Everything about SEAM ALLOWNCES - • I ditched the standard...
In this video tutorial, my dear Sewing Friends, I would like to share with 5 alternative ways of finishing your seams without a serger or overlocker. There are many other seam finishes out there, but these are my favorite - you won't find pinking seam allowances on this list, he he. You know that I truly suggest to you and for you what I believe in myself and this list is no exception. Each seam finish has a particular use and application. I hope this helps and provides you inspiration and information for new sewing adventures!

Wow. I thought I knew every finishing tip. Did not know the last two. The mock French finish I never heard about it and the last one I’ve seen a million times on men shirts but had no idea how it was done. Never underestimate what you can learn even when you think you know it all. You are the best. And by the way, when I hear your voice it reminds me that miracles happen (your story touched my heart). Be safe and thanks!

You're so sweet, thank you for such a wonderful comment! The mock French seam is great, but only if the fabric presses well :) otherwise it is hard to get it to fold over! These are the 5 that I like, there are many more, but I am not a fan of some of them. Have a wonderful weekend!

I have been a long time sewer for many years but stopped when I got quite sick. My partner bought me a brand new sewing machine for Christmas & it does everything I need. But I needed to get my knowledge back up to scratch again. So thank you so much for giving me the confidence to start again. 🥰🇦🇺

This video saved my bacon! I just tried a faux French seam on a car seat cover I made from a double layer of heavy canvas- so 4 layers of heavy canvas in the curvy seams. It worked terrific!! I trimmed the inner layers to half-width then wrapped each outer layer over each inner layer toward the center then sewing those folded outer layers together as in a faux French seam.

I love how clear and precise all of your how to information is. I once took a sewing class, and our instructor told us to encase seams in this lacy tape/ribbon that was so scratchy! I appreciate that you discuss options and how they are typically applied. No judgement is we find that we have a preference, etc. Your videos are a joy to watch and highly inspirational. Thank you!

Your pattern drafting videos and encouragement of test garments gave me the confidence to make a draft and sew a nice double layer canvas car seat cover by myself. Yay! Thank you SO much❣️

I really thought I should get a serger, but I can just do the zigzag first. It may take a bit longer but I can't justify spending money on a serger right now. Thank you for these wonderful tips.

Woo hoo!!! I’m definitely going to make use of the sample sheets. That’s going to be so helpful. 👍👍😊 my favorite is French seams. Although, I used to hate bias binding but after following along with your dress a girl around the world video , I like doing them now. Your technique works like a charm. 🥰

I never knew I was supposed to zigzag at the edge of the fabric. What little sewing I'd done, my seams always looked a mess. Now they are nice and tidy! Thank you Alisa! Isn't it amazing how a small detail like that can make such a difference? And thank you for understanding we all don't have sergers!
@noemimariazaica8245

Not all the time! If you have a fraying and thin fabric , zig zagging the edge can chew the material up , or leave it messy.

I love your videos! This one is so incredibly helpful to me as I am a beginner! I have a question about bias tape seams, can you put both of the raw edges in the same bias tape? For example, sew the two together, press flat with like the bulk on the left and the raw edges on the right and then bias tape to the raw edges?

Which of these would be best to use for knits?
@ThoughtfulCreativity
@ThoughtfulCreativity 2 года назад
None, you don't finish the edges of the knit fabrics as they don't fray. You sew knit fabric with a stretch stitch on a sewing machine or over locker/serger to preserve elasticity

You are in charge of captions, I don't set them. Just change them back to English in your settings.
