This video is about the biological differences found in (HSPs), Highly Sensitive People.
The research on High Sensitivity was carried out by the use of brain scanners and FMRI, on those believed to be Highly Sensitive People.
Please note the following errors in the video:
0.29 - Meant approximately '1 in 5' people and NOT 1 in 4
8.11 - I meant 'Ambient' lighting and NOT Ambivalent

For everyone who's as annoyed by the robot voice as I am: 3:01 *sensitivity in empathy:* mirror neurons are much more active in HSPs -> stronger mirroring of other people's feelings (whether they're loved ones or strangers) => easily overwhelmed, e.g. when watching a horror movie 4:56 *sensitivity in awareness:* more brain activity in the insula & cingulate area -> HSPs are more attuned to what's going on internally & externally 6:04 *sensitivity in emotional vividness:* HSPs have a gene variant that leads to more blood flow in the pre-frontal cortex -> amplifies deep processing of large sensory data (contemplating/planning/expressing personality etc.) => HSPs see the world differently & with more emotional vividness 7:17 *sensitivity in subtlety/genuineness:* different system of "reward hormone" dopamine -> HSPs are less driven by external rewards (bigger pay/social circle/competition) that trigger dopamine release in non-HSPs => instead, meaningful and genuine moments are much more pleasurable and less overwhelming for HSPs 8:28 *sensitivity in neural processing:* carrying short-short variation of the serotonin transporter (="feel good hormone" transporter) -> this variation is associated with depression & other emotional issues -> doesn't necessarily lead to depression. Instead, HSPs are more sensitive to both positive and negative triggers => more overwhelmed due to enhanced neural processing of environment

Had a company have a robot/AI voice call me for doing a take-home version of a medical test. Its imitation female voice had a nearly nails on the chalkboard tone to it. Strike one. It moved through things too quickly for me to keep up with. Strike two. And since it was a robot/AI there was no human to which to say, "hey, wait a minute, slow down, and what was that again?" Strike three. I had to hang up on it, the thing was too stressful. And they did it again a couple days later. Strike four. And once more a couple days after that. Strike five.

Well said, but running away from toxic ppl is only half of the solution...A human being is not made for living alone and in most cases as a survivor of a contact to a toxic person there are no friends left...So how to deal with that point ?
@humanrightsatfirst9163
@humanrightsatfirst9163 3 года назад
@Terri Larsen It takes sensitive ppl around you, who are willed to protect you from the flying monkeys, stalking and who care for your feelings and an environment, who takes the responsibility for failing to protect you !
@strongerasone2403
@strongerasone2403 3 года назад
Sometimes we are not always aware that the people around us are secretly sabotaging our: relationships, friendships, dreams, hopes and happiness. Toxic people often act out their true intentions covertly. Make sure the people in the boat with you, are not drilling holes in it when you are not looking. Covert enemies whether: Family, friends, community or relationships must be weeded out and removed or we remove ourselves. Life is too short to be spent unhappy. If you can handle the truth and 'tough' love, check out 'Tyler JTI' on RU-vid. He will tell you straight what's really going on and how to handle it. It won't be easy. It might get lonely. But eventually you realise that God and yourself is enough. Anything else is a bonus if/when it comes.

Sometimes my empathy ability makes it hard for me to function. A lot of time I can't separate how I am feeling, versus the feelings and energy of others I am picking up on. I usually sit down with pen and paper to work it out and disentangle it. But I can't do this everyday, there's no time, so it often builds and builds. Sigh.

HSP can be mistaken for something else. I thought I was an undiagnosed adult autistic in the beginning. If you susoect you have the trait talk to your doctor. I did and it helped figure out a lot about my illnesses, pain, and my depression. Stress will make us physically sick . Years of it was literally killing me. The short of it is that this DNA trait makes us sensitive to everything but when you know and learn about yourself you'll see it as a super power. A hard learned one.

Am great at other tasks requiring empathetic listening and support. I seem to totally 'tune in' to people, even just on the phone. But now hit huge melt down as cant cope with other aspects of work, causing me deadly stress. Am now kn burnout mode and an odd type of depression. Feels like total overdrive and killing of emotions at same time. Horrible. The worst is feeling like I'm letting vulnerable people down.

I think I fall into this category as I hate being in crowds or where there’s too much noise. I have to be in a peaceful beautiful environment for my own well being which is why I love nature. I always knew I was extremely sensitive and, in my early 20s, was prescribed antidepressants and Xanax. My doctor never asked me about my lifestyle or anything-very quick to prescribe. I was not eating healthy really at all, drank alcohol, and was fairly active, but not taking great care of myself while in college. I went on to take antidepressants for 10 years and was basically numb throughout my 20s and still had many periods of depression and days that I could barely make it to work. When I turned 30, I decided I didn't want to take any medication and began my journey of healing and self-acceptance. I'm almost 36 now and getting off of these numbing drugs was the best decision I ever made. I focused on exercise (walking, yoga, weight lifting, biking, dance), eating healthier (more whole foods, less processed), limiting alcohol, not surrounding myself with assholes, having boundaries, and read so many books to help me through my holistic healing journey. Since getting off antidepressants and birth control, I've also lost 35 pounds and am able to actually FEEL again. It is a struggle to be an HSP, but we have many superpowers as well. When you stop numbing yourself with drugs, food, alcohol, shopping, etc., you will really start to get to know yourself and many people around you will not understand why you "changed". Choose yourself. It's worth it. (*also, I know getting off medication is not for everyone and some people truly need it to function; this was the best decision for me personally) ❤

Whoa!! You saying, "when you choose to stop numbing yourself via food, shopping etc" it really opened my eyes. I have struggled with those two things for years. I never really looked at it as "numbing my HSP" but as a distraction or addictive like behavior instead bc i was lonely or depressed etc. But numbing the pain makes so much sense!! As a highly sensitive person, I suffer the most from manipulative people. Also here main things an HSP live with through their life: 1- Obsessions 2- Phobias 3- Anxiety all the time 4- Weak personality 5- Overthinking 6- Approval addiction Also it can develop toxic attachment to other people. What you have to do is to care less about other people. Have a good love for yourself more than other people. Help people genuinely without seeking acceptance. Say no when it is necessary. Avoid toxic people and narcissists manipulative people. Have more than 3 friends. Avoid hanging out too much with one person. Avoid hanging out with abusive person and don't be shy to say stop. You need a lot of patience to go through and probably you will never go through because it is a nightmare.

It's easy to do most of the suggestions you listed, but how is an HSP to find more than 3 friends?! LOL. It's difficult enough to find one. If you have any tips to find friends as an HSP I would honestly appreciate it. Most people I meet, that I think I'll get along with, actually end up being "incompatible" for a lot of reasons, mostly due to vastly different interests and the fact that they don't have sensory processing sensitivity, which means they might want to invite me to a party, loud event etc. and I won't be glad to come. I thought there was something wrong with me, but deep down there's a "voice" that tells me to stop forcing myself to hang out with people I know I am incompatible with.

Thank god for my grandma who had a big role in my life and gave me the nurturing side I needed. I sometimes think without her I could have possibly turned into a very dark person as actually is very much the case for motherless children. My grandma honed in on my high sensitivity and encouraged it, where to my father I was always told to “stop being so sensitive”.

I grew up as an HSP boy and received zero nurturing. Two of my grandparents were deceased, and two lived thousands of miles away. As I came of age, all attempts to find a girl or a woman to develop a lasting relationship failed. Hence no nurturing basically my entire life. Now I am 66 years old. Women pretty much all of them, at least the ones I desired, saw my sensitivity as weakness and lacking in masculinity. Some even came out and told me I was too sensitive. Sharing my feelings with them sent them all running. I am now retired and spend almost all of my time alone, as far as humans go. I do have certain interactions, mostly involving music or dogs. A couple of hours a week at church. I can use sensitivity to sing and play guitar and provide music with deep feeling and emotion. I can also get along with dogs and somehow communicate with them in ways that no one else can really understand. So I use this to help out adopting out rescued dogs. I just have one dog which is mellow almost all of the time. An active yippy dog or multiple dogs would drive me nuts. Only in recent years have I come to understand various aspects of being an HSP. This video was very helpful in furthering my understanding.

Hi. Ive just learned about this a few days ago, though for my whole life people have said I am too sensible. And I knew I was different and even though I tried to change certain traits I just couldnt. The one about the eyes is crazy, cause I hâd that one for most of my life. Its like we really try to hide ourselves and also avoiding to see the others true colours, though we might still pick up their intentions. Unfortunately for me, years of stress, abuse, depression, diseases have made me loose my mind a bit. If you can, find a calm place for yourself. Do breath work, try growing your own food. But do take care of your soul too. We have souls and we only have just a little time left to make sure we can keep them forever. The Bible is true and God loves us. Call Him now and ask Him to forgive you fir whatever you mightve done, help you understand Him and strenghten you. These upcoming years will be really hard and we really dont have that much time and you never know how much time each one has. I know from experience that He loves us. It came after much suffering and I ended up even blaspheming Him. I didnt really understand why He put us through this and thought He hâd some mean streak în Him. Its hard, so hard and its getting worse. But He wants us to change and come back to Him. The way is our Lord Jesus. Put your trust în Him and even în the worst moments, dont forget He loves us. If we love Him and our brothers we will obey Him. Keep trying and never lose faith în Him for He is as He says He is. Wishing you all the best.

I have lived with it for a long time and it can be disconcerting depending on the situation. Negative emotions and hate are worse ones ever. To sense that feeling when someone walks into the building where my office is is weird. It engulfs the entire building and everything feels uneasy. To pickup people’s emotions while weird it’s nice as well. I use to have a brother from another mother that would help me when I would get caught up in sadness because it pulls me down making me feel like I’m drowning. I am still working on learning how to deal and I’m only 40.

Good luck. It's more than hsp. Its called contagion empathy. You actually feel it with out wanting too. Most think they are like this but no. They see it and act empathic. But yeah, when you can feel the hate in a room from a person it's hard to get that hate out of yourself. That's how strong it is.

What is disappointing is at 49 years old I still struggle from the foundation my parents started building me on. By God’s grace he carried me through but to hear my parents say “Get over it, it’s the past, why do you live in the past, how many times do I need to say I’m sorry, we did the best we could”. That’s hard to hear and does stir up emotions.

Same here. I was told you're too sensitive, you wont talk to her, that's not you, is she going to dump you, I dont want to hear it, and basically NEVER got advice geared toward ME, if I did, which was rare, it was about what THEY would do. Making it irrelevant. No advice or concern over who my friends were, what my real interests were, womens nature etc. etc. In fsct I always felt like my father was disgusted by me. Naturally I grew up with no boundaries and no confidence in my own direction. You never finish ironing it out

I had biofeedback done and my resonant frequency, i think it was or some activity measurement, was 50,000 and the normal levels were 3,000-7,000 10,000 being extremely high. The practitioner was dumbfounded and right away sent signals trying to lower that but my instincts said, no, it didnt feel like a bad thing to me instinctually, i know i am deeply connected to nature when i am feeling something intensely the nature around me responds like the fairytales. In fact its the only place i experience true peace, the most u disturbed by human natural environments. But i love humans. At 19 i remember pondering heading into the woods to live with nature but immediately had the awareness i would feel everything humans were going through anyway and i like humans i guess. But plants and animals i am certain i love.i love humans. Creation creativity. Remember its ALL Connected

They get depressed easily. So its important for walks in a peaceful park. It's good for everyone's rejuvenation n mental health. If you like animals n live in an apartment. You can get your doctor to sign papers for an emotional support animal. Also strong family emotionally support can help you. Even your best friend can support you emotionally as well. I like going to the Zoo, parks, n eating outside weather permitting. Invite a family or friend over n cook bbq outside depending if your apartment management allows it or go to a park where they have grills. Go to the library or church. Or church with your preferred denomination. Churches always have food drives, serve/sell food n have activities. There are alot of free things or low cost things you can do. Such go fishing or lat out on the beach with a friend. The sun is free n so is the sun. Don't sit at home. Being Highly sensitive can be reinvigorating.

Hi. Unfortunately many people experience humiliation even if they are not hsp. I like to think no one can humiliate with what they think about me or say to me. Only God has the right to judge me and the rest of us. It does hurt for a while but when you know that maybe even them got hurt aloot în their lives and they just cant change, it makes it easier. Some just dont understand, some have been abused themselves and end up abusing others. If you can, after getting an off remark, wistle if you can. Do something cheerful immediately. Without judging that person, just being grateful you are still alive and being able to do stuff. It will cheer you up. We lose our time with things that dont matter. What matters is how behave în accordance with God's laws. Taking care of our souls and making sure we get to keep them forever. It took me many years to really understand that. Ive ruined myself but finnally I know God is who He says He is and as He says He is. He loves us and thats what matters above all. If you want to ask me anything, I will answer. Wishing you the best. Put your faith and trust în God now and know He keeps His words.
