5 ltr (302) 5 speed standard. Got 505,000 km (303,000 miles) on it now. Been my daily driver for over 10 years. I've hauled 17,000 gallons of water with it in 6 years 100 gals at a time, hauled about 500 pallets with it. Hauled wood with it and pretty much you name it. Given countless numbers of people a ride with it. Starts whether 30 below or 90 above. One day in January January 29th, 2019 it was -47C (-53C with the windchill) plugged it in for about an hour that time and turned it over and it started! The only major fix I've had done is pressure plates and release bearing, fixed the ignition switch (twice) and oil pan gasket. Pretty good on gas for a full size pickup (about 20 m/gal hwy). The transmission is finally wearing out and I think the release bearing might be going again. My goal is to get 700,000 km out of it before I retire it and build a ramp for it and display it, even then I may still take it for an occasional drive. The Lord has blessed me with this truck, couldn't live where I live without it. Long time ago I picked a name for that truck and called it "Thunder" because it's quite loud. Would I buy another old Ford again? In a heartbeat!
