It just reinforces something that I know that I need to do...longer videos. So, many of my videos were short because of a lack of confidence. I didn't people would want to watch me for longer than 5 or 6 minutes. Boy, was I wrong. Three of my top 5 videos were 10 - 20 minutes. The subs & watch hours from those videos gave me 80% of my watch hours.

So let me see if i understood correctly, I once rank in suggest first than any other and i was blowing up on youtube, but that was because youtube launched live stream feature and tweaked the algorithm to boost streaming so once i started streaming it boosted all my channel, when it stopped i fell to the ground cuz i had nothing to stabilize, so to rank in Suggest one has to tweak the thumbnails and titles to become more suggestible, thats it?

When I started my new channel, my videos hardly passed 500 views mark. It was frustrating and I almost gave up. It was when my friend told me about using some third party boosting tools (I use a lot of Famester at most), and it gave my channel the traction it desperately needed. After that, I saw an explosive growth. Man, who could have said that a small boost of real views can make your channel blow up!

Good video. I have watched this Evan person and always wonder how he was able to use so many clips in his videos of like wayne dyer and other inspirational people. I don't think a regular person can just go ask Hay House, etc. if they can use content that is not yours, so always curious how these early youtubers were able to get ability to integrate others content into their channel with no copyright stuff, etc. I think many people would like to create similar type videos as Evan, featuring others inspirational talks, etc. Maybe think media can tell us newbies how to get permissions, etc. to do similar videos with no copyright strikes, etc. Overall good video from think media.

Tip 3 seems really relevant. Of the friends I made when we were all sub 1K a few years ago, the guy making the longest videos exploded the most. I make long ones, for sure, but this dude was making like 90 to 400-minute videos. Average watch duration seems super important right now. I'm sure it will change again sometime in the future, but for now, it's worth experimenting with. Personally, I just make them as long as I think they need to be, but my goals on the platform are different than most and I feel my content is super niche.

My videos that are minimum 30 mins do way better than short ones *unless* it’s a massively trending case. But for me changing titles and thumbnails after posting is not worth the risk. Because of the type of content I do, even using a word about where criminals go once taken into custody gets the video demonetized. I would love to see you guys do tips for creators who are in topics where we do have to use words like unalive vs the actual one. I love my genre covering cases but it’s a tricky one as well to be monetized in. Great video though!

People are watching longer videos because TV is growing in popularity - I only watch certain channels on my TV, not usually my phone. Which has a way longer watch time than a computer or phone.

I have been watching your videos, as well as several other content producers, and I have one question… your logic is sound but doesn’t it mostly just apply to creating advice content for creating content? How does your methodology apply to other niches? You get thousands or millions of subs but will it work for hobby niches?

@@EvanCarmichael Really? Hmm... okay, I'm watching this video a second time today. I see tons and tons of "get traffic quick" and "make $10k a month" videos and honestly, they all feel deceptive. They feel more like "watch me make $10k a month" rather than teaching me a way to leverage my niche into making $1k a month. The "get traffic" niche is HUGE because everyone needs it but our niches are so incredibly small in comparison. It seems to me like a lot of these methods only work with your volume of traffic and not mine. Like I said, I'll dive back into this again. Thank you for your response.

Great video but kinda disagree with the longer videos. I’ve found, the longer the video, the worse the retention and watch time. 50% watch time on a 5 min video is possible as people can watch half of it Not many people will watch an hour video. The percentage will be way less and as a result, RU-vid push your video to less people.

Nothing I’ve tried made a difference so far I’ve updated thumbnails and titles many times ( as recommended) No improvement

Keep experimenting. Titles too especially if impressions are low. And check out the retention. If your 1 minute retention is bad then it doesn't matter how much split testing you do on your title / thumbs.

Seems like most of the advice on these channels is for educational content or video essays. Not sure how much of this advice is applicable to entertainment niches. I understand how search based content can give you a nice boost in subs and viewers in the beginning, but won’t you back yourself into a corner and have to keep making search based content to stay relevant?

Take away- not revisiting past videos and testing it out to make changes.

That intro is why is why started with my RU-vid channel, if I get 40 views, my hope is that 1 view had an impact and it changes that person's life. That was what that person needed to hear in that video even I didn't get 1k views.
