Great selections! Hiroshima is so well made. Memories of Murder was fantastic. It gave me Zodiac vibes. I’ll be picking up Shaft, Ghost World and Mystery Train to name a few. Can’t wait for the in store video! Cheers.
I love Korean cinema too. They’re so emotional in a way American movies aren’t. I also like the theme of oppression of women in Memories of Murder. And the ending with the 4th wall break and the cop using his special sight to see if the killer is perhaps in all of broader Korean society.
That ending in Memories is so goddamn iconic, I agree. I was thinking of making a video dedicated to Korean cinema but I’m waiting until I’ve watched a few more films (Thirst, Broker, Poetry, etc)
Bong Joon Ho is a genius, almost all of my favorite movies from Korea are him's, Memories of murder, Mother, Parasite (and I would add Snowpiercer too but that was made in the US)
As a European traveling to the US in July, I am beyond excited to get my hands on some Criterion!! I’m planning on picking up around 15 Blu-ray’s, must buys for me are Brazil / Blue Velvet / Paris, Texas / Inside Llewyn Davis / Seven Samurai / High and Low / Andrei Rublev. And I’ll see what else I’m buying when I’m there :) Btw, “Resnais” is pronounced like “Reney”
Damn, those must buys happen to be some of my all time favorite films. Good luck participating in the sale! Also, I was thinking while editing that it was pronounced like Reney. My dumb western brain kicks in way too much😂
@@BillGriff1 While we're at it, "Hiroshima" is pronounced "He LOW she ma," with the emphasis on the second syllable. "Hero SHE ma" is the American butchering of the name. :)
This is a very different list and I was expecting for the must have criterions.😂 Seems very mixed, but it's funny to see broadrick in that role considering Fares Buler character.
I would recommend Mathieu Kassovitz' La Haine, wonderful photography direction and is sorta like the sopranos in sense that is more character driven more than plot driven, It has tons of inspiration from the french Nouvelle Vague and deals with social dilemas in a really poignant way Also, I love your video style, im definitely subscribing
Very cool video! Continue making clips about Criterion. There are useful recommendations. I'm from Bulgaria and Criterion disks are not sealed here, there is not the streaming service. Which is sad , but it's not a stopper for exploring this essential films. Great work!
Hey man, thought I'd let you know I mentioned you in a recent video of mine, I picked up the criterion of "Hiroshima mon amour". Have a good one man! Cheers
