I do like these exercise/drill videos, Malcolm. Some days I spend the entire day just repping a single run, trying to improve my technique (I’m just past beginner, doing my first blues, and trying not to get bad habits). 52 years old, and thanking you for teaching me how not to catch an edge :) Thanks!

I'm younger, work in the gas and oil industry in Canada. Not much time, but when I go snowboarding I enjoy just doing exercises, drill. I love techniques, drills. That's why Malcom is my favourite teacher for snowboarding online. I wish him huge success.

Bro, awesome you're still doing this. I'm 46 now and only recently decided to get into this sport. This will be my 2nd season. Like you, I spent a good amount of hours each day doing drills. And finally, finally I got to that moment. As Malcom mentioned in another video, the moment you feel that carve and your edge gripping, it's like magic. Even more crazy is taking your board and literally surfing down the run. A great feeling. For me, with the powder I'm just imagining like I'm surfing the waves back and forth while doing my s turns. Low and on the edge short and wide S turns. An amazing feeling and fun. Still doing drills for the goofy side so I can ride switch for even more fun. Helmet saved my life and the butt pads saved my tail bone. I fell twice from catching heel edge, falling backwards. Make sure the gear is quality. My tail bone suffered bruising the first time with some cheap padded shorts. I upgraded to a better one and the second time I fell hard, saved my butt despite it being bruised still. I dont know how old you feel, but stay safe and wear protective gear at all times.

@@mankybrains Hi guys, please, enough with this age thing. I’m much older, so much more experienced and knowledgeable about snowboarding than most riders on Earth and I ripped up the mountains all day long, carving perfect pencil lines with my 75 year old woman friend.

Love drill videos. Been riding for 10 years but wasted so much time just aimlessly going down the mountain instead of actively trying to improve my technique. Last year I took my first steps towards becoming an instructor. It was basically the first time I had a teacher and they completely changed my perception and view on snowboarding. Been focusing much more on fixing bad habits and improving overall stance, switch riding, carving etc. I've always loved snowboarding but theses past trips have definitely been the most fun I've had on a board. I still catch myself going into tunnel vision and just speeding down slopes from time to time but I usually always have a goal while riding nowadays. Your videos help a lot! Keep up the good work :)

One thing that really helps when trying to clean up your carves is to listen. The more you skid your turns, the louder they will be. Try to make your turns as quiet as possible, while thinking about tilting your body over each edge like a metronome. As you transition between edges, pay attention to what you feel in your front boot. You should feel it press along the outside of your foot from pinky toe to heel as you change edges. If you ever feel the boot pressing against the inside of your front foot (your arch), you're likely leaning back towards the tail too much. Great video as always Malcolm!

dolphin turns are big, especially when you combine them with moguls (using the ollie in the trough to 'slap' the next mogul with the tail of your board, sending you up and over the bump rather than forward out of control). not great at it yet, but every one in three or so feels dope!

That's the only one out of the list that I can't do. 🤔 It's always too busy, or the conditions aren't idea, so practicing it is almost impossible on holiday. If I could make it to an indoor slope, I'd try it though.

Fantastic, I'm looking forward to trying these out and getting my season off to a good start! Have you ever done a video on improving ollies? It was a big focus for me last season to get more height, particularly off side hits, but I don't feel like I actually improved all that much. In the offseason, I've been working on my flexibility and strength, particularly in my legs, so I hope that helps when I get back on the board. Your videos helped me improve a lot in other areas last season, so I would be thrilled if you made an ollie deep dive eventually! Cheers!

Very good drills! I recently was giving a new boarder a lesson and had him focus on a couple similar drills. He did very well and was able to figure out which stance he preferred. He didn't know if preferred goofy or regular. He started doing turns after he got used to the drills. He said he spent all day on the bunny slopes. I got him to go up with me on the green runs and he got to spend more time on the run than on the lift. The bunny slope lift, he would have spent way more time just riding the lift then practicing. I definitely wasn't as good at explaining as you but he did understand. I referred him to your channel for further lessons. You definitely have helped me help others.

Malcolm these videos are brilliant. I watch them over and over before I go away and try to use all the exercises on the piste. I started watching three seasons ago, before my first trip teaching my 10 year old to board and they have been invaluable. We are heading off to Cervinia in march (he’s 13 now) and we were really excited to see the Matterhorn in the background of one of your latest vids. Are there any exercises you think would be good for two boarders, watching each other and spotting each others problems for example. Or games to play that would help me help him move into switch riding. We are the two boarders in a large party of skiers and we like to get off on our own and find the steep stuff every now and then, that gives me good time to work on both our techniques. Keep up the good work. Alex

These drills are great! I'm an advanced free rider looking to polish up my carving and add some buttering. I use your drills to teach my sons as well, they're 5 & 7.

Hi Malcolm, nice content as always. When I go snowboarding I feel very tired on my quads just after a couple hours, and I have good legs. Do you have any tips for reducing riding fatigue? I feel it's a bad riding technique rather than bad athletic form.

I dont understand the people... at 9:31 what was the concept of the black cloth rider? It was fully visible for a long time you turn there. In the low speed carving part a skier almost hit you. Otherwise very helpful video! Congrat again!

Ah it often looks better than it is, actually pretty icy after all the rain we've had! But yes, could be alot worse!

Your teaching had helped me a lot. I'm 50 years old. I'm learning how to spray snow and ride away. Is there a proper way to do it? I want to make a short clip for my wife being sprayed with snow by me! I'm just passed beginner level and looking forward to improve my ride. Thanks a Ton!

Hey Malcolm! Currently in Alpe d'Huez, maybe I'll say hello if i catch you on the slopes! Thanks foe all your tutorials. Im on my third week snowboarding now and i'm feeling very confident thanks to all of those, slaying reds, blacks, and off piste tracks. Maybe too much so though, I'll practice those tomorrow in Baralpettes 🫡 dont get cocky guys! 😂

Its so simple even a kid can do it! 😂😂😂. Only reason why I told myself to go down a black diamond though I was still learning. Sure enough, it wasn't too bad as long as you stick to good technique. Of course I stumbled and grumbled down the black diamond the first few times but still at the end, great fun and enjoyment.

@@mankybrains I tried a black diamond run once in a sunny blue bird day. There is only ice left on that run and I cannot even stand on my heel side there 😱 I get a nightmare after that run. 😂

@@tontj yeah, that totally sucks. I did that last season a good amount of ice on the black diamond. Sadly though, I found out each mountain has it's only 'universal grading' of how the runs are labeled. Over in California, there are 3 resorts from Vail. One being the easiest and the other two progressively harder. The black diamonds at the resort I go to is considered green by many at the other resort. 🤣🤣🤣
