Was very disappointed in the "reformulated" Face & Body. I returned it. I agree 100%. These brands should just bring out "new" foundations instead of reformulations. They're never that close to the originals.
I saw this foundation recommended SO many times and was so excited to try. I ordered one and thought to myself, "What is everyone so excited about?!" Then, I found out about the reformulation. Why would you mess with a foundation that everyone really loved?
You are my foundation queen!! Thank you for such thoughtful, thorough reviews of foundation and concealer for women over 40! It’s a different ballgame when you are 40+ and looking for a match. You’re the best, Steph! Also, couldn’t agree more with you about reformulations…who is asking for it?! Ugh! Wish companies would knock it off with that.
First, just want to thank you for doing long term testing, not just first impressions and then providing photos of what things look like throughout the day. Second, I share your frustration with "reformulations." Maybe you've already done this and I've just missed it, but an entire video of reformulation comparisons would be so good! What actually improved and what didn't? Thanks again!
Even if brands are hell bent on calling a product "reformulated" , why don't they let US choose which one WE want. Just by keeping the original product available would be a great help. But no, they remove the original and we are left very disappointed. Love you lots 💗💕💗💕💗
After looking at your blog site, I realized that we are foundation twins! So happy to finally find an influencer who uses the same shades! Could you please review cle de peau and Sisley foundations???
Yay! Roundups are my fav. Thanks for showing application full screen. It's so much easier to see. The guerlain looked so nice on you. I'm so grateful you're here !
I have been waiting for your take on the new Dior foundation, and am so disappointed to hear that it has changed so much. Totally agree with your take on most reformulatIons.
I completely agree about the Lancome reformulation. I have dry skin and have the exact same issues. I’ve worn this foundation for over 10 years, so I’m really sad about it. Thank you for the foundation testing!❤
I lovethe Guerlain foundation sooo much!!! I was sceptical about buying it (I have very oily skin snd I'm 43) but it's wonderful on me. Wore it with the make up for ever smoothing primer and had no oil or shine after 9 hours! It looks great on me!🌸🌸🌸
Such an interesting video Steph, I know what you mean about the ‘reformulation’ products being a completely different product, very annoying! The 2 faced one looks amazing!!
You and Risa are my Go To's for foundation reviews. I've been on the fence about the Guerlain foundation, but after your review I'm ready to purchase now. Thanks!
Thank you very much, Stephanie Marie for your reviews! I absolutely agree with you, that brands tend to mislead consumers selling completely different new products under well-known names. The same happens to perfumes as well, unfortunately. I also agree, that with the new 'clean beauty' trend we get make-up products that are neither make-up, nor skin care...
I've been researching to find a new foundation that plays well with my skin so this video was much needed. Thank you! Also the Guerlain foundation looked custom made for you. It made your skin look lit from within. Absolutely flawless!
I appreciate these reviews so much. I love in Florida which is also so hot and humid so I’m always wary of new foundations that say luminous. Great video.
I love the Too Faced tint/foundation but with a lot of tints, I’m in between two shades. Had to buy 2 different shades to mix to find a better shade match. Also I’m so glad I stocked up on my Dior Face and Body before the reformulation! Louisiana heat likes to melt my foundation off as well and those both work pretty good against that.
I just bought the Colourpop pretty fresh foundation and I love it! I am 49 with mature dry skin! I love it! I like watching you and mainly for foundations to avoid. In my experience anything that says vegan it means it’s formulated with some form of avocado 🥑 or papaya in it and I’m allergic to both! Some IT cosmetics is even out for me! Thanks for your reviews!
Original Dior Backstage was a holy grail for me, too. I have one opened bottle left of the original version, and I've been waiting for your thoughts on this new formulation. You are my go to jumping off point for foundations.
Dior has broken my heart with all the discontinuations & reformulations. They were my holy grail brand for all things complexion & now I’m back at square one. So infuriating that they would take away and/or change iconic products that worked for SO MANY people. Now I’m back to Estée Lauder Double Wear, Make Up For Ever HD Skin & MAC Pro Long Wear. All of which I like but Dior AirFlash & Face & Body gave me the coverage I wanted without feeling too heavy. They even reformulated the Forever Matte & I’m not a huge fan of it now. Don’t even get me started on the reformulation of Forever Skin Correct.😩😭😂 Apparently I needed to rant too lmao! Thank you for these amazing, honest reviews.❤
@@StephanieMarie I was so waiting for your thoughts ont the new Dior FB. I am so disappointed myself. The original was my HG and worked every single time no matter what. It was perfect, so much so that I had backups of it in my two shades. The new one does look beautiful on me but I get so shiny and I can feel it moving around on my t-zone. It's a no go and I live in cold dry climate. I am so sad. I saw it coming though, Dior did ruin a lot of products with their reformulations and you rant was more than justified. I am now back at square one and I don't know what to pick.
Now I am royally pissed off and agree with your rant. I hope Dior and Lancome are listening. Now I will have to search for a new HG foundation and mascara due to formula changes. Thanks so much, I appreciate and trust your reviews.
I realize this is an older video but……..I have a suggestion with the Lancôme tient edole foundation!!!! I love it but find if I mix it with one pump of my NYX Can’t stop won’t stop foundation AND apply it with YOUR , stephaniemarie, double wear technique…. I am much happier with the results. I also do initial application with my fingers and follow with the damp sponge. Beautiful! ❤
Fool that i am i just discovered you in recent months and this series. Wow. BEST SERIES EVER! I have some catching up to do so if already reviewed (no idea how long theyve been out) I apologize; dior forever as well as yves saint laurent all hours foundation. Also, when will you be updating your all time fave foundation list? Looks like it's from 2020 and I'm very intriqued to see if theyve changed. Two of your faves are my faves.
There are extremely strict standards (that have been updated in the last few years) that determine how many ingredients can change in a cosmetic/beauty/hair product before it must be deemed a “new” product versus a reformulation. I work in the beauty industry and it’s not as lenient as you think. It is more common that the manufacturing mechanisms are changed, making the same ingredients interact with each other differently.
Hi Stephanie. I love your foundation reviews because they are so thorough. I totally agree with you when it comes to "reformulated" products. Just tell us you're discontinuing the product and introducing a new one. Do you think the Guerlain foundation would work for dry skin? It looks so good on you.
Hi! I'd grab a sample if you can. I know my friend Michele (Wang) didn't love it on her very dry skin in her uber-dry climate, but it depends on many factors. I've heard of people with dry skin loving it. It's worth a try for sure!
I loved your video..i also agree with you about the reformalation with foundations!! I also like to know your advice on drugstore brand foundation. I like medium to full coverage Do you have any recommendations for me?? I appreciate your help!!! Thank you!!!❤😊
So agree with the reason for your rant....don't do a re-formulation, just call it by a completely different name as it's deceptive advertising. I don't want to waste my time buying and or returning a product that is not what it is described. Thx so much for taking the time to say this!
I’m glad I found this channel. I live in the southern part of Texas and it verbatim what you said about your climate. I also have combo skin. I’m only 36 but I’m going to age so I’m interested in what I should use in the future.
Stephanie, I agree with everything you said. I have tried all of these and am also disappointed. The foundations I used to rely on to keep me matte are no longer. Thanks goodness I bought 5 bottles of the previous Lancôme TI…my fave!!!
Woop Woop!! Love these foundation reviews shade twin! I'm one of the seems like few that loves the new formula Dior Backstage better than the original. I'm a very oily gal in a humid state and it works perfectly for me. The original formula was a bit too dry for me but still beautiful. I LOVED your rant. MIC DROP Steph. Agree with you 100!! Gonna try a couple of these other recommendations!
A rant worth every word! Some people may think their skin has changed so good to see you trying these 're-formulated' products 🙏 Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue old version made my normal skin look like grease, and the new matte version didn't look great so will be giving it a miss. Thank you
I also just want to say as someone new to the series (and currently binging) i appreciate the larger video on the side with your wear photos than the smaller cut outs in the past. Thank you!
I'm behind you on your reformulation rant. I LOVE the original Dior Backstage Face & Body. Guess I won't be buying a new one when my current bottle runs out.
I had the same experience with the Lancôme foundation. I may try the Too Face. It didn’t appeal to me because I thought it would be too shiny. Thank you for the reviews!
"Some kind of magic." Hahahaha! You are too funny! Thanks for all your hard work Stephanie, trying foundations that you don't even like. That's dedication, and it is appreciated. I have a reformulation story for you. Dr. Brandt's Hyaluronic Face Cream has been my only choice for years. It was great at plumping my skin that had changed so much due to menopause. Suddenly my skin was dry, my laugh lines deeper and the good old marionette lines were suddenly more pronounced. This cream plumped up everything so well it was my ride or die face cream. I went to re-order and couldn't find it on the web site this week! I found the 2.0 version and ordered that, and I do not like it. It went from a whipped gel to a thick, dry feeling cream, and it didn't do anything for my skin. I sent an e mail questioning this change and got on the computer, I managed to find the original at Skinessentials and snapped it up. I totally agree with you!
I’m so disappointed with the reviews I’ve seen on the Dior backstage as this was a holy grail foundation for me! I hope they bring back the original formula after seeing so many people disappointed from this change 😩
I’ve been waiting for this video and was soooo glad to see it. I was going to purchase the reformulated Lancome foundation but after seeing your review I’ll give it a miss. My foundation colours are the same as yours and so is my skin type so I usually buy things you recommend. Thank you so much for your fabulous and detailed reviews.
Thanks so much for a great roundup. I’m so disappointed to hear about the new Dior face and body as i absolutely love the original which i bought based on your recommendation. The new one isn’t available here in Australia yet so I i may have to stock up on the original before it gets replaced as i don’t think I’ll enjoy it at all. The two faced one sounds promising though!
I got a sample tube of foundation from a brand called Yensa in an IPSY bag, that I’m loving. It’s called Yensa Super Serum Silk Foundation. The shade light neutral is perfect for me. I think it’s better for dryer skins like mine (and I’m 53). It touts some skincare benefits that I’m not sure that it’s doing, like brightening and firming, and it says it’s full coverage. I like that I get coverage without it feeling or looking heavy. I think I’m gonna buy the full size when I run out of the sample (0.34 oz), but it seems to only be available on QVC.
This is bad news for me. I ordered bareMinerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer with spf 30 and just received it. I'm sort of not enthused about even trying it on. That's the way I usually roll..🙄. Thank you for the video. I am turning 75 in November so my skin is so much fun to work with......🙃
I enjoy your reviews and opinions so much. I also like your application videos. Thank you for your insights about reformulations. I think it was ok with the Dior Forever Skin Glow (I loved both, but preferred the second), but it sounds like the Face & Body is very different. What did you think about the Mac Face and Body as a replacement for the Dior?
You are my go to for foundation recommendations… I’m so disappointed in the Dior backstage review… I was so hoping it would remain the same. That being said I’ve heard good things about ritual de fille three drop weightless serum foundation. Wondering if you would please please check this out and do a review.
How disappointing to hear about the Dior Backstage. I wasn't aware they had reforumlated it. I am down to the bottom of the bottle I currently have and was debating about whether or not I wanted to repurchase because I'm a super oily girl. This makes the decision pretty easy for me.
I probably should’ve waited till you finished it. I thought you were gonna love it, but maybe I’ll just go with my under eye, concealer colour and go for my skin tone concealer it because I find it just looks amazing on the face no foundation needed and it lasts for hours.
Thank you for a great video - definitely want to try the Guerlain one. Would love your thoughts on Rituel de Fille 3 Drop Weightless Serum Foundation 🙂
Stephanie !!!! I'm so bummed !🤦♀️ I was super excited about the Dior Face & Body review (I knew it was coming soon) and I thought for sure you would test an area on the body about the coverage (pick a bruise- us 40+ all are getting that "thin skin" so we bruise easier) you missed the boat on that 🤷♀️ I'm 💯 positive everyone else was hoping for this too🤷♀️ NOT a fan of sitting in the Sephora chair and having them poke and prod my arms or legs in front of everyone to test out shades 😫 I know Dermablend is epic (but with their limited color match, good luck finding a matching shade !🙄) I seriously think a body makeup video would be amazing ! Since you're in Nola and I'm in Tucson (both hot AF 🔥) there is no way we're wearing stockings 🥵 to cover up our "old lady spots" 😂 I will 💯 guarantee THAT would be one of your most viewed videos !🙏🤞😊
Hi Kami, You're actually the only person that's mentioned anything about the body. Since the main point of testing these foundations is for the face. And if it doesn't work on my face, there's really no point, in proceeding with the body, right? 🤷🏼♀️ If I'm buying something for my body, it needs to come in a bigger bottle than that and not cost as much. Sally Hansen anyone? I shared that in an Amazon video and it's really good.
@@StephanieMarie I didn't realize (or maybe forgot) Sally Hansen had one ! Now here's the catch.. making it blend with self tanner🤔 now that's the question 🤷♀️
Oh no on the Dior! I rebought not knowing it was reformulated and haven’t used it enough yet to notice the difference. I hope it still works out for me. Such a bummer when they take something perfect and tweak it
I wear Complexion Rescue in the non-matte formula. I like it very much. I use tretinoin and my skin can get flaky. This works better than many other foundations on my skin. I apply it with my fingertips over sunscreen.
Also, the concealer to the silicone line that you’re holding I love the concealer I haven’t tried the foundation yet, but I could see it being amazing that concealer doesnt Cres on me I’m almost thinking of buying darker colours to do my bronzing with that because it’s so well or to do a full face, but maybe I’ll try that foundation first. I have the exact same combo skin. I don’t usually get too much oil in my tea zone but in humidity that’s what I need to text me T-zone lol.
Hi Stephanie, thanks for another great review. I’m not a big makeup wearer, but do love a great foundation that makes my skin look perfected. My go to was the Dior Backstage. I to live in Louisiana, with makeup melting as soon as you walk outside. What would be your next holy grail that you would recommend? I have the same skin type as you enlarged pores , rosacea ,texture. I’m 49. I don’t want anything heavy more skin like. If anyone has any recommendations I would love you input Thank you! Have a great Sunday
I'm working on a top long-wearing foundations video right now! I want to be 100% sure before I recommend it to you! Stay tuned for that video. I'm wear testing all my top ones now to give my top-top picks and (hopefully) a number one!
I will say huda beauty powder has kept me shine free for so long it’s amazing. Bit cakey but I’ve been using it to set and bake under eyes and it’s so good. I bought it on sale, I rather use that every day instead of my Laura mercier powder. But yeah
Damn, got a backup for my Dior backstage old version, but bought a new one as well, still waiting for it to try, will definitely mix it, I usually mix my foundations with Paula’s Choice sunscreen for oily combo skin, love it. So will try to mix new Dior with it as well, maybe with more matte bulletproof Australian gold sunscreen will work with new version even better, will try…glad I have a backup for old version…they had to do a new version as a complete new foundation range, not just reformulate and discontinue the previous one😢
My apologies for not including that. If you ever need more information about ingredients, etc it's included when you look at the product info link I provide in the description box for you. l went ahead and looked up all of them for you and see that only Too Faced and BareMinerals are alcohol free. So you're in look with the Too Faced! :)
Can’t say thank you enough neighbor, I live in Covington. Finally a mature recommended foundation that works with our horrible heat and humidity in the South. I discovered you a month ago . I appreciate your research on the items that help us feel an look better as we age. Keep it all coming.
I've never tried Dior Backstage before the reformulation, so I do not know about the original but I bought the new one recently, and it is one of the worst foundations i used, it does not blur anything , and when i add more it becomes cakey, it was a big let down especially that i tried to wear it after wearing chanel no.1 foundation which was the best foundation i have ever tried.
I used to not be able to use any foundation with spf in it. My skin is very reactive to certain ingredients and being a very fair, redhead sucks because most sunscreens irritate my skin.
Thanks for calling out performance on a rare random dry spot, because having dry very mature skin and using Tretinoin... I kind of always have something like that going on in many spots! xx from Oregon
Hi Stephanie! I just recently found your channel, and not gonna lie i have been binge watching all your video's. May i just ask 1 question, which foundation do you seem to use the most out of all the ones you reviewed? I have tried many of the ones listed but im not 100% sold on any of them. Curious what you use
Hi! Well it's been the old formulas of Dior Backstage and BB Skin Longwear Fluid Tint. I hate they were discontinued! Aside from those, it's probably MUFE HD Skin :) I'm releasing updated Top Foundations videos for various foundations types very soon. Great to have you here! Thank you!
Thank you for the review. I am trying to decide between the Lancome and the Guerlain. I don't live in a humid climate. I have oily, sensitive skin, which one do you think would work?
I used the Bare Minerals foundation several years ago, but it came with a matching powder mineral to use with on the top of true cream. I got good coverage with it, and was long lasting. Stopped using when I found another product that worked better with my changing skin needs.💋❤
I bought the Dior F&B under your recommendation about 1.5 months ago and I’m sure it was the reformulated version. It was terrible! Everything I owned had a slippery coating on it that felt like silicone. It transferred, didn’t touch up well and melted by 3pm. Can’t wait to try the Too Faced skin tint but it’s not in Canada yet. Will purchase next time I’m in the US. Thanks for your reviews!!!
I loved the Lancôme Teint Idole but we have not got the reformulated version here in Australia yet. Coming Sept is the latest update but it sounds like I am not going to be happy. It was a really great foundation. Taking note of your favourites 😊
I loved the original Lancome teint idole, used it for 20 yrs, and am heartbroken they reformulated it😢 I broke down and tried the new one and it’s awful, I had the same issues with it that Stephanie had. So on the hunt for a dupe of the original. I can’t understand why all these cosmetic lines reformulate their best sellers?? They’ve all jumped on the bandwagon with their skin loving ingredients nonsense! Which basically means they use that as an excuse to increase the price! I have skincare products for that and don’t need it in my foundation, also the sunscreen they use in foundation is a joke and wish they’d just leave that out so we can use our preferred one that’s going to be more effective anyway. If anyone can suggest a good dupe for Lancome original Teint Idole I’d love to hear!
If u are more oily, can try shu Uemura matte but if u r less oily, can try Ysl matte new formulation which is quite close to Lancome in my opinion (higher coverage).
I've been using Lancome Tient Idole for 30 years. It was my holy grail. The "reformulation" is worthless! Misleading to keep the same name. I'm so disappointed, looking for the next best thing now. So far, Gucci Luminous Matte seems best. Love to hear other suggestions.
Sometimes they are forced to reformulate due to ingredient availability. Lately I’ve noticed that is the case with a lot of products. Not just in the makeup world either.
I have gone back and forth on the Guerlain foundation so many times and I'm not sure why i havent tried it....think i will do so now!! Your review on the Dior face & body is super disappointing!!! Thankfully i very recently bought a new bottle of the old one! Again the Too Faced ive stayed away from because of the glow in the name!! Goidness 2 new foundations to try!!!! Lol
There will lots of reformulations coming because of new laws passed in the EU on ingredients being banned and some being banned at certain percentages to make them safe for use
I had great luck with the reformulated Lancome foundation once I got a good color match. I could not get on board with the new Too Faced wanted to love it but it was awful. Agree with previous views on Dior....
OMG what a bummer! I’m so glad that I had just bought my Tient Idole Lancome before the reformulation sounds like a no lol plus they don’t make my shade anymore and it was an exact match for my skin 🙁😕🙁 I’m trying the Dior forever if I can ever get the right shade lol
Thanks for confirming my suspicions that the formula changed and it’s awful! It’s sticky and shiny and doesn’t last. It also broke out my skin. Hate it! You helped me find it after Estée Lauder ditched double wear light. Now I have to find another. I’ll keep watching. Thank you Stephanie Marie.
Great reviews! So, do you ever set the foundations with a powder? I have only used powders because of the tzone, but now as I am older, I noticed the lines showing because the powder crinkled up...
🎉Great video and research. I am 59+, and never worn foundation. Where does one start to buy now with all these " new and improved"😮 or " reformulated",🤔. I have oily skin and minimal lines. Stephanie, help??!! What makeup should I start with, lol. Ty.
