As a designer I agree with some of these but technically there are no “mistakes” if you enjoy them. The problem with these videos is how,they are presented as mistakes as opposed to things that you just don’t prefer. That isn’t to say that others would not enjoy.

I agree. Change is about changing preferences rather than mistakes. I personally love built ins.

Mounting a TV above a fireplace is always a mistake - without exception. For the reason that was pointed out, but more importantly because it forces the viewer to tilt their head back to watch it. It forces your neck into an unnatural position and it also forces the viewer to often slouch down in their seat to try to compensate.
@nmbr6kid
@nmbr6kid Год назад
I don’t see these as mistakes so much as changing what you enjoy or learning your preferences more deeply. There was nothing unappealing in the earlier versions, just different.

I’m patiently waiting for the day when the tv is not the enemy of interior design. TVs that new modern tech that we gotta get use to 🙄 Our tv is on a wall in the main living room and it’s so much fun to watch movies, sports, cooking shows while entertaining or when it’s just our family.

I think her house is very beautiful and TVs aren't cute, but I agree. Binging series together is what my husband and I do a lot, I'd rather enjoy it in a beautiful room than tucked away.

The issue with this is most people are addicted to screens.

I bought an old house in December 2022, apart from cleaning the filth everywhere the first thing I have just done is add an extra window in the kitchen. The difference is amazing, there is so much light from the new window, it catches the light until near sunset and has made a huge difference in how the whole downstairs feels.

YOu explained your thought process and why items didn't work for you as you grew into your home really well. Biggest take away that I would encourage others to consider when designing their own home, is to focus more on how you want YOUR home to work for you, and ask a lot of deep questions for each room of the house before diving into image inspiration and looking at what others have done. Especially when just starting out and lacking confidence. It is so easy to get wrapped up in what you see online and what others are doing that we think it is what we WANT but rather it is what we think we want. When we dive into the questions of what we actually like, how the room needs to work for us, what are the goals of the space, and the relationship and flow of one room to another, we are more easily able to make decisions that work for ourselves, our families, and our homes, and how we truly live, not how we think we should be living. But really great reflection and ability to assess what was working and what was not working and solutions on how to fix it later.

Love your style… it has helped me define myself recently. We had built a house and I understand what you mean by design mistakes. It may not be a mistake for others but a mistake because you don’t know or maybe you ignored and were not true to yourself and/or family. We experienced that as well. So happy you shared your personal journey. It encourages me to reflect on my choices as well.

This video gave me so much hope and confidence. We renovated our house last summer and it really showed me that my passion lies in interior design. But even looking back to one year ago there is so much I’ve learned, and so many projects I want to do and that’s ok!

To make a home inviting and cozy and welcoming your need color! All I see in the video is black, white, and brown. Even the greenery is lifeless. Try some pictures on the wall. Or art. Or anything that says I do not live in a pottery barn showroom. The world is full of wonderful creations. Color your life with design.

Camille! This couldn't have come at a better time. We are building a home and art studio (framing began this week!) We recently decided to opt OUT of a large built-in open bookshelf that will act as a wall in the living room. Art books are HEAVY, but why build them in? What if I lay out the room differently one day. We have 3 windows in our kitchen design and a plastered hood vent! BUT now I am looking at your long open shelves and may rethink my tall counter-to-ceiling cabinets that flank the kitchen. downlight-checking off that box now too! The TV!! Oh the drama, right? We are two artists and have SO much art we have created and collected. Now I will also rethink this, at least hard-wiring it in one spot. So I am a big thumbs up on these videos. Even though I am creative, I feel like I am floundering in my personal aesthetic as well, I have lived in SO many places. Do more videos! A big thumbs up, it was crazy helpful for me. I am plotting bathroom vanities as we speak, haha!

This is so helpful … especially the part about built ins limiting future configuration and windows in kitchens… so many ‘design’ people overlook the permanent nature of both things and prescribe these to everyone

Coming from Germany, (and live in North America for over 15 years) I've never understood why people have to have built-in shelves/cabinets, most of the time heavy looking. Same thing with closets - i really dislike closets (!) and there are none in our house that we built beside a walk-in. It is easier to change out furniture instead, like wardrobes or a shelving unit or a credencia etc. after one gets tired of it or they get scratched or a different set up is required etc.

Wonderful visuals for us, everything is just stunning and helpful. I will definitely look for another design video in the future. Perhaps using decor that isn't in your budget, but the "normal" person's budget. I wish i could shop in your boutiques, but I cannot always do that. Thank you, you're just adorable and have such talent.

I think interior decoration should emphasize and honor ideas and likes of the owners, not what's trendy or what everyone is buying. Different people have different tastes. Trend are purely money making strategies to make people spend their money. Tv over the fireplace is often used by low class income houses due to lack of spaces or family rooms. You can still keep tv over the fireplace using Samson tv with pic frame 🖼️ so it doesn't look like tv hanging there. You can also use projector screen if your fireplace is wide enough, use the white fireplace wall as projector screen, so the living space look sleek and tech savvy. It really works marvelously when you have kids trying to watch TV, looking for remote control that you intentionally hided somewhere.....😂😅😅😅

I believe it is VITAL to have windows in one's Kitchen and Bathroom..... I feel claustrophobic without a window..... also, it's important to have a window in those areas to be able to get fresh air circulation into the room. A larger window in the kitchen provides so much natural light and it feels " refreshing ". I detest tge " Television over the fireplace " thing , I'd like to know WHO actually started that silly idea...it's not pretty....it's not functional and it's not Ergonomically good. I Personally don't care for a TV in one's lounge - AKA living room- but if there is no other room, then you kind of have to resign yourself to it but there's ways to disguise it or make it look integrated. Really good points, and I think it's important to go by " how you FEEL in the space ( room) " .... I think people need to learn to trust their Intuition and their Intuitive skills when it comes to Design and Decor... because a lot of times your body And your emotions will tell you that " it doesn't feel right"... 🙂😊

First time here! I loathe built ins/fireplace set ups. It’s so predictable and boring. I like versatility in design. Also cool that your tv lounge is separate from the family/main living space. Americans and tvs .. I’m American but I travel a lot and quite like tvs as just an activity not a necessity especially when most of us have other things we use to watch movies etc like phones tablets and laptops
