It is best to hoover brush otherwise a feather duster just spreads the dust elsewhere and your breathing all the dust on your chest then damp wipe after
Feather Duster. It reaches way higher than my arm can, fewer swipes (after 20+ yrs in the profession, my shoulders are shot), and done in the blink of an eye. That said, I come back through to polish. My fav part! 😊
#1 tip, eliminating as many things (dust catchers) and furniture (flat) surfaces will dramatically reduce the time it takes to dust your home. Love, Minimalism
I’ve been following your channel for a few years now & have found you give the most practical cleaning advice without excessive cleaning products. So many others push (and are likely paid for) promoting an excessive amount of products. But I’ve learned from following you that simple is better! For dusting, I’ve been using uses dryer sheets. Even with already being used in the dryer, it retains a great ability to grab & cling to dust!
I’m dust allergic ! So I use the vacuum with brush attachment first then if needed wipe with a damp microfibre :) if there’s a lot of dust then I wear a mask too..xx
I've wondered about professionals' opinions on this. I used to *dust exclusively with the vacuum cleaner* (canister Filter Queen with brush attachment). I had the same logic---vacuum it up and it's 'gone'. It's definitely more awkward pulling the vacuum along everywhere. And vacuuming high surfaces means either switching to a cloth for those areas, or picking up the canister with one hand and vacuuming with the other. One thing the *vacuuming method is great for is dusting fancy picture frames* or other surfaces with lots of ridges, curlicues and the like. In fact I don't know how others clean those without vacuuming. Maybe doing general dusting with the vacuum is not a popular method because people find it awkward? I'd like to hear others' experiences and opinions.
When I was younger I actually put Pine-Sol and water in a bowl and cleaned the furniture with that. As I have gotten older I thought I would try the Swiffer Duster. I really liked them in the beginning. Then I realized the dust resettled back onto the surface. So back to Pledge like products. Then I found YOU!!!😊 I love microfiber cloths. They clean anything and everything. I also love your DIY products. I have shared them with my daughter and my daughter in law. They love them too. Thanks Melissa!
I had a student once who made the distinction between "Looks Clean" and "Is Clean". For "Looks Clean" I use a feather duster because it's easy and fast. For "Is Clean" I use microfiber because it works better.
If I was your son...only thing I'd be doing is being at home doing what you tell me to do with no back talk or arguing. I'd do all of the cleaning so you don't have to worry with it! I'd help out in all other areas. My only happiness would be to obey you and make you happy!
You are the first person I have heard to dry dust. It makes such a difference thinks soo much. Also I did switch to microfiber cloths now and like you said such a huge difference. Thanks so very much. Greatly appreciated
I bought my first microfibre cloths from Makers Clean about 11/2 ago, what a game changer! I had tried cheaply versions first and I’m never going back. They work so well it was really kind of unbelievable. So much more efficient. Thank you for a great product.
I use feather dusters, but stopped and use swifter. I was going to switch to microfiber, but I am going to start using the microfiber now. I love how you explain everything. Taking everything off to dust makes a lot a sense. It will make cleaning a lot faster. I love this video and I am a new subscriber! Thank you for posting this.
At the beginning of each month I do a full deep dusting with micro cloth. The rest of the month each week , I use a Swiffer 360 to maintain . This saves huge amount of time. Only takes 15-20 mins each weak to maintain
We have two cats and hair is crazy on our laminate floors. Instead of vacuuming before I dust I will use the pet swifter all around the edges, then moving into the centre to remove majority of the hair. Then I clean/dust and vacuum at the end. I find it works for my situation.
I love my Swiffer with the extended handle for ceiling fans and the space between tall furniture and the wall. Everything else I use a microfiber cloth to dust with.

2 questions. Does each room get a separate cloth or when do you shake it? Then, how do you transport this dust filled cloth to the trash or outside to shake it? Put it in a bag so dust is not strewn through the house on the way to outside or whereever it ends up? Well, 4 questions. Do you wash your microfiber cloths?
The humidity in Florida makes dust stick to furniture, ceiling fans and baseboards. It needs to be double dusted, just as you discussed. A tip for microfiber cloths and the film on car windows: wipe the inside with a clean (no fabric softener) cloth. It may take a couple of cloths, but the microfiber removes the film. Using a window cleaner just smears it around. After wiping, the windows look great and don’t need to be washed.
Really? I'm not doubting you, it's just that cleaning the inside of the windshield on cars has been a decades long discussion with the general consensus being it's an involved, awkward, thankless job no matter how one does it---lol. Like you said, there's a recurring 'film' on the inside, and it's a bear to get off without streaks and smears. My method, honed after years of doing windshields and watching and reading helpful hints is to: -> Windex the whole thing thoroughly -> Wipe off the Windex with a cloth (cotton or good microfibre). Note: It won't be anywhere near clean at this point. This is just to get off the lion's share of film / dirt / grease. -> Then Windex *_lightly_* a second time -> Wipe thoroughly again with another clean cloth -> Check results against the light, and if still the slightest streaky, smudgy or filmy, repeat a light Windexing and another clean cloth rubbing until satisfied. For the first two step 'rough cleaning' some people substitute a damp cloth---that is, a cloth with hot water and any dish soap wrung out until just damp. To year that you get a good result with just a good (dry) microfibre cloth wiping is pretty freeing.
@@be5952 You are so right: windshields are awkward to clean. That’s why I was glad to learn this tip. If the inside is dirty, it should be cleaned after wiping away the film with a microfiber cloth.
That's why you clean the floor after. She addressed this in the video. Loser! A shame that our nurses don't have the patience to sit through a 5 minute video. You clicked on it, so you were obviously trying to learn some tips, but tried to contradict the first point? Loser x2! Hope you're not longer a nurse.
I use your microfiber cloths from Makers Clean and I will never dust & clean with another brand ever again. I have given them as gifts to family members who hate cleaning and they tell me that the cloths make cleaning "tolerable" for them. I love Makers Clean microfiber cloths.
I do both I clean this girls house every other Friday and wow big house a lot of stuff!! I be in there all day!! But I will start using microfiber cloths lol!!❤
Makes me smile to know my mother was a cleaning genius and apparently it was in the genes since she learned from her mother! So it's nice to see younger generations doing (and teaching) it "the right way" as mom would say. Thanks!
I recently started dusting by using my vacuum extension. It gets rid of the dust without flying around at all. It sucks it all in! I even use it on fairly small items, but obviously not everything. Some things are too small or "grooved" to get clean with the vacuum.
I use a long handled microfiber(?) duster, I can't reach a lot of higher areas to dust. I may try the microfiber cloth where I am able as there is a suspected dust allergy with someone at home.
I use Swiffer dusters. From time to time, I will need to use a damp microfiber cloth afterwards to remove dirt smudges, but Swiffer dusters actually pick up the dust, love them.
I never vacuum last ,here in Az your blow dust just walking around. The more rural the more dust. The softer to dust with has so far wonderful. But no on everything. Vacuum first and try to beat back the dust storms.
Thank you for this quick and concise dusting video. I knew the top to bottom rule but I learned about dry dusting, sections, left to right; remove, dust, replace; sandwich method. My question is: After you dust with an absorbent (I didn’t know a more absorbent cloth would pick up more dry dust 🤯) microfiber cloth, do you shake it out or put it in the wash and use a clean one for the next room? Also your cloths are probably better than other microfiber cloths I tried. I didn’t like the texture/feel of them bc the cloth stuck? to my hand. Thank you again 😊
Shake them out, outsidè the house A LOT WHILE DUSTING. Or is this oldfashioned? Not needed? I need to try this swiffer and microfiber dusters. I am 70 and have never used one. Never too old to learn new tricks, ay?
Even with microfiber cloths, I will sneeze all day if I dry dust. With a very light misting of water on the cloth, the dust doesn’t seem to get airborn.
I might have a dumb question but am I supposed to be taking my microfiber cloths outside and shaking the accumulated dust off them or can I just throw them in the washer with the dust on them? Will they get clean? Where does the debris go? 🤣 (I have allergies so I hope there is a better way-should I vacuum the cloth?)
I never understood the feather duster method. Ever since I I discovered your channel I’ve been microfiber all the way. The only problem I have is getting my family to remember to never use oils, polishes, etc. with the microfiber cloths 😩
My upstairs neighbor shakes her funky dust cloth at the top of the stairs outside my kitchen window which makes me sneeze and cough. Please be considerate of your neighbors!
Not a dusting question but… you said hot water ruins the cloths. If I use one as a dishrag can I rinse it with hot tap water or do I have to use cool water?
Ok but I have a question... i just bought a house that has wood doors but this wood has texture and I have tried everything from dry cloth to swifter to vacuum to damp cloth but everything just keep on getting caugh in these texture wood. The texture is like very fine fibers of wood sticking out not enough to poke me but enough to get cloth or such caught on it. Its supper annoying and it collects dust all the time.
Honestly sounds like they need sanded and refinished. You may have some luck by oiling the doors with something like Murpheys oil in the meantime. The only wood I have that acts like this is a bathroom cabinet and it's in need of light sanding and some polyurethane.
Feather dusters just throw dust around. Microfiber are the best. I have not dry dusted though. I Can see I’m doing this wrong. I spray pledge onto my microfiber cloth and polish/dust at the same time so I’m basically wetting the dust and rubbing in, yuck Yvonne.
Oh dear. I Knick knack all over my house. And I hate, I say HATE cleaning So I dust/clean with Endust. Infrequently! I don’t know any other way. So let me have it guys!
Thank you so much for your time and effort I really appreciate all our videos . I suggest you read about Islam to gain happiness in this life and day after
