Worked great on about 6"-8" of average snow starts to struggle a bit past 8". ru-vid.comUgkxoHYZbq5g9fkcAtinlTqstNlje-UQkCHN Very light weight and the chute spin control works well. For the low price you get a ton of value. My only complaint is managing the cord as it does take a fair bit of effort to watch and pull the cord out of the way. I found myself having to whip the cord out of the way a lot when I needed to make one way passes to mange the blow direction. It's less of an issue when you can work both directions. A battery powered version would be a lot easier to handle but that is also double the price and requires battery care. I chose the corded version so I didn't have to worry about batteries but I do now see how much work the cord is. I let my neighbor borrow it and it outperformed his smaller gas blower, he was totally sold. Very pleased with the power and operations.My only suggestion is to spend a bit more on a cordless version if you have budget for it. The cord is a bit more of a headache than I thought it would be. Very pleased with the Snow Joe brand and quality.

yeah over by PA. Skiers use the bunny slops so much they get packed down tight than frozen. Instead of a gentle angle down, they are way steeper than necessary but the hill itself is small. Makes terrible practice.

So jealous of that bunny flat! I'm learning at overcrowded Snowbowl in Flagstaff, AZ. Between the Phoenix desert dwelling crowd that have no equipment and are only there to loiter on the bunny slope to take selfies and the complete lack of ANY flat area....it's been trial by fire 😂

I feel a bit bad for Alice. I'd say she was learning really fast and was doing great but got completely outshadowed by Elsbeth who was unbelievably fast in progressing. A few years ago I went on a snowboard camp to learn how to snowboard and the instructors had the exact same methods you have and with the exact same detailed explanations. It's so important to have instructors that can explain the physics behind the movements and not just "turn your shoulder and the board will follow" like I heard some of them do. Awesome video!

A lot of lessons with a lot of disparate teachers and no one couldn't explain me how to turn, they were all about "open and close a door with the arm" or "watch were you want to go and the board will follow" until I watched your leverage method and I was like: NOW I KNOW! Went on the mountain binded my feet and did the first linked turn than I almost cried... Thank you Malcolm

It is very dependent on the student too, we all aprehend a metaphore in a different way. To make people understand a very precise general body movement which slightly moves your mass center, you gotta start somewhere and it doesnt always produce the same result. I am no professionnal but I learned the basics to a few people. I tried to explain it alternatively with a rotative hip movement that you can "pilot" with your hands on the hips, or with a shoulder movement with both arms extended in the shoulder line, the front arm pointing at the direction you wanna go. If i go "hips and shoulders aligned, bend your knees, move your body weight on your front foot ... no, too much on the front foot ... your but is too far behind, chin up ..." I will have a frutrated student on the ground in no time. You gotta find a description of the general movement that works. The levers metaphor looks great, i wanna try that. I m glad it worked for you. Happy riding !

Second season for me. First season I “taught” myself. It was great but definitely missed some of the fundamentals. This time around I found this video and took my first day to get all this tips and exercises and applied that that day. By the second day the improvement was so noticeable that I keep following your advice. by the 3rd day I was connecting turns and catching an edge was almost non existent. My riding was so smooth. the difference of having a coach! i learned through a lot many youtube videos, and so in first two days that i went, i mastered the heel side fallen leaf. This video helped me to practice the toe edge fallen leaf, and i managed to then link them up together and do the basic turns! Thanks a lot. Going to read more now, and hopefully be able to say "yes, i know snowboarding" by the end of this winter. This video was amazing! One emphasis to everyone: Put the weight on the front leg!

My first time was last Monday, and the teacher was the worse, he literally spent half an hour talking about the boards and the boots, almost trying to avoid to teach us. Second time was 2 days ago, on Friday, and a friend of mine was teaching me and everything made much more sense. Still a beginner, but putting my weight on my downhill foot is probably the scariest thing I had to get in the habit of; I always felt like I was going to fall forward on my face!

Excellent video that essentially prepared me to snowboard for the first time at 54 years old. I took lessons on the mountain, but this video (and all his other videos) really helped with the theory and prepared me to actually make S turns by the second day.

My girlfriend just had her first week of snowboarding. Unfortunately group lessons weren't available, so she had to make do with a private lesson at the start of the week, which took her right up to the point of learning how to link turns. I tried to teach her turning throughout the next few days, and then she had another private lesson which was next to useless. The next morning (unfortunately on the last day!) I took her out to practice using your technique. Thirty minutes later, after only two small runs holding her hand, and then she was already off and linking turns by herself!

Phenomenal video. Really wish i had something like this when I was trying to learn. I swear Elsbeth is better after 6 hours than I am after 2 years. Will definitely be practicing whilst thinking about these techniques. One thing I would add to any reading this comment.... Buy or hire the right gear. I purchased an older, 2nd hand snowboard rather than hire, and I believe it made it far more difficult to learn on(due to camber profile and flex). Other than that, get as much time as you can on the snow, and ENJOY! Thank you so much for the awesome content, keep up the great work.

@@BlueCrystal1996R An update, as requested: Such an amazing first experience! Definitely doing this again asap! I took a short introductory lesson and it really helped to have someone there, correcting me as I went on. I ate A LOT of snow today, but that's just part of the process. It happened mostly on my toe edge, as I didn't lift my heels enough/correctly. Trying to think of Malcolm's explanation about toe edge position, the last few runs went a bit smoother. At first, I found it difficult to initiate the traverse on both edges (the slope wasn't very wide either, didn't really help). It was rather difficult to keep myself centered on the board AND put more weight on my front foot AND keeping my knees bent. But the last few runs went a bit smoother. I also encountered another issue. When I was on my toe edge and trying to think of Malcolm's example, I didn't bend my knees enough while trying to push out my hips. In turn, my shoulders went over the toe edge and it made the board slip out from under me on multiple occasions. I hope to work on this in the near future. Leaning on the front foot is a challenge, especially when you start picking up speed. Something to work on for sure. Malcolm's absolutely amazing analogy of ski poles/levers has helped immensely! It really helped me to initiate turns a bit easier, but I do need to work on the timing. Wrong timing messed a few turns and made me catch an edge on multiple occasions. However I was able to link up a few of them, thanks to the tips I picked up in this gem of a video. A few very, very crude S-shapes were made, I'd call that a small win for my part.

I've noticed that nobody suggests in their lessons for students to do some minimal body/limb stretching before starting the lesson. I think its crucial and will help from a super sore body so that the students can practice along with more stamina and less muscle aches,cramps and sores.Those things can be discouraging to beginners mentally and physically.

Thank you for the detailed, well explained steps! Just got my first 4 hours in without a teacher (2x 2h indoor thing). First 2 hours were a lot of falling :-) but managed to get down a few times without. Today went a lot better, almost didn't fall anymore on the beginner slope. Toe side feels easy but riding on the heel edge is still challenging. I tend to skid and break a lot and my body wants to go inverted down instead. Again, many thanks for making these vids, cheers

today i rented a board just to get a feel but no instructor was wanting/could teach me and oh my god is it much harder than skis, ive learned a new level of respect for snowboarders hahaha... but fr i will learn one day and hopefully i will be able to get a teacher and not just an amazingly informative video! thanks man this is really useful edit: im making the instructors seem like they where shoving me away, their main job is the ski's so some have never touched a board and all i did was ask for any tips/tricks when i came face to face while we where on the rope pull on the bunny slope (the smallest one, still steep tho if i knew its way easier to grasp on flats first i would have :) )

Ive had a 12 year layoff from boarding hence why I'm here. There aren't many good snowboard instruction RU-vidrs out there.....BUT you Sir are definitely one of the good ones, I started boarding 22 years ago and apart from a few new techniques (which look like great additions to what i was taught) this is exactly how I was taught over 2 decades ago. Simple, concise information. Yourself and some American/Canadian youtubers are keeping it old skool.👍👍

Given the space you have had with both the students also helps. I did my basic and intermediate training at Chillfactore in Manchester.... very limited slope length plus the slope was too steep for a beginner. I always check out your vids because they explain the fundamentals of each skill needed to improve your riding. Keep up the good work, your a good tutor.

Thanks, yeah this was filmed last season when none of the lifts (apart from the magic carpet) were running. That explains the quiet slopes and also why at the end we hiked up a pretty poorly pisted slope! Looking forward to things hopefully going back to normal this year!

Oh wish I had a slope like this and a teacher like you. I tried it last year with a friend who knows how to snowboard, so I could just watch and learn, but I never got to the connecting turns part. In the end I kinda gave up on it and just zigzagged down the slope, hoping to get down safely. These girls are doing a great job and you are doing a great job explaining. Thank you, now I can't wait to get back on the board and start all over again (and hopefully succeed this time).

I learnt to board in a real haphazard way, and learnt my linking after my first week boarding, so had no idea where to start teaching my son. We did 2 hrs up at Lecht this weekend, and managed to get as far as toe edge "falling leaf". It's also helped me understand what to do riding switch, which has been a real game changer.

I used to think that snowboarding is impossible with a lot of falls, but you have shown that snowboarding is very possible - a slight change in body position - it turns out that snowboarding is all very logical and you don't have to fall!

I am finishing up all your videos before i am heading back to slopes this year and starting from scratch! Great video! I wish I had these tips on my first runs. All my friends were skiers so I just had to translate my skateboarding experience to snowboarding. Which lead to many falls & embarrassing moments before getting the hang of things

i had to do the same and my skateboarding experience is only beginner level 😬 def helped a little bc i kind of knew how i needed to move to control the board but def also fell a LOT

First season for me. I watched and rewinded this video several times before my first snowboard trip, and started going down the greens with S turns consistently by the 2nd day. Thank you for teaching the fundamentals so clearly and beautifully. The one connection

Wish I'd seen this before my first time snowboarding! Watched quite a few other videos but none were as informative as this one. I've gotten better over the last few times but still obviously missing some important fundamentals. Learned so much watching this and now I'm excited to try them out in my next snowboarding run. Seriously amazing video. Been riding for quite a while now and even taught some friends but you're giving so much more insight here. When you just "know" what you're doing and try to explain it, you tend to leave out a lot of the technical stuff. But your detailed explaination really helps understanding the physics behind it. Seeing your approach makes me want to teach more :D. Keep up the great work on the channel. Really glad you popped up in my recommended videos :D

This is a fantastic video. I’m a ski instructor who snowboards but it’s so long since I learnt that I don’t really remember snowboard lessons. After watching this feel much better prepared to help my nephew learn the basics on his holiday next week (he’ll be doing some lessons with an instructor as well)

Hi Malcolm, thank you for your video. I am a beginner only been snowboarding for 6 months. However, I am watching this video and able to teach a beginner snowboarder from first time to Falling Leaf in 8 hours. This is so amazing for the result at the end of the day. Thank you so so much for this video. I've tried skiing two times and last time i developed sole sort of trauma, it was horrible . I'm a natural water person and a teacher too and at 40 i did not think i could manage , i changed to snowboard due to the more flexible boots to help me feel and connect to the activity and its hard ... i spend a few hours today reconnecting to the entire experience and i started to be frustrated ; its not a natural activity for me at all, I'm more seal style :D sliding in my belly kind of thing ;but after searching a fair bit i found your video and i will follow step by step. I like the way you explain how we should be feeling in terms of movement etc... thank you :D

Went snowboarding for the first time yesterday and had no idea how to control my j turns. My bf couldn't explain it very well since he's never taught anyone so this helps to much! Now I can actually teach myself! Will go again next weekend and give it another go :)

I used this to teach myself while on holiday in Japan and after a few hours I was going down green slopes and turning, and my the end of the day I was doing long runs. Thanks so much for this it was amazing help

If only I had a teacher like Malcolm 23 years ago when I started with snowboarding. It almost hurts to remember all the things I was trying to learn on my own and doing it totally wrong. And it took me literarly decades to get rid of some bad habits I learned back then and even nowdays I’m pretty sure I still need to erase some more. Of corse, those were “good old days” without RU-vid tutorials, and such a structured way of teaching was probably non-existent at the time, but even now you can tell how good of an instructor Malcolm is when his Students are progressing like that. Pretty cool!
